Exposure Program <strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>Test</str<strong>on</strong>g> Facilities<br />
Every year, CPRI c<strong>on</strong>ducts a <strong>on</strong>e-week exposure program <strong>on</strong> test facilities for power utilities. This year, the week-l<strong>on</strong>g event was c<strong>on</strong>ducted from 3 September 2012<br />
to 7 September 2012 <strong>on</strong> test facilities at CPRI, specifically for state and central power utilities. Lectures were delivered by senior officers who have a vast experience<br />
<strong>in</strong> their field of work. Laboratory visits were organized every afterno<strong>on</strong> for delegates to get first-hand <strong>in</strong>formati<strong>on</strong> about the facilities and the need for test<strong>in</strong>g and<br />
certificati<strong>on</strong> of equipment. Lecture notes and presentati<strong>on</strong>s were also produced as proceed<strong>in</strong>gs of the program. Fifty <strong>on</strong>e eng<strong>in</strong>eers from organizati<strong>on</strong>s such as<br />
HPPTCL, MSPGCL, MSEDCL, MPPGL, KPCL, RRVPNL, JDS, BEST, EDTCK, IPGCL, EDGKP, APGENCO and RRVPNL attended and appreciated the exposure program.<br />
Certificates were distributed to all the participants at the valedictory sessi<strong>on</strong>, which was <strong>on</strong> 7 September 2012.<br />
Residential Tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g Program for WBSEDCL Eng<strong>in</strong>eers<br />
The tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g divisi<strong>on</strong> of CPRI, Bangalore organized a four-week<br />
residential tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g program <strong>on</strong> Vibrati<strong>on</strong> Aspects of Transmissi<strong>on</strong> L<strong>in</strong>e<br />
and Its Comp<strong>on</strong>ents for 21 WBSEDCL eng<strong>in</strong>eers at CCAR, Bangalore<br />
from 23 August 2012 to 20 September 2012.<br />

Workshop <strong>on</strong> Reactive Power Compensati<strong>on</strong> <strong>in</strong> Power Transmissi<strong>on</strong> and Distributi<strong>on</strong> Systems<br />
The Power Systems Divisi<strong>on</strong> organized a two-day workshop <strong>on</strong> Reactive Power Compensati<strong>on</strong> <strong>in</strong> Power Transmissi<strong>on</strong> and Distributi<strong>on</strong> Systems at CPRI,<br />
Bangalore from 13 September 2012 to 14 September 2012. The workshop was coord<strong>in</strong>ated by Mrs J Sreedevi and Mrs K S Meera.<br />
Participants of the workshop <strong>in</strong>cluded eng<strong>in</strong>eers from Assam Electricity Grid Corporati<strong>on</strong> Limited, Maharashtra State Electricity Distributi<strong>on</strong> Co. Ltd, Rural<br />
Electrificati<strong>on</strong> Corporati<strong>on</strong> Ltd, Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd and Orissa Power Transmissi<strong>on</strong> Corporati<strong>on</strong> Ltd; faculty from Bangalore Institute of Technology and<br />
VNIT – Nagpur and research scholars from Governement College of Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g - Kannur.<br />
Topics related to reactive power such as pr<strong>in</strong>ciples and importance of reactive power <strong>in</strong> power systems, fixed and dynamic reactive power compensati<strong>on</strong>,<br />
reactive power plann<strong>in</strong>g, voltage stability and its analysis, harm<strong>on</strong>ic filters, development of FACTS devices, etc. were discussed <strong>in</strong> detail dur<strong>in</strong>g the two-day<br />
workshop. Practical examples such as capacitor compensati<strong>on</strong> for the North-Indian regi<strong>on</strong> was discussed. Applicati<strong>on</strong> and work<strong>in</strong>g of FACTS devices for electric<br />
arc furnaces and w<strong>in</strong>d farm applicati<strong>on</strong>s was dem<strong>on</strong>strated to the participants <strong>on</strong> the real-time digital simulator.<br />
