Independent Learning Centre, Learner Interface, 1993 - 1995<br />

Proposed and designed Learner Interface workshops series in the Independent Learning Centre.<br />

ELT 1107 English Improvement Strategies I and ELT 1108 English Improvement Strategies II, 1994 -<br />

present<br />

Proposed and designed ELT 1107 and ELT 1108, two learner strategy training courses as the<br />

foundation courses for First Year students when all First Year English (FYE) courses were abolished<br />

in 1991. <strong>The</strong> former course focuses on developing listening and speaking skills while the latter on<br />

reading and writing skills. <strong>The</strong> main objective <strong>of</strong> these courses is to develop EAP, English for<br />

academic purposes and at the same time, cultivate life-long language learning. <strong>The</strong> language practices<br />

used in these courses are designed with an aim to utilize the facilities and resources in the Independent<br />

Learning Centre founded in 1993.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Compulsory Intensive Programme in Putonghua, Cantonese and English (PCE). <strong>The</strong> English<br />

Component, 1999 to 2008<br />

Developed and delivered the English Component <strong>of</strong> the Compulsory Intensive Programme. <strong>The</strong><br />

Programme was initiated by the CUHK Registry with an aim to improve the general pronunciation<br />

skills <strong>of</strong> CUHK students. <strong>The</strong> programme consists <strong>of</strong> both lectures and online learning materials.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Compulsory English Curriculum for First Year CUHK students, 2004<br />

Prepared and drafted the Compulsory English Curriculum which was introduced in 2004.<br />

ELT 1411 English for Pharmacy and ELT 1412 English for Healthcare Pr<strong>of</strong>essional, 2004<br />

Proposed and designed the two ESP courses for the Departments <strong>of</strong> Nursing and Pharmacy in the<br />

Medical Faculty under the Compulsory English Programme.<br />

Supplementary English Programme (SEP), 2005<br />

Proposed and designed the Supplementary English Course, a compulsory remedial English course for<br />

First Year CUHK students. <strong>The</strong> course has since been renamed as Common English Foundation<br />

(CEF).<br />

ELT 2001 English for <strong>University</strong> Studies, 2005<br />

Proposed and designed ELT 2001 English for <strong>University</strong> Studies, a pre-sessional English course for all<br />

students under the Early Admission Scheme (EAS).<br />

Wrote and developed teaching and learning materials for the following courses:<br />

An introductory course for literature appreciation designed for students in the Language Education<br />

Science, Law and Education.<br />
