Maifest
Since we were out of town, Ginny Hayes was nice enough to keep notes at the Maifest: On
Saturday, May 22. 2010, approximately 30 hearty souls showed up at the Village Pub
to celebrate Maifest. It was a nasty, cold rainy day, but in spite of the fact that it poured rain the
entire time, our wonderful club members were not deterred!
Special thanks go out to Andy Thomas, who got soaked as he set up the barbecue, music
and decorations. Wally and Rudy brought the brats, buns, delicious sauerkraut, and all of the
utensil boxes from the storage unit. Extra special appreciation goes out to Kathy Rundquist and her
mother, Lorna, who were gracious enough to go home in order to bring back jackets, gloves and
blankets. We could not have made it without you help!!
We sang the Edelweiss song, huddled together, and enjoyed all of the fantastic food provided by
our club members.
We also had two visitors: Rev. Philip Bohlken and his wife Kathy, from Caldwell.
He came to our get together, as he wanted to practice speaking German. We were delighted to
oblige him and exchange German travel stories with him and his wife.
A wonderful time was had by all by all in spite of the inclement weather. Thanks again to all of the
dedicated participants!!
International Festival
The International Festival in Ontario was held last Saturday, the 5 th of June. Rudy and Wally had
organized everything beforehand so that our set up on Friday evening went rather smooth. Rudy
had picked up several tables and chairs from Kathy’s neighbor – thank God he has a trailer. Also
Dagmar and Jack Nieland, Kathy and Natalie Rundquist with their mother Lorna, Karin and Karl
Heinz Ruttke and Uschi and myself.
It was a rainy evening and the grass was soaked. We had hoped for some business but it was not to
be. The next day, however, brought dry weather with some sunshine and more helpers: John and
Pauli Wanamaker and Emma and Werner Fien. At times we were quite busy. We did not sell
everything but I think we did rather well. Andy Thomas came and he was very helpful at the end of
the day with the clean up. A big Thank You to all!!
