Prevention of Air Entrainment<br />

During <strong>Support</strong><br />

• Monitor blood volume with TEE &/or Pressures<br />

• Maintain atrial pressures 10–15 mm Hg in the O.R.<br />

• Under perfuse while the chest is open<br />

• Encourage the use of ventricular cannulation<br />

• Encourage the use of biventricular support<br />

• Reduce RPM for any indication of inadequate volume<br />

• Reduce RPM for manipulation of the heart<br />

• RReduce d RPM ffor movement t of f th the patient ti t<br />

• Monitor tubing for “chatter” & be prepared to respond<br />

• As soon as possible p set the low flow alarm<br />

• Reduce flow when inflating lungs
