Farewell to Bishop Sisk Celebration of an Episcopacy The Diocese gathered at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine on the morning of Saturday, January 5 to join in a service of celebration of the episcopacy of Bishop Mark S. Sisk, who will formally retire as the fifteenth Bishop of New York when Bishop Dietsche is installed as the sixteenth on February 2. Bishop Sisk preached (his sermon is available online by going to www.dioceseny.org > News > Bishop Sisk’s Farewell Sermon) and celebrated the Eucharist. Major Gift of $100,000 Initiates Bishop Sisk Children’s Fund “When Mark was a young priest in Bronxville,” write Irene and Charles Hamm, “we were taken by his modesty, wonderful bride Karen and his dedication to reach out to youth in our parish. These feelings stayed with us as we observed his noble career, and form the basis for establishing this fund. We would hope there exist many people touched by Mark and Karen who would join us in funding this legacy trust in their honor and his career. The fund should help children navigate through an ever more difficult and complex future through education and other support.” The newly formed “Bishop Sisk Fund for the Care of Children,” to which the offering at the January 5 service was dedicated, is also the beneficiary of a generous initial gift of $100,000 made by Christ Church, Bronxville parishioners Irene and Charles Hamm. “We’ve been extraordinarily blessed,” said Bishop Sisk, “to receive Irene and Charles Hamm’s gift, which will not only give the new fund a solid basis on which to raise additional funds—to, I hope, a level of at least $250,000—but also by doing so to make a real difference in the lives of children in our diocese.” ADD YOUR GIFT TO THE FUND Mr. & Mrs. Hamm’s gift to the new fund was conditional on only three things: that the fund be named after Bishop Sisk; that it be designated for domestic use only; and that their gift be used “as an encouragement to raise more.” Please join the Hamms in making a gift of whatever you can afford to the fund, either online at http:/episcopalny.org/mschildren or by sending a check marked “Children’s Fund” to: Episcopal Diocese of New York 1047 Amsterdam Ave New York NY 10025 “Work with children has always been of foremost importance to me.
