Division of <strong>Constituent</strong> Affairs<br />
<strong>The</strong> Division of <strong>Constituent</strong> Affairs consists of five ward liaisons that are responsible for<br />
fostering an on-going relationship between constituents and the Mayor’s <strong>Of</strong>fice. <strong>The</strong> Division<br />
serves as a resource to aid residents with navigating through city, county, state, and federal<br />
services effectively. Moreover, this Division serves as the primary headquarters for those<br />
constituent services available directly from the Mayor’s office, including the Mayor’s Open<br />
<strong>Of</strong>fice Hours program.<br />
Ward Liaisons – South, Central, East, North, and West<br />
Build and maintain rapport with community leaders, activities, groups, businesses, etc…<br />
Attend community meetings within respective ward and/or relevant city wide, county wide,<br />
and/or state wide meetings<br />
Complete random assessments within assigned areas: sanitation, code enforcement, etc…<br />
Organize and lead community based focus groups, which are responsible for hosting community<br />
outreach fairs and making recommendations to the Mayor regarding ward improvements and<br />
quality of life issues<br />
Supervise community canvassing task force within respective ward.<br />
Represent the Mayor/Director in his absence<br />
Administrative Assistant/Intern Staff<br />
Intake and route office calls accordingly<br />
Manage constituent grievances address to the Mayor<br />

Form, 2) examples of the different forms of acclamation available from the Mayor, and 3)<br />
guidelines for the different acclamations.<br />
Please be advised that all proclamation/commendation requests are to be made using the<br />
attached form. Accompanying the attached form should be a draft of the<br />
Proclamation or Letter of Commendation (Electronic MICROSOFT WORD version<br />
required) containing all relevant information. Please use the attached templates as a<br />
guide in this regard. (Attaching the following is preferred: personal biographies, business,<br />
and/or group, profiles)<br />
All requests must be received within 10 days of the date that the proclamation/<br />
commendation is required. Last minute requests are not guaranteed.<br />
Funding from the Mayor’s <strong>Of</strong>fice<br />
All funding requests must be made, in writing, addressed to Mayor Cory Booker, 920<br />
Broad Street, Room 200, 07102 or by emailing a formal request to Henrique Ferreira at<br />
ferreirah@ci.newark.nj.us.<br />
A status notification will be sent within 7-10 business days from the date in which the<br />
funding request was received by Mayor’s <strong>Of</strong>fice.<br />
Approved funding request will be handled in a relatively timely manner. We request that<br />
you pay for the event from your organization’s budget and we will make a retroactive<br />
contribution to you in an amount not to exceed the allotted amount.<br />
Organizations, individuals, and establishments are limited to two donations within a<br />
fiscal year (July1st of current year to June 30 th of following year). Organizations,<br />
individuals, and establishments receiving funding from the city during the current fiscal<br />
cycle will not be approved for funding.<br />
Donations from the Mayor’s office are not obligatory and approvals are discretionary based on<br />
available funds. Any additional sources of funding may be factored during the consideration<br />
process.<br />
<strong>Constituent</strong>s are encouraged to seek funding from their <strong><strong>New</strong>ark</strong> Municipal Council members, as<br />
well as any other outside funding sources that may be available.<br />

Community Covenant (SNCC) initiative seeks to increase meaningful and consistent citizen<br />
participation and collaboration.<br />
A Super Neighborhood is a geographically designated area where homeowners, tenant<br />
associations, civic organizations, non-profits, educational institutions and businesses work<br />
together to identify, plan, and set priorities to address common needs and concerns.<br />
Currently there are ten Super Neighborhoods: Forest Hill (North Ward), Ironbound (East Ward),<br />
Lincoln Park, Springfield/Belmont (Central Ward), Weequahic Park (South Ward), Clinton Hill,<br />
Fairmount, Lower Roseville, University Heights, and West Side Park.<br />

<strong><strong>New</strong>ark</strong> Now's mission is to equip and empower <strong><strong>New</strong>ark</strong> residents with the tools<br />
and resources needed to transform their communities through neighborhood-based<br />
associations and tenant organizations.<br />
<strong><strong>New</strong>ark</strong> Now has begun the operation of neighborhood-based Family Success Centers<br />
that are able to provide convenient and coordinated access to information and<br />
resources that families need to be successful. <strong>The</strong> Family Success Centers provide a<br />
range of governmental and non-governmental services to promote safety, well-being<br />
and self-sufficiency for families who voluntarily request assistance. <strong>The</strong> Centers are<br />
staffed by members of the community and will by community organizers who facilitate<br />
the provision of services and resources such as General Assistance, the Earned<br />
Income Tax Credit, career readiness preparation, Abbott Pre-Schools, parenting and<br />
anti-violence workshops, food stamps, health insurance.<br />
