Nipping Presses
NH/DNH-80

SIGLOCH Nipping Presses NH/DNH-80
– perfect shaping of the book block spine
The Sigloch nipping presses NH for single line and DNH-80 for double
line are used to ensure optimum book block finishing.
Nipping pressure applied to the joint of the thread-sewn book block after
gluing and lining corrects the incline of the spine in the joint area to produce
a right-angled block spine.
The book blocks are transported into the nipping presses in an upright
position on their spines; the pressing process is executed with the product
at a standstill. Integrated pre-pressing jaws prevent displacement of
individual signatures within the block and deformation of the block spine.
The DNH-80 is primarily used downstream of the SIGLOCH TF/TFD drying
conveyors. The DNH-80 can be directly connected to the double line TFD
drying conveyor. In the case of the TF single conveyor line, it is necessary to
link the TW dividing switch between the TF drying conveyor and
the DNH-80 nipping press.
NH/DNH-80 Innovations
Motorized adjustment of the pressing jaws
Electronically controlled setting of the pressing time
Integrated protective cladding with wide opening, pneumatic spring assisted,
large protective hoods to ensure optimum accessibility
Increased efficiency and shorter change-over times due to data exchange
via Ethernet with other machines of the inline book production line
Intuitive operator guidance via graphical touch screen display
Ergonomic design
In this way, the NH and DNH-80 ensure perfect results for subsequent threeknife
trimming and absolute edge precision of the finished book.
The adjustment values can be set automatically via Ethernet or touch screen.
In inline mode or as an offline solution, the Sigloch nipping presses NH
and DNH-80 offer universal solutions for the processing of thread-sewn
book blocks.

Performance Profile
The book blocks are transported and pressed
standing on their spines – this guarantees uniform,
right-angled and precisely shaped book blocks
Motorized adjustment of the toggle lever mechanics
to the block thickness
Pre-pressing jaws fix the block and prevent
displacement of the individual signatures and
deformation during pressing
Can be used as a flexible free-standing machine or as an
efficient component in a book block production line
Infinitely variable pressing times
Short change-over times
Technology & Function
Depending on the version – NH for single line or DNH-80 for double line –
the book blocks are fed directly or via TW dividing switch from the drying
conveyor into the nipping press.
The book blocks are pressed in the NH/DNH-80 at a standstill. This
ensures right-angled book spines without creases which is particularly
important for thicker book blocks.
The PLC control system ensures that the book block is centrally positioned
between the pressing jaws and that the pressing stroke is triggered at the
same time.
The book block is fixed by pre-pressing jaws above the joint to
prevent displacement of individual signatures within the book block
(see diagrams 1 to 3).
In conjunction with the toggle lever mechanics, the pneumatic cylinders
produce a pressing force of 12 t that is transferred via connecting rods to
the pressing jaws. The pressing time is infinitely variable. In the case
of using DNH-80 it can be adjusted separately for each pressing station.
After pressing, the book blocks are laid down by a block tilting station
and fed to the downstream machine for further processing.
