The Palast der Republik<br />
is back: The temporary<br />
Kunsthalle<br />
on the <strong>Berlin</strong>er<br />
Schloßplatz received<br />
a photo skin with an<br />
image of the palace in<br />
black & white –<br />
“Echo” is the title of<br />
this installation with<br />
an alienation defamiliarziation<br />
effect by<br />
the artist Bettina Pousttchi.<br />
Note the<br />
clock which replaces<br />
the GDR emblem.<br />
The Palast der Republik<br />
is gone (note<br />
the remaining foundations<br />
on the<br />
left); instead we now<br />
not only have a new<br />
lawn to hang out on<br />
but also a new Wall<br />
to prevent us from<br />
falling into the<br />
Spree. When exactly<br />
the facade of the<br />
<strong>Berlin</strong>er Stadtschloß<br />
for the planned Humboldt-Forum<br />
will be<br />
rebuilt is unclear. By<br />
the way, the <strong>Berlin</strong>er<br />
Fernsehturm turns<br />
40 this year!
