Continuing Education: A flexible program that offers courses, programs, and<br />
conferences geared toward professional development in areas such as computer<br />
training, small business development, and continuing professional education and<br />
re-certification.<br />
Controlled Substances: Any drug or drug paraphernalia, chemical or substance,<br />
whose delivery, manufacture, possession, sale, purchase, use, abuse, or distribution<br />
of controlled substances (as defined by federal law or in the Texas Controlled<br />
Substance Act) is contrary to the laws of the State of Texas.<br />
Cooperative Work Experience: A method of instruction between a sponsoring<br />
company and the student providing training and experience in the workplace.<br />
<strong>Student</strong>s work toward reaching established learning objectives as outlined in a<br />
formal plan developed by faculty and staff.<br />
Core Curriculum: Courses that all undergraduate students at <strong>Collin</strong> <strong>College</strong> are<br />
required to complete before receiving an Associate of Arts, Associate of Science,<br />
Associate of Arts in Teaching, or Associate of Applied Science degree.<br />
Co-requisite: Refers to courses that must be taken simultaneously during the same<br />
semester.<br />
Cougarmail: A campus-wide e-mail system used to communicate with students and<br />
college employees.<br />
CougarWeb: Using CougarWeb, students can view classes and availability, register<br />
for classes, pay tuition, view financial aid status, access CougarMail, and more.<br />
Course Load: The number of semester hours for which a student enrolls in a given<br />
term.<br />
Course Reference Number (CRN): A number used during online registration to<br />
register for a specific course and section.<br />
CPC: Abbreviation for Central Park Campus.<br />
Credit: Units assigned to each course (see Credit Hour).<br />
Credit by Exam: Exams offered through <strong>Collin</strong> <strong>College</strong> to receive credit for a<br />
specific course.<br />
Credit Hour: A unit of measurement used to fulfill the requirements for a college<br />
degree or certificate. Varies by course, but generally refers to the number of hours<br />
spent in a specific course each week. Upon successful completion of a course, the<br />
credit hours earned are applied to the student’s academic transcript. <strong>Student</strong>s need<br />
to earn a specific number of credit hours to complete their associate degree or<br />
certificate program at <strong>Collin</strong> <strong>College</strong>, to transfer to a college or university, and to<br />
complete their bachelor’s degree at a college or university.<br />
Curriculum: All the courses collectively offered at <strong>Collin</strong> <strong>College</strong>.<br />
CYC: Abbreviation for Courtyard Center for Professional and Economic<br />
Development.<br />
Dean or Director: The administrative head of a division or department.<br />
