Thank you so much! I have read through the <strong>newsletter</strong>s and did come across some names I recognised. However I could not find<br />
anyone on the “<strong>old</strong> girls” list? I would love to contact Joyce Parsons (nee McDonald) who wrote and read the amazing poem at your<br />
Founder’s Day celebration as she is the “big” sister of Patsy who was my best friend in Primary school.<br />
I will be looking for a photo of myself and will email you soon.<br />

All’s well from my side, just had such a busy holiday feels like I need one.<br />
Just sending you some photos of all us Old Girls at Aliki Divaris (now Edgecomb) wedding! Namely myself, Ilze Pretorius,<br />
Melanie Voigt, Francis Verfuss, Amy Pires, and of course the bride! It was really lovely and we are all going to be missing<br />
Aliks here in Durban.<br />

I am asking whether you, or anyone else you might know of, would be interested in giving up an hour or more (your choice) of your<br />
time each week to become a "Reading Lady" at Northcrest Primary <strong>School</strong> in Durban North. You do not have to have any teaching<br />
skills, just patience and listening to groups of children read and to correct / help etc. as you go along.<br />

Ordained as a Pastor. I continue to work as a consultant within Correctional Centres to bring about change in<br />
the crime statistics in South Africa for betterment!<br />

Just wondering if you would include this in the next <strong>newsletter</strong>?<br />
Peter and I are climbing Kilimanjaro in October for charity! It's my 30th in September and I was thinking<br />
about a fitting way to mark the milestone...so climbing the highest peak in Africa seemed like a good idea :-)<br />
We're raising money for the Marie Keating Foundation, which is a very worthy cause here in Ireland - they<br />
provide information and support for cancer sufferers and their families.<br />

VERONICA MCCALLUM (NEé QUADU ) – CLASS OF 1997
After leaving <strong>Northlands</strong>, I spent 3 years at University of Natal, Howard College campus where I completed a<br />
B.A majoring in History and English. In my 4th year I went to the PMB campus to do a UED. I later did a<br />
B.Ed part-time while teaching. My teaching career began at <strong>Northlands</strong> Girls’ <strong>High</strong> but after 6 months I<br />
transferred to primary school and later to Special Education. I taught at Berea Primary, Clarence Primary,<br />
Hillary Primary and Westville Senior Primary. I taught at two ELSEN <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong>s - South Hills and West<br />
Ridge. I also taught for a year in the UK. The last 20 years of my career were at W.R. and I retired at the end of<br />
2008.<br />
I was always actively involved in the Teachers' Union -NTS, and Apek which has become NAPTOSA.<br />
I married late in life. Roy Paul was an <strong>old</strong> boy of <strong>Northlands</strong> and a retired marine engineer. We had no<br />
children. He died in November 2007. I live alone in a house in Glenwood with three dogs and two cats.<br />
I am spending my retirement being secretary of The Retired Teachers' Association; doing a Bible Study Course<br />
at Musgrave Methodist Church; doing volunteer work at LifeLine; taking part in the activities of The<br />
University of the Third Age, The Writers' Circle and The Live Poets Society. I enjoy reading and the internet. I<br />
have travelled in the UK and Europe and would like to see more of the world before I am too <strong>old</strong>.<br />
