In the scope <strong>of</strong> the opera, Ferrando sings “Ah! lo veggio” to Fiordiligi in response to her<br />
protestations against his romantic overtures. He has high hopes <strong>of</strong> winning her heart, and<br />
thereby the bet. However, in the third stanza <strong>of</strong> text, Ferrando realizes that Fiordiligi is rebuffing<br />
his overtures yet again. After singing the aria, he promptly leaves the stage in true seria fashion.<br />
Surprisingly, the first two lines <strong>of</strong> this third stanza <strong>of</strong> text do not correspond to the musical C<br />
section and new tempo, but rather to the harmonically unstable interruption/transitional section<br />
in m. 93-99. (See Example 6 and figure 4 above) <strong>The</strong> musical C section actually corresponds to<br />
only the final two lines <strong>of</strong> the text.<br />
