Prevention of Air Entrainment When initiating support: • Partially inflate lungs prior to separation from CPB • Place patient in Trendelenburg position • Monitor aorta for air with TEE • Fill chest with warm normal saline or CO 2 • Increase RPM very slowly • Insure adequate volume in heart chamber when coming off cardiopulmonary bypass • Watch circuit and use clamp to prevent air from entering blood p p g pump
