HEADMASTER’S END OF TERM LETTER TO PARENTS AND GUARDIANS
TERM 2 2012
1. INTRODUCTION
Greetings to all parents and guardians from your girls school. Term two has been fairly calm though with
its share of challenges. As usual, we acknowledge the support rendered to the school by all stakeholders
through fees payment, material, moral and spiritual uplifting.
2. SCHOOL TONE
The school is thankful to parents and guardians who took their time to preach and teach CORE BUSINESS
to their daughters. A positive attitude towards school work was displayed by many girls. It obviously
takes time to adopt a READING CULTURE – but we are getting somewhere. No time to waste, all girls will
write important exams this year, in particular Forms 2, 4 and 6. The teachers and support staff also
played their part in bringing about this positive change and maintenance of high standards. Our girls
who participated in the National Softball finals in Chinhoyi came fourth and have brought home a shield
for the most disciplined school.
3. COLD
This term has been very cold especially to new comers. For almost a decade, it has never been this cold.
However, the girls struggled in these temperatures. The school made some efforts to provide hot water
in the morning. Some girls ended up taking small blankets to the classrooms, a development we strongly
deplored. However, the school will allow girls to have bottle green fleece during winter. The school only
allows a bottle green jersey which is plain. The season also came with heavy flu and sometimes a cough
but we soldiered on. Parents/guardians with daughters who have tooth, sight and other problems we do
not normally attend to here; should try every means possible to cater for them during the holidays to
limit student movement during school time.
4. SPORT, ARTS AND CULTURE
Many such clubs as the Scripture Union, Interact, Junior Church Council and Library to mention but a few
are committed to school Development Programmes. The Senior and Junior volleyball teams competed
at provincial level, the softball team U20 is another shining example. Our girls have done well in Debate
and Public Speaking. The school has done its best in the Science exhibitions and will proceed to the
Provincial finals at Mutare Museum in September. Our girls are visiting Kariba between 26‐29 July. You
will obviously hear from them after the tour. We wish them a safe journey and an enriching tourist
experience. The school has a new prefects body for 2012‐2013. Congratulations to those who have been
elected into the prefecture and every stakeholder’s support will go a long way towards a successful term
of office.
5. COMPUTERS
The school has engaged Q‐rent company to buy 50 new computers for Computer Studies. It is our wish
that the school runs a functional Computers department in order to move with time/technology. Out
target is to have two vibrant laboratories in order to meet our growing e‐learning needs. However, if
your daughter contacts you by cell phone or Facebook, know for sure that she is breaking a school rule
and should be prepared to face disciplinary action.
6. NATIONAL BLAZE
This is an organisation which deals with training 13‐21 year olds on life skills, leadership, HIV AIDS,
morality, drug/substance abuse and teen age pregnancy in a ‘learn and play’ environment. This is done
in camp and their product was quite appealing to our girls, some whom thought their parents would
allow them such a holiday and learning opportunity. The school is not part of the programme, although
the organisation has promised to invite us should some of our girls be allowed by their parents to go in
camp. Their offices are at No. 2 Trend Road Ashbrittle, Emerald Hill, Harare. Contact 0774 159 246 or
0772 922 959.
7. FEES PAYMENT
A number of parents have paid fees in full. Next term the school will not take students who are in
arrears. If the payment of full fees is a problem, it is important to communicate that status with the
school so that we come up with a payment plan in order to give the student all her time to do CORE
BUSINESS. May parents/guardians also assist by buying literature set books for their daughters if they
are taking that subject at any level, the same applies a Bible for those taking Religious Education or
Divinity and a textbook entitled INFORMATION SYSTEMS FOR YOU by Stephen Doyle for all Form Ones.
‘O’ level Food and Nutrition students also require a recipe book – ECONOMICAL RECIPES by J. M. Combe.
We are in the process of updating our student records and a birth‐certificate is one of the most essential
documents. May you assist by giving your daughter a certified copy of the original birth certificate at
school come. Thank you in advance.
8. VACATION SCHOOL
It is important to know that vacation school is important in preparing all candidates for the forthcoming
examinations but it is not a must. So many institutions are now offering vacation classes and sometimes
it is important to expose our daughters to the revision exercises. Experience has taught us that those
girls who come back to the school for these lessons do better than those who go to other schools for a
number of reasons. If you can afford, please bring your daughter for vacation school. Girls come on
26/08/12 and leave on 07/09/12. Fees are $6 per subject for ‘O’ Level and $12 per subject at ‘A’ level.
Boarding fees are $47‐00, Administration $10‐00. A $5 practical fee will be paid for those doing Science.
Boarding is strictly for girls.
9. REPORTS AND COMMENTS
Please read your daughter’s report with microscopic eyes. You will pick up certain traits about your
daughter from the grades and comments. Check for any possible alterations and feel free to raise the
school if you are in doubt.
10. EXAMINATIONS
Public examinations start on 23/10/12 for ‘O’ level and 29/10/12 for ‘A’ level. We are geared to do the
best in order to maintain our reputation as a flagship school.
11. FORM ONE 2013 INTAKE
Interviews will be on 10/08/12 at 10 am at the school. All requirements have been spelt out on the
forms we distributed to all applicants. If you are coming from far away, travel on 09/08/12 and get
accommodation at the school, but we are not offering bed linen.
12. SPECIAL THANK YOU
Many thanks to our esteemed parents for supporting the school in a big way especially on the payment
of fees. It is that support which keeps us going. The following parents donated to the school this term:
Mr. P. Jindu ‐ 300 kg mealie meal
Mr. Mandirahwe ‐ 4 X 50 kg cement
Mr. Mdombi ‐ 4 X 50 kg cement
Mr. Murerwa ‐ 1 X 20 kg tomatoes
Thank you to all parents for supporting the Hostel Project which is now complete.
13. ST. DAVID’S ALUMNAE
It is the school’s wish to meet the St. David’s Girls High Alumnae on 28/07/12 in order to communicate
with them on developmental issues.
