Executive/Leadership Experience:<br />

Associate Vice President, Institutional Advancement & Auxiliaries, College <strong>of</strong> Eastern <strong>Utah</strong><br />

Responsible for all auxiliary operations at the College <strong>of</strong> Eastern <strong>Utah</strong>, which include Housing,<br />

Dining Services, Bookstore, Athletic Department, Athletic Center and Summer Camps and<br />

Conferences. February 1999 – November 2008.<br />

Founder, President and C.E.O. <strong>of</strong> Fillmore Industrial Cooperative, Inc.<br />

Working jointly with Fillmore City, <strong>Utah</strong>, I raised $975,000 to establish this business (a combination<br />

<strong>of</strong> grants and loans from the U.S. Dept. Of Housing and Urban Development, the U.S. Forest<br />

Service, the Small <strong>Business</strong> Administration and the <strong>Utah</strong> <strong>State</strong> Dept. <strong>of</strong> Community and Economic<br />

Development). I personally prepared all grant and loan applications along with supporting business<br />

plans, budgets and forecasts. I acquired and renovated a building on Main Street, which became the<br />

company headquarters and main production facility. I hired and trained all key employees,<br />

established the accounting system and all business relationships. The business was built from the<br />

ground up for the purpose <strong>of</strong> creating and sustaining quality jobs in the Fillmore area. Employment<br />

from this project reached as high as 50. August 1994 - January 1999.<br />

Founder and Owner <strong>of</strong> Environmental Technologies<br />

Environmental Technologies <strong>of</strong>fered a suite <strong>of</strong> product lines addressing environmental issues and<br />

concerns. I operated this company as a sole proprietor, representing several manufacturers <strong>of</strong><br />

associated products. Products included energy conservation technologies, industrial odor control and<br />

air and water purification. August 1991 - July 1994.<br />

Senior Vice President <strong>of</strong> Clyde Digital<br />

Clyde Digital was a leading supplier <strong>of</strong> computer security, training, and user support s<strong>of</strong>tware<br />

products to government and industry. My responsibilities included corporate development activities<br />

and the establishment and management <strong>of</strong> a domestic telesales organization. I created a distributor<br />

network throughout Western Europe and managed all international operations, established a strategic<br />

corporate relationship with Western Union Corporation in the field <strong>of</strong> electronic mail, worked with<br />

UNIX-based prospective strategic partners such as Sun, Informix, Hewlett-Packard, and others. I<br />

directly managed the growth <strong>of</strong> company sales from $2 million in 1987 to $5 million in 1990.<br />

January 1988 - April 1991.<br />

President and C.E.O. <strong>of</strong> Clyde, Inc.<br />

I was responsible for accomplishing the transition from a family owned business to a pr<strong>of</strong>essionally<br />

managed corporation. I negotiated initial venture capital investments, hired key additions to the<br />

management team, and restructured the board <strong>of</strong> directors. I directed an initiative to strengthen the<br />

product line by combining and repackaging separate utility products into comprehensive packages.<br />

We launched projects to create electronic mail and instructional products and introduced budgeting<br />

and financial controls. Annual sales volume doubled vs. previous year. October 1986 - December<br />

1987.<br />

Principal <strong>of</strong> Dan Allen Financial Services<br />

Investment and tax planning for individuals, pr<strong>of</strong>essionals, and business entities. April 1983 - August<br />

1986.<br />

President, A/R Medical Management, Inc.<br />

With a partner, I founded A/R Medical Management, Inc. and served as its president. This company<br />

introduced a hospital billing and accounting system to the hospital community <strong>of</strong> the Northwest.<br />

Within a few years, the company had bypassed the major national companies in number <strong>of</strong> installed<br />

systems in the Washington, Oregon, and Alaska region. This company was ultimately sold to a unit<br />

<strong>of</strong> ARA Services, Inc. I remained involved as Western Regional Manager until 1985. January 1979 -<br />

January 1985.<br />

President, Information Equipment Leasing, Inc.<br />

A $350,000 SBA financing package funded the purchase <strong>of</strong> used IBM word processing equipment.<br />

This equipment was rented or leased to banks, law firms, insurance companies and governmental<br />

agencies. January 1979 - December 1985.<br />

Vice-President, ADP Dealer Services, Inc.<br />

ADP Dealer Services is a data processing firm specializing in computerized services to auto, farm<br />

and truck dealers. Annual sales were approximately $50 million. My responsibilities included<br />

management <strong>of</strong> purchasing, warehousing, distribution, and control for $500,000 in new computer<br />

equipment per month. I also managed various technical and marketing support groups. December<br />

1977 - January 1979.<br />

Vice-President and General Manager, ADP Health Information Systems<br />

This small division <strong>of</strong> ADP provided computerized billing and accounting services to health care<br />

facilities nationally. My responsibilities included the management <strong>of</strong> marketing, operations, research<br />

and development, as well as general administrative functions. March 1976 - December 1977.<br />

General Manager <strong>of</strong> Operations, ADP Health Information Systems<br />

I was responsible for operations, research and development, and product management functions.<br />

January 1975 - March 1976.<br />

Systems Analyst/Programmer, Granite Mill and Fixture Company<br />

I developed a production model which computed cost and price pr<strong>of</strong>iles for 15,000 cabinet<br />

configurations. I also designed and implemented an integrated cost accounting system, including joborder<br />

costing, payroll, backlog scheduling, and other specialized features. January 1973 - September<br />

1974.<br />

Consulting and Community Service:<br />

Vice Chair, Carbon County Travel Bureau<br />

I serve as a member and vice-chair <strong>of</strong> the local travel bureau board. The board meets bimonthly<br />

to promote tourism and economic development in the community. We manage two<br />

tourism funds generated by restaurant and lodging taxes. In this capacity, the board reviews<br />

applications for funding support from groups promoting events that will bring visitors to the<br />

county and support local business activity. September 2003 – Present.<br />

Consultant to Saratoga Springs Development group.<br />

I represented two separate groups promoting the Saratoga Springs Development before the <strong>Utah</strong><br />

County Commission. They had previously failed twice to get plans approved. I succeeded in getting<br />

a special service district approved, which opened the door for development to progress. December<br />

1995 - March 1996.<br />

Special Consultant to the Assistant Secretary <strong>of</strong> Health, Education & Welfare, Bureau <strong>of</strong> Student<br />

Financial Aid (Washington D.C.).<br />

I assisted in the design <strong>of</strong> a management information system used to track loan delinquencies and<br />

other financial data. September 1977 - January 1978.<br />

Data Processing Planning Department, Kemper Insurance Co. Long Grove, Illinois.<br />

Summer internship. I developed a system to document and manage the production and distribution <strong>of</strong><br />

hundreds <strong>of</strong> internal reports. Kemper <strong>of</strong>fered me a full-time job at graduation, but I elected to enroll<br />

in the BYU MBA program instead. June 1972 - August 1972.<br />
