INcontrol And The
BioGienie
.

History
• INcontrol, supports a range of infection
control products supported across
Australasia by Fort Richard Laboratories
Ltd and Able Scientific.

Backed by renowned companies
in Australia and New Zealand
• Fort Richard – a family business with facilities in
Auckland & Melbourne operating since 1974
specializing in the manufacture and supply of culture
media and related microbiology consumables to
clinical laboratories/hospitals throughout new
Zealand and Australia. Many years experience in
supplying products for the surveillance of HAI’s.
• Able Scientific – a family business based in Perth WA
since 1990 supplying Life Science/biotechnology
products to Animal Research Facilities/Universities
throughout Australasia.

Global alliances in Healthcare
• Fort Richard acquired the Biogenie agency for Australasia
following contact with parent company Hygienics
Biosecurity at Medica 2009, recognizing the need to move
into prevention of HAI’s as well as surveillance.
• In order to best serve both Australia and New Zealand Fort
Richard has partnered with Able Scientific to represent the
Biogenie and several infection control products already
distributed by Able Scientific. This range of products forms
our brand INcontrol.
• Personnel from both companies received extensive training
on the Biogenie at Alton, UK in April 2010.
• Through our network of distribution facilities in Auckland,
Melbourne, and Perth, we will provide the ultimate in
service and support across Australasia.

And now, let us introduce the
BioGienie

BioGienie - prevention is
better than cure
• The most technologically advanced yet simpleto-use
decontamination system on the market
today.
• Built on the successful history of H2O2 room
decontamination by utilizing lower-risk
disinfectant (meaning a much more portable
and available system), easy-to-use intuitive
software, light and maneuverable design
features, and a more effective kill due to the
ionized and nucleated dry-mist vapor.
• All this combines to deliver an affordable inhouse
decontamination system previously
unavailable to healthcare organizations.

The Problem – HAI (Healthcare
Acquired Infection) -
• HAI’s cost aproximately $1 billion each
year*
– 175,000 patients infected whilst in hospital
each year
• 5 days extra days in hospital
• A patient costs $2 - 20k extra to treat
• Litigation increasing
• ~20% mortality
• A very emotive subject

The Problem – HAI (Healthcare
Acquired Infection)
• Common Pathogens include:
• MRSA
• Clostridium Difficile *
• Acinetobacter
• Norovirus
• VRE/ESBL

The Problem – HAI (Healthcare
Acquired Infection) - Australia
• A report released by professor Graves in
September 2009 estimates that “the
annual direct cost of treating HAI
(Hospital Acquired infections) was close
to $1 billion, and that improving
infection control could save roughly
$600 million”

The Problem – HAI (Healthcare
Acquired Infection) - Australia
• Latest news in Australia has the press saying “A stomach
bug that has killed thousands in Canada, USA, Britain &
Europe has been found in Australia. It is known as “the
Quebec strain of Clostridium difficile’ & does not respond
to the alcoholic hand cleanser now used throughout
Australia’s hospitals. A full hand wash with disinfectant
soap & water, isolation of patients & disinfecting wards is
required to prevent it spreading. Australia is ill-prepared if
there is a spread from the 3 patients confirmed in
Melbourne’s Epworth hospital. Only two laboratories in
Australia - In Sydney & Perth – can positively identify this
serious bug, but moves are afoot to enable
microbiologists in each state to rapidly identify any
outbreak.”

Biogienie - backed by clinical studies
• In a recent study, hydrogen peroxide vapour
decontamination was 82% more effective at eradicating C.
difficile than conventional wiping and disinfecting using
hypochlorite.
• A Journal of Hospital Infection study of MRSA showed that
after conventional terminal cleaning, 66% of 124 swabs
yielded MRSA (74% by direct plating), while after hydrogen
peroxide vapour decontamination, only 1 of 85 swabs
yielded MRSA (by enrichment culture only).
• Another study showed 100% elimination of C. difficile
contamination after hydrogen peroxide vapour
decontamination.
• Over half of the UK hospitals have purchased the Biogienie
and attribute a 50% reduction in HAI’s to the use of this
system.
