TEAM TEAM
Waste disposal status...
The growing number of hotels, canteens, restaurants, and townships in
India are facing the following problems related to waste disposal.
P How waste from canteen, hotels, townships, and wholesale vegetable
markets to be disposed off in environment-friendly manner?
P Limited knowledge of suitable disposal techniques
P Lack of space for disposal
P How to comply with ‘Solid Waste
(Management and Handling) Rules
2000’
Current practice for waste
disposal
P Thrown into sewer
P Dumping in low-lying areas/dump
sites/land fill sites
Organic waste – a resource
P Great potential to replace LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) or coal
P Potential to replace chemical fertilizers with good quality organic
manure
Products of TEAM
manure, biogas and
its application for
heating and light
Solution...
Solution...
TEAM (TERI’s Enhanced Acidification
and Methanation) is a hasslefree
eco-friendly technological
solution to the problem of canteen,
hotel, restaurant, and township
waste. TEAM is a biphasic process.
The first phase extracts the organic
content from the waste and the
second stage generates biogas from
liquefied waste. The digested
residue from the first phase is an
enriched manure. The TEAM
process operates throughout the
year under normal temperature
conditions.
Why TEAM... TEAM...
P Low payback period of one-and-a-half
year only
P Shorter waste processing period of only
one week in comparison to 4–8 weeks in
other biogas systems
P Zero-waste discharge system with low
water requirement
P Biogas of higher calorific value (minimum
7500 kCal/m 3 )
P No scum formation
P Easy handling and low maintenance
P Enriched manure with high NPK (nitrogen,
potassium, phosphorus)
P Possible as decentralized system of different capacity
as per requirement
P Flexibility of using different construction materials to
reduce plant cost
TEAM and food waste
P Minimum biogas yield of 50–60 m 3 /tonne,
which is equivalent to
a) 25–30 kg LPG
b) 55–65 kg coal
P Enriched manure (10% of the total waste)
Nitrogen 1.2%
Phosphorus 0.1%
Potassium 0.6%
Low payback period of one-and a-half years*
* For one tonne per day capacity plant
