NOTICE TO ALL MEMBERS
The use of Fairway Mats in winter
The Golf Club Committee have agreed to trial use of fairway mats for the 2011/12 winter
golf season with the aim being to project the golf course from the damage caused by the
excessive divots and to help the Greens Committee present the golf course in a better
condition for the start of the 2012 golf season.
Approved winter fairway mats are deemed to be one of the following sizes:
30cm x 15cm (12" x 6")
45cm x 15cm (18" x 6")
Examples of these mats can be seen below.
These fairway mats must be used throughout the winter golf season and can be used in one
of the following circumstances depending on your own personal preference:
Anywhere on the golf course at all times (Except the Greens & Bunkers)
Anywhere on the golf course at all times (Except the Greens & Bunkers and after the
Green Posts at the end of the Fairway, where a ball can be played off the Grass)
Following tests of various fairways mats by the greens chairman, we have opted to
recommend the Multi-Mat version to members and visitors (See Picture 1 below) due to
their versatility, durability and lower cost than the other fairway mats available.
We appreciate members will have their own preference of fairway mats and providing they
are within the limits of size and boundaries of fairness we are happy to accept the different
versions. Anyone unsure as to the suitability of different fairway mats they wish to use
should seek confirmation from Colin Boyle or myself.
Members are required to Purchase or Hire a fairway mat of their choice and the Multi-Mat
version will be available via Colin Boyle (Ashton GC Professional).
Anyone seen to be playing on the golf course without a fairway mat during the winter
season will be asked to leave the golf course with immediate effect.
Your co-operation in protecting the golf course during the winter season is greatly
appreciated.
Stephen McGee
(Greens Chairman)
