The EGL Mer Plus TM Electrode and RF Unit combination makes processing neon tubes safe, 

easy and efficient. Mer Plus TM Electrodes are special designed mercury capsules that are 

positioned and angled for easy release of mercury past the ceramic collar. Each electrode is 

engineered to withstand bombarding temperatures and reduce the risk of mercury contamination

Signmate TM tubing is single-coated with proprietary phosphors to produce the world’s 

most popular whites and colors. It is the finest phosphors, proprietary adhesives, 

and special additives that combine to provide unmatched brilliance and consistency 

without flaking. All tubing is individually straightened, fire-polished, washed, and 

dried, using EGL’s special Sani-Dry process to eliminate residue contamination. 

It is then coated, baked, and annealed, reducing glass stress and strain.

proprietary phosphors, the pre-staining step resulting in added color vividness and

Cold Cathode Tubing 

EGL’s Cold Cathode refers to luminous tubing which is larger than 15mm in 

diameter and operates on a minimum current of 60 milliamps. This larger diameter 

tubing is often used for interior cove and accent lighting. Each tube is coated using 

the same quality coating techniques as is used on our small diameter tubing and

Double-Coated Tubing 

Voltarc provides the richest, deepest shades obtainable. The color is created by first coating 

the inside of the clear lead glass tubing with a pigment which gives the tubing a base color. 

A second coat of phosphor provides the luminescence. It is best used for borders and 

sweeping curves where the brilliance of the color can create an attention getting and 

dynamic contrast with other sign elements.

Precision ® II Manifold 

The Precision II Manifold is constructed of 28mm borosilicate tubing with a 20mm 

main stopcock. This high volume manifold provides extremely fast pumping speed 

and outstanding ultimate vacuum capability. The Precision II can be utilized as either 

a single sided or as a double sided system. With the double sided system, the operator 

increases productivity by alternating two units at a time from one side of the manifold 

to the other. The Precision II manifold can be outfitted with a U-Gauge Manometer 

or 0-40 Torr Gauge and/or for use with metal canisters or gas flasks.

Product Description 

0-40 Torr Capsule Fill Gauge – Easy-to-read analog gauge. 

Provides the operator continuous pressure readings during 

bombarding and gas filling. The Torr Gauge can be used with 

any Precision Manifold or retrofitted to any other type of manifold. 

U-Gauge Manometer – Used to monitor tube pressure during 

bombarding and is the most accurate method of measuring the gas 

fill pressure in each tube. The oil-filled U-Gauge can be used with 

any Precision Manifold or retrofitted to any other type of manifold. 

Vacuum Gauge Stopcock – Isolates the vacuum gauge 

while bombarding. Also protects the gauge tube from influx 

of contaminants. Accepts standard 1/8 NPT gauge tubes.

Gas Bottle Stopcocks – Meters the gas from glass flasks. 

0-40 Torr 

Capsule 

Gas Transfer System – Meters the gas from metal canisters. Can 

be used with any Precision Manifold or adapted to other manifolds. 

Gas Bottle Breaker Bars – Used for breaking the seal on glass 

flasks. Glass enclosed breaker bars eliminate the metal outgassing 

and contaminating the rare gas bottle. 

“O” Ring Lubricant – Specially formulated to allow the “O” rings on 

the stopcocks to slide more easily in the glass barrels. (Not recommended 

for the compression fittings or stopcock tip “O” rings.)

MAXI-VAC Manifold 

The MAXI-VAC manifold virtually eliminates the leakage, breakage, contamination, 

and downtime common to older systems by eliminating the components that cause it. 

Gone forever are the greasetype stopcocks, numerous connections, and maze of fragile 

glass tubing which result in wasted repair time. Short lengths of heavy wall 50mm diameter 

borosilicate tubing are welded in a compact configuration to remove strain. The result is 

an extremely strong assembly that provides the highest possible flow rates, maximum 

vacuum integrity, minimal gas waste, and the easiest interior access for cleaning.

Transco is well-known for providing high-quality, direct-drive oil-bath vane pumps. All are twostage 

rotary vane pumps with an oil bath seal. These high vacuum pumps are suitable for 

pumping neutral gases common in neon production. All of the materials have been selected 

so as to have a long life and be resistant to high temperatures. 

Thanks to the high capacity “gas ballast” device, condensable vapors can be pumped. All 

pumps are equipped with a special electronic relief valve. This avoids pressure rise or oil 

-flow-back in the system under vacuum while air is allowed to re-enter the pump chambers. 

A transparent window makes it easy to check the oil level in the casing.

Chokemaster Variac Choke 

The Chokemaster Variac Choke is a DC reactance choke controlled by a 10 amp 

variac. The Chokemaster provides precise control of the bombarding current by 

simply turning the dial on the variac to the desired level. It controls any bombarder

15 KVA are suitable for use with all applications and are generally the recommended choice 

for this reason. 22 KVA models are best suited for large scale, full-time production shops 

processing 15-25mm tubing and using primarily 60-120 milliamp electrodes. The EGL 

model 4600 variable-controlled choke is a DC reactance devise using a dial Variac. 

When used in conjunction with the EGL milliamp gauge (item 733300) the model 4600 will 

provide precise control of bombarding levels combined with ease of operation and reliability.

Precision Vacuum Gauges allow the operator to precisely monitor tube pressure

There are two types of Bombarding Gauges. The Bombarding Milliamp Meter precisely 

monitors the current level throughout the bombarding cycle. The Bombarding 

Temperature Gauge monitors the glass temperature during bombarding and

Ribbon Burners 

EGL’s Ribbon burners are utilized for creating sweeping curve effects and script-type 

lettering for neon signs. It features a brass burner bar to eliminate warping and side 

ignition, and an improved economizer valve with O-ring seals to eliminate leakage. 

All models are equipped with a control slide to adjust flame length. The cast aluminum 

body rotates 360° on a collar flange which can be bolted on a workbench, or threaded 

onto an available pipe stand with a 17-pound weighted base plate.

Prewire Units 

The Prewire Unit makes installation of the bombarding equipment easy, efficient, 

and safe. It prevents accidental activation of the bombarder by acting as a disconnect 

switch for the incoming electricity. The power is turned off immediately when the switch 

is released. The Prewire Unit includes the magnetic contactor and your choice of a 

thumb switch or a foot switch.
