Independent Learning Centre, Learner Interface, 1993 - 1995
Proposed and designed Learner Interface workshops series in the Independent Learning Centre.
ELT 1107 English Improvement Strategies I and ELT 1108 English Improvement Strategies II, 1994 -
present
Proposed and designed ELT 1107 and ELT 1108, two learner strategy training courses as the
foundation courses for First Year students when all First Year English (FYE) courses were abolished
in 1991. The former course focuses on developing listening and speaking skills while the latter on
reading and writing skills. The main objective of these courses is to develop EAP, English for
academic purposes and at the same time, cultivate life-long language learning. The language practices
used in these courses are designed with an aim to utilize the facilities and resources in the Independent
Learning Centre founded in 1993.
The Compulsory Intensive Programme in Putonghua, Cantonese and English (PCE). The English
Component, 1999 to 2008
Developed and delivered the English Component of the Compulsory Intensive Programme. The
Programme was initiated by the CUHK Registry with an aim to improve the general pronunciation
skills of CUHK students. The programme consists of both lectures and online learning materials.
The Compulsory English Curriculum for First Year CUHK students, 2004
Prepared and drafted the Compulsory English Curriculum which was introduced in 2004.
ELT 1411 English for Pharmacy and ELT 1412 English for Healthcare Professional, 2004
Proposed and designed the two ESP courses for the Departments of Nursing and Pharmacy in the
Medical Faculty under the Compulsory English Programme.
Supplementary English Programme (SEP), 2005
Proposed and designed the Supplementary English Course, a compulsory remedial English course for
First Year CUHK students. The course has since been renamed as Common English Foundation
(CEF).
ELT 2001 English for University Studies, 2005
Proposed and designed ELT 2001 English for University Studies, a pre-sessional English course for all
students under the Early Admission Scheme (EAS).

Wrote and developed teaching and learning materials for the following courses:
ELT 2404 Language Awareness for Teachers 4
An introductory course for literature appreciation designed for students in the Language Education
Programme, English Stream, Faculty of Education.
ELT 2455 Expository Writing
A compulsory writing course designed for all non-JUPEAS students in the Faculties of Arts, Social
Science, Law and Education.
ELT 5501 Postgraduate Presentation Skills and ELT 5502 Postgraduate Thesis Writing
Both postgraduate courses are open for postgraduate students of all levels in all academic disciplines.
