Welcome to Madani High School
Message from the Principal
Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh (Peace and Allah’s mercy and
blessings be on you.)
Welcome to Madani High School and Community Centre. I am delighted that
you are interested in finding out more about the School.
Madani High School and Community Centre is the first purpose-built Islamic
faith secondary school in the country. A combination of Islamic architectural
design and modern building technology has succeeded in producing what many
people would consider to be a ‘world class school’. Equipped with the latest
computer technology and communication infrastructure, the institution has the
capability of delivering the highest quality educational experience for all.
In its first and most challenging year, the School achieved 87% GCSE A*-C
grades making it the highest achieving secondary school in the city of Leicester.
The School will endeavour to maintain, and indeed improve the quality and
standards of education for all our students. The institution is strongly placed
to provide a model example of education with a distinctive Islamic paradigm
congruent with mainstream Muslim experience in British society.
We are a very popular school and have one of the highest waiting lists in the
city. Already the School has attracted a large number of visitors who have come
from all parts of the United Kingdom and abroad. If you would also like to visit
the School then please contact our Reception Staff, who will be happy to make
the arrangements.
With best regards
Mohamed H Mukadam
Principal

Learning at Madani High School
The curriculum at Madani High School is based upon, and incorporates the
principles of the National Curriculum as stated in the Education Reform Act. It
is enriched with aspects of Islamic culture. All students experience 30 teaching
lessons per week, each lesson lasting for 50 minutes. They also attend a form
lesson and daily acts of collective worship. Students study the following subjects
at Key Stage 3:
• Religious Education
• Citizenship
• English
• Geography
• History
• ICT
• Mathematics
• Modern Foreign Languages (Including Arabic)
• Music
• Physical Education
• Science
• Technology
• Art & Craft
• Life Skills (PSHE)
At Key Stage 4 all students study core subjects and a range of foundation
subjects to GCSE level. All students will take part in Careers Education and
complete a work experience placement.
Being a newly established school, we are currently exploring the possibilities
to expand the curriculum options through partnerships with other schools and
colleges. Vocational courses and Diplomas are being considered as part of the
School’s future educational provision.
Religious Education
All students at Madani High School will study Religious Education and they will
be entered for GCSE Religious Education exam at the end of Year 11.
The National Curriculum requires that Sex Education be taught to students.
It is included within subjects of the curriculum where appropriate and made
available to all students irrespective of gender. As a Muslim school, we promote
the Islamic concept of family life and moral values.

4
Tarbiyah Programme
The School has developed a Tarbiyah programme based on the ninety nine
beautiful names of Allah to develop Islamic morals and manners in all its
students and staff. Each week one of the 99 beautiful names of Allah is chosen
and studied in a way that helps students to fulfil their roles and responsibilities
in accordance with the noble ways of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace
be upon him). The programme focuses on the following five areas:
• Worshipping God
• Understanding myself
• Duties and responsibilities towards my family
• Knowing my community (Community Cohesion)
• Caring for my environment
Home School Agreement
Each student at Madani High School is issued with a Home-School Agreement
which creates an understanding of the role and responsibilities of each party: the
student, the school and the parent/carer in achieving the educational success of
each individual at Madani High School.
Homework at Madani High School
The purpose of setting homework at Madani High School is to:
• Encourage students to develop the confidence and self-discipline
to work on their own: an essential skill for adult life
• Consolidate and reinforce skills and understanding
• Extend school learning, for example through additional reading
• Enable students to devote time to particular demands such as
GCSE coursework or project work
• Support the home-school relationship
All students are provided with a school planner in which they are expected
to record their homework. This is signed weekly by parents and form tutors
so that any problems can be identified and students offered support and
guidance.
Parents Evening/Reports
The School provides regular student reports and holds parents’ evenings
throughout the academic year. Parents and students are informed of dates for
parents’ evenings when teaching staff are available for consultation.
If there are matters of concern, the School can be contacted to discuss these at
any time during the academic year.

Every Child Matters
‘Change for Children’ is a new approach to the well-being of children and young
people from birth to age 19. The Government’s aim is for every child, whatever
their background or circumstances, to have the support they need to:
• Be healthy
• Stay safe
• Enjoy and achieve
• Make a positive contribution
• Achieve economic well-being
Madani High School takes a whole-school approach in incorporating the
government initiative of ‘Every Child Matters’ and ensures that each area is
addressed through various programmes such as:
• The full subjects of the national curriculum
• Life Skills/PSHE
• Citizenship
• Healthy schools
• Careers and guidance
• Extended schools services
• Recognition and rewarding of achievements
Facilities & Resources
ICT
Madani High School is taking a lead role in E-learning. All teaching rooms are equipped with Promethean
interactive whiteboards and each desk is fitted with a laptop to enhance student learning to create a
personalised learning environment.
Physical Education
Madani High School is fortunate to have a multipurpose and well equipped Sports Hall that can provide
a wide range of sports. The Sports Hall facilitates two indoor cricket nets, four badminton courts, one
volleyball court and a full size basketball court.
There are two designated outdoor areas that cater for 5-a-side football with a rubber crumb surface and a
netball court that can also be used as a tennis court.
Prayer Hall
Decorated with the 99 names of Allah, the School Prayer Hall offers facilities of collective worship (salah)
for both boys and girls in separate areas at dedicated salah times. The hall is also used for assemblies
and religious events.
Library
The Library is situated at the heart of the School. This is an advanced research and reading facility with
an excellent range of books, newspapers, magazines and careers material including Islamic literature.
Computers with printers are available with Multimedia and Internet access allowing students to carry out
independent research.
Extended Schools Services
Madani High School is keen to develop a range of extended schools programmes that will help raise
student achievement, support families and build the local community. The extended schools programme is
part of a national initiative which is aimed at raising standards for students through a range of activities.
The School works in partnership with other local schools and services to develop a range of activities beyond
the school day to help meet the needs of its students, their families and the wider community. We consult
with parents and the local community to deliver a programme that meets local needs. The School regularly
informs parents and the wider community of the availability of the school facilities for future activities.

Careers Education and Guidance
The careers education and guidance programme at Madani High School
prepares young people to make well informed, realistic career decisions not
only in education, but also in employment and training. In Years 7, 8 and 9
students receive careers education through PSHE and Citizenship.
Students are introduced to KUDOS, a computer based careers education
programme in Year 9 which they follow up during Key Stage 4. This is designed
to help students think about their future career and jobs by encouraging them to
assess their own abilities, needs and interests realistically and by giving them
ideas and information about jobs.
Work Experience
LEICESTERSHIRE
All Year 10 students have the opportunity of two week’s work experience, where
they get an insight into the world of employment.
Students in Year 10 and 11 have the opportunity of interviews with the local
Connexions Service, who provide individual impartial advice based on student
interests and needs. Guidance covers not only opportunities in local employment
and training, but also in further education in various colleges across Leicester.
Year 11 students have lessons showing them how to complete application forms,
write letters and conduct interviews which provide them with the confidence for
college life and work interviews.
Student Expectations
Attendance and Punctuality
Madani High School is committed to ensuring that students are educated to a
high standard. In order to achieve this, student attendance and punctuality are
seen as key factors to achievement. A system of rewards and sanctions are in
place to encourage good attendance.
The School considers punctuality as an essential part of the Tarbiyah programme
and a vital component of the School’s drive to improve standards of achievement.
Parents have a joint responsibility with their child to ensure that he/she arrives
to school on time and attends all of his/her lessons.
The School’s Attendance Policy is in line with DCSF requirements and is
available on the School’s website and upon request from the School.
Attendance Data
As a new school, attendance data is only available for the first year of operation
i.e. 2007/2008. This data is as follows:
Attendance 92.2%
Authorised Absences 7.3%
Unauthorised Absences 0.5%
Student Behaviour
There is a whole school approach to promoting good behaviour which is driven
by core principles expressed in the mission statement. Students are encouraged
to adopt and develop Islamic etiquette, manners and morals.
With this in mind, the School recognises and rewards both academic achievement
and good behaviour of students through its reward system.
We aim for our staff to be confident and skilled in their handling of inappropriate
and disruptive behaviour. Where students need to be disciplined for such
behaviour they will be treated fairly and without discrimination in line with the
School’s Behaviour Policy. In addition, the School will take proactive steps to
prevent exclusion.
The School prides itself on being a listening school and aims to work with
parents/carers to ensure the best possible learning environment for their child.

Learning Support & Inclusion
At Madani High School, we are committed to developing an inclusive curriculum to ensure the best possible
progress for all of our students whatever their needs or abilities. Not all students with disabilities have
Special Educational Needs (SEN) and not all students with SEN meet the definition of disability. The School
is therefore currently in the process of implementing a SEN programme which aims to:
• Identify students with special educational needs and disabilities and ensure that their needs are met
• Ensure that students with special educational needs and disabilities are able to join in with all the
activities of the school
• Ensure that all learners make the best possible progress
• Ensure parents are informed of their child’s special needs and that there is effective communication
between parents and school
• Ensure that learners express their views and are fully involved in decisions which affect their
education
• Promote effective partnership and involve outside agencies where appropriate.
Equal Opportunities
Madani High School is committed to supporting, developing and promoting equality and diversity in all of its
practices and activities and aims to establish an inclusive culture free from discrimination and based upon
the values of dignity, courtesy and respect.
Pastoral Structure
The Form Tutor is a key person who not only takes the attendance register, but is the first point of contact
for many of the issues that affect students. Form Tutors ensure that each individual student receives full
guidance and support to achieve their maximum potential. The Form Tutor’s role is particularly important,
especially at times when students may be facing demands and stress in their life.
The Pastoral Department at Madani High School is committed to ensuring that the emotional health and
wellbeing of young people are well looked after. The department encourages students to express their
feelings, build on their confidence and emotional resilience thus enabling them to learn in an environment
which not only they are comfortable in but also enjoy being part of.
Student Council
At Madani High School, the Student Council aims to help establish and maintain a stimulating atmosphere
to the School, by providing an official voice through which students’ opinions are expressed.
The Student Council plays an important part in the life of the School and discusses issues raised by the
students, as well as oversee charity and social events and support in the development of original, creative
and innovative ideas of every individual in the School.
