Focus on smart systems in electricity distribution SALALAH — The Sultanate will host for the first time the 3rd Conference on Electrical Power Distribution under the theme ‘Smart Systems in Electricity Distribution Service Sector’ on August 28 in Salalah. The two-day conference is organised by the Public Authority for Electricity and Water (PAEW) in co-operation with the Arab Union of Electricity. The opening ceremony will be presided over by Sayyid Mohammed bin Sultan al Busaidy, Minister of State and Governor of Dhofar. Oman’s participation at the expo will conclude tomorrow, but the expo’s declaration will be made today. Investors are being very cautious and asset prices are going down, so it is more challenging. "The challenges are in identifying the quality of asset, asset price risk, rate of return risk, displaced commercial risk and equity investment risk." Nevertheless, the bank’s exposure for Islamic banks typically takes the form of a profit sharing contract; whereby the Islamic bank puts its own money at risk in the form, effectively, of an equity stake. The bank’s exposure depends on both the skill and honesty of its partner. “This potent mix of high risk and moral hazard is an area which needs greater scrutiny, in fact. As the real estate assets which banks are financing continue to be owned by their clients, much Islamic bank exposure to real estate risk may not appear on the sector’s balance sheets," Philip said. The authority offers support to the artisans in terms of training and promotional facilities. The ROP, in a report released recently, said that, besides injury risks, firecrackers cause noise pollution. The ROP warns parents against lenience with their children who play with firecrackers because they can easily spoil the sight or cause body injuries, while at the same time disturbing the neighbours.
