IT’S ACADEMIC
Congratulations to Haberfield P.S. “It’s Academic”
team which has had great success at the Channel
7 studio on Wednesday 20 th July. Five teams of
three students competed against Hebersham and

Croydon in a five game competition. What an
academically challenging experience for the Year 6
students.
GYMNASTICS
Gymnastics has commenced for Kindergarten,
Years 1, 2 & 3 students on Wednesdays or
Thursdays this term in the school hall.
HEALTHY HAROLD LIFE EDUCATION
Healthy Harold Life Education commenced this
week for Kindergarten and Years 1 and 2. There
has been positive feedback from the students.
SCHOOL ATHLETICS CARNIVAL
Our Haberfield School Athletics
Carnival will take place next
Tuesday 26 th July. Students
turning 8 years of age from Year
2 and all students in Years 3, 4,
5 & 6 will participate in running
events and ball games at
Pratten Park, Ashfield. All
parents are welcome. If you are
able to officiate at the carnival please see Ms
Curteis.

IT’S ALL ACADEMIC FOR
HABERFIELD PS!
Team Haberfield
participated in the
Channel 7 children’s
Television program “It’s
Academic” on
Wednesday 20 July.
Our school participated in
a round-robin competition against Croydon and
Hebersham Public Schools who competed against
each other over 5 episodes. All 5 episodes were
recorded on the one day. The school with the
highest combined score over the 5 episodes at the
end of the recording day will progress to the semifinals.
Team Haberfield were well-placed after
winning the first two episodes. To find out which
school will progress to the semi-finals you will have
to tune into the network broadcast beginning
Monday 10 October.
It’s Academic is hosted by Simon Reeve and airs
on the Seven Network at 4pm on weekdays subject
to programming changes. Our team had the
chance to test their general knowledge and win
prizes for themselves and for our school as well as
experiencing a live television studio. Of course in
the end, there can only be one winner and our aim
is for all participants to have fun as well as learn a
little along the way. Channel Seven kindly
chartered our school to and from filming for the day
at no cost. Well done to all of our team members
for the big day. The event was truly a team event
and all involved were a credit to our school!

RHYTHMIC GYMNASTICS SUCCESS
Congratulations to Jacinta L, 5D who represented
NSW in Elite Rhythmic Gymnastics in Perth
during the school holidays. Jacinta finished fourth
overall and NSW were crowned National
Champions!
Jacinta competed across four apparatus: ribbon,
hoop, rope and free hand.
Nazmi Johnston, Gold medal winner at the 2010
Delhi Commonwealth Games, mentored Jacinta
and the team throughout the championships.
Gymnastics is undoubtedly one of the most popular
and entertaining Olympic sports and the national
championships were nothing short of a world-class
competition. Held at Perth’s prestigious Challenge
Stadium, this event brought together some serious
Australian talent including World Championships,
Commonwealth Games and Olympic Games team
members along with the next generation of
hopefuls who pushed the boundaries like never
before.
We wish Jacinta another hearty congratulations on
her fine result!

COMPETITION
Students across NSW can submit works for an
international art exhibition in Nagoya, Japan
The Sister and Friendship City Children's Art and
Calligraphy Exhibition is an annual international art
exhibition in Nagoya, Japan. Artworks from
Nagoya, Sydney, Los Angeles, Mexico City and
Ninjing will be displayed.

Section 1.01 Entry Conditions
Section 1.02 All works submitted for inclusion in
the Nagoya Art Exchange are required to meet the
following requirements:
Artworks must be NO SMALLER than A4
(210mm x 297mm) and NO LARGER than
A3 (420mm x 297mm) in size. Works that
are outside these dimensions cannot be
accepted for exhibitions.
Artworks may be horizontal (landscape) or
vertical (portrait).
Works should be submitted flat (not rolled)
on art paper of a reasonable quality.
The following media that reflect a range of
interpretations of the subject matter and a
range of expressive forms:
Drawing
Painting
Photography
Printmaking
Collage
Artworks on a stretched canvas cannot be
accepted.

2011 KMART ART OF GIVING
COMPETITION

Australian primary school.
The artwork can be produced on A4, A3

the most creative and well illustrated
artwork that best represents the theme
of 'why helping others is important'

5 th Cake & Surprise Stall for 2011

3K & KA will be the proud hosts of the fifth “Cake
& Surprise Stall” on Friday the 29 th July from
2:45pm till 3:30pm.
With the support of the students, parents and staff
we’re sure they’ll do an awesome job of hosting
our fifth stall this year. We are confident the tables
will be groaning under the weight of all the yummy
food and treats so please help us raise much
needed funds for the school by coming along and
buying something from the stall.
So far the weather has been kind to us, however if
it should rain the stall will still go ahead in the wet
weather shed. Share in the excitement and great
food – RAIN OR SHINE!
