36 Now one of the Pharisees invited Jesus to have dinner with him, so he went to the 

Pharisee’s house and reclined at the table. 37 When a woman who had lived a sinful life in that 

town learned that Jesus was eating at the Pharisee’s house, she brought an alabaster jar of 

perfume, 38 and as she stood behind him at his feet weeping, she began to wet his feet with her 

tears. Then she wiped them with her hair, kissed them and poured perfume on them. 

39 When the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, ―If this man were a 

prophet, he would know who is touching him and what kind of woman she is—that she is a 

sinner.‖ 

40 Jesus answered him, ―Simon, I have something to tell you.‖ 

―Tell me, teacher,‖ he said. 

41 ―Two men owed money to a certain moneylender. One owed him five hundred denarii, and 

the other fifty. 42 Neither of them had the money to pay him back, so he canceled the debts of 

both. Now which of them will love him more?‖ 

43 Simon replied, ―I suppose the one who had the bigger debt canceled.‖ 

―You have judged correctly,‖ Jesus said. 

44 Then he turned toward the woman and said to Simon, ―Do you see this woman? I came 

into your house. You did not give me any water for my feet, but she wet my feet with her tears 

and wiped them with her hair. 45 You did not give me a kiss, but this woman, from the time I 

entered, has not stopped kissing my feet. 46 You did not put oil on my head, but she has poured 

perfume on my feet. 47 Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven—for she loved 

much. But he who has been forgiven little loves little.‖ 

48 Then Jesus said to her, ―Your sins are forgiven.‖ 

49 The other guests began to say among themselves, ―Who is this who even forgives sins?‖ 

50 Jesus said to the woman, ―Your faith has saved you; go in peace.‖ 

Today it can be the same for you…you too can go in peace 

God has truly forgiven me for much and He longs to do the same in your life! 

Our enemy, the devil…wants you to think you are yet to be forgiven and still without freedom… 

and in order to capture you… he wants to lure you into darkness with a feeling that either you 

are without hope or you are completely normal… TOUGH TO CHOOSE WHICH IS WORSE 

Leaving you deceived with lies of cultural significance. 

We have allowed sex and pornography to master over us. To control our behaviors, to 

intrude into our relationships, to cloud our image of woman and men, set unfair expectations 

on our personal God given sex lives, and some how have become comfortable with the 

invasion—so much so that we don’t even admit that it is in our homes. 

1. In this room are all kinds of people with various and diverse relationships with God and 

with pornography. 

a. Those who care about a relationship with God -- to those who don’t. 

b. Those who are adamantly opposed to porn -- to those who would argue that it’s 

fine and does no one any harm. 

c. Those who don’t understand why we would talk about this – to those who are 

desperate to talk about it.

2. If you are one who has no idea why we’d be dealing with this, please use these next 

30 minutes to pray for those who see this differently, those who need a life free form 

the control of the sinful nature they so often feel defeated by. 

a. All different kinds of reactions are expected. 

b. One thing we can all agree on – We live in a very sensual society! 

i. When Sports Illustrated has a ―swimsuit‖ edition that has a nude 

centerfold in its anniversary addition—times are changing. 

ii. When Victoria Secret models parade on our TV screens and in our 

mailboxes in skimpy lingerie, and we have a ―lingerie bowl‖ during the 

halftime show of the Super Bowl (which, come to think of it, had a bare 

breast of a woman shot all over the world). Go Daddy!!!.com 

iii. Girls have indeed Gone Wild these days. 

Truly I feel a bit like a mosquito in a nudist colony as it pertains to this subject. 

So much territory to cover, I will just give it my best within the time we have. 

Pornography defined; anything you can see, read or hear that’s designed to cause 

sexual arousal, including magazines, books, movies, music, computers… 

1. THE TRUTH ABOUT PORN 

You already feel this truth in real life…But we are the first generation to grow up with pointand-click 

pornography. 

Inbox 

Search gone bad 

Curiosity gone too far 

You open the link on a hacked twitter account, or become the friend of someone you 

thought you knew 

And now, among youth, the leading temptation…their classmates texts (SEXTING) 

You see nearly 14,000 sexual scenes and references each year on television. 

That’s more than 38 a day 

In 1973 there were fewer than 1000 adult theatres across the country. 

But in the early 70’s there was movie released by the name of Deep Throat. 

Everything changed. 

This movie cost $25,000 to make, and made a profit of $50 MILLION!! 

People took notice—as did organized crime. 

Then came the VHS – and this could be shown in your home. 

Hollywood produces about 400 feature films a year, at about $150 million per film—but 

there are over 11,000 porno’s produced annually – at a fraction of the cost. 

There are 372 million pages of pornography online; an increase of more than 2,000 

percent since 1998. And this changes exponentially every day 

Pornography is becoming: 

More explicit 

More violent 

More deviant 



The birth of the “respectable” porn star era is at hand 

1. Jenna Jameson is an industry unto herself! 

2. She has appeared in more than 1,000 mainstream magazine articles. She has been on 

more than 400 magazine covers. 

3. According to Rolling Stone, Jenna Jameson is the actress who ―put the star in porn star.‖ 

4. She now has a show on basic cable that runs almost daily 

Playboy as well has a show that runs almost daily on the E! television network. Glamorizing 

the life of porn stars. 

In a recent article in Playboy magazine, (which I read on xxxchurch.com) we see the 

influence of pop culture on the issue of porn. John Mayer was asked about porn: 

MAYER: I’m a self-soother. The Internet, DVR, Netflix, Twitter—all these things are 

moments in time throughout your day when you’re able to soothe yourself. We have an 

autonomy of comfort and pleasure. By the way, pornography? It’s a new synaptic pathway. 

You wake up in the morning, open a thumbnail page, and it leads to a Pandora’s box of 

visuals. There have probably been days when I saw 300 [naked girls] before I got out of 

bed. 

PLAYBOY: Masturbation for you is as good as sex? 

MAYER: Absolutely, because during sex, I’m just going to run a filmstrip. I’m still 

masturbating. That’s what you do when you’re 30, 31, 32. This is my problem now: Rather 

than meet somebody new, I would rather go home and replay the amazing experiences I’ve 

already had. 

How has this become so mainstream? There are Billions of dollars targeting the next 

generation, targeting us…. every day. 

Women…is that what you want to be, an object…a result of a filmstrip in your man’s 

mind? If not we must go after our enemy, and view Porn as a legitimate foe

weakness.‖ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that 

Christ’s power may rest on me. 10 That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, 

in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am 

strong. 

Can I just say we need to share our testimonies more…why are we so afraid of 

weakness. Weaknesses relate, but strengths impress. Stop impressing those 

around you and start relating by LIVING LIFE OPEN.

30 If I must boast, I will boast of the things that show my weakness.

Word got into me and I realized even I could have a relationship with Jesus

I finally surrendered…but only partially…I resisted the call on my life for a 

couple years that I knew immediately was there. 

I knew I was saved, but didn’t grasp I was forgiven for quite a time later. 

1 Corinthians 6:9-11 (NIV) 

9 Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be 

deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male 

prostitutes nor homosexual offenders 10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards 

nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And that is what 

some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified 

in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

See…I would look in the mirror…even after being a Christian…even after feeling 

the call to ministry welling up in me…even after striving for purity…and I would 

wrestle with a feeling of ―I’m not good enough‖ 

But this is what the Lord is saying, “you…were washed, sanctified, justified” 

Washed means… cleansed to your inner being…literally made new 



Sanctified means… separation from that which is evil, and of dedication unto God 

Justified means… in a court of law…you are innocent 

Does that mean I don’t deal with the realities of having been with dozens of women in 

my life before choosing to grow in a relationship with Jesus? 

Try having one of your ex-girlfriends walk into a Starbucks you are having a staff 

meeting at with your pastors. 

Try getting the filmstrip out of your head of all the videos, magazines and internet sites 

you viewed. 

Try overcoming the challenges of a wife wondering what is in your mind comparing 

herself to all the unknown others. 

Just this last week I was trying to determine where I knew a woman from that 

came for the first time to our Chamber meeting at Zato’s and in helping me Dana 

said, ―maybe you should picture her with her close off and you might remember.‖ 

Just keeping it real…it is always before us…but we will overcome. 

Where are you today with regards to your commitment to personal purity? 

Personal purity and sexual integrity is more than ―just saying no‖ to sin. It’s about saying 

―yes: to Jesus Christ, saying ―yes‖ to freedom, and saying “yes” to being an effective 

example of one who is growing in your relationship with Jesus through your choices. 

Purpose in your heart to be pure! 

Don’t try and make a commitment to win 

Commit to fight, to be accountable to those around you. 

Commit to follow Christ in this area of your life 

PORN is not normal 

PORN doesn’t teach us the truth about sex 

They want your MONEY 

They want you to believe it is OK 

Images are very powerful influencers in our lives…audible, feeling, smell and visual images are 

powerful emotional triggers for the human brain. 

1. this is why millions of dollars are spent on a 30 second commercial during a supper bowl 

2. why a brand name product ends up in a movie or television show 

3. why a market is effected by a single movie like Bambi…when the movie ―Bambi‖ came 

out, deer hunting dropped in revenue from 9.5 million dollars a year to 4.1 in one 

year…kids were begging their daddies to not go out and kill Bambi’s mother. 

EMOTIONS BYPASS OUR CONSCIOUS MIND 

FIRE ILLUSTRATION 



On a cold, dark night, there’s nothing like a fire. Dana and I while dating would build is 

up until it was burning hot in the room and just enjoy the relaxing of the fire.. 

1. Fires built properly are safe, warm, relaxing and romantic 

2. But, what if the fire is taken out of the fireplace 

a. Which was built to contain the fire 

3. Drop it into the middle of the room 

4. Suddenly, it becomes a destructive inferno. It can burn down the whole house 

and kill everyone inside. 

a. Sex is like that fire 

i. Pornography takes sex out of the safe context of the fireplace 

ii. It pushes a very destructive lifestyle that leads to 

1. disease 

2. unwanted pregnancy 

3. anxiety 

4. grief 

5. shame 

6. divorce 

7. and too often violence 

The truth is God wants us to treat those around us with absolute purity 

1Timothy 5:1 (NIV) 

Do not rebuke an older man harshly, but exhort him as if he were your father. 

Treat younger men as brothers, 2 older women as mothers, and younger women 

as sisters, with absolute purity. 

The truth is our struggle is not with our flesh 

Ephesians 6:12 (NIV) 

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the 

authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of 

evil in the heavenly realms. 

ROMANS 8:38-39 (NLT) 

And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from his love. Death can’t, 

and life can’t. The angels can’t, and the demons can’t. Our fears for today, our 

worries about tomorrow, and even the powers of hell can’t keep God’s love away. 

39 Whether we are high above the sky or in the deepest ocean, nothing in all creation 

will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus 

our Lord. 

The truth is you cannot defeat this ALONE 



READ A KING’S SON STORY w/Omaha Beach Saving Private Ryan on O 

There was once a great and noble King whose land was terrorized by a crafty dragon. 

Like a massive bird of prey, the scaly beast delighted in ravaging villages with his fiery breath. 

Hapless victims ran from their burning homes, only to be snatched into the dragon’s jaws or 

talons. Those devoured instantly were deemed more fortunate than those carried back to the 

dragon’s lair to be devoured at his leisure. The King led his sons and knights in many valiant 

battles against the serpent. 

Riding alone in the forest, one of the king’s sons heard his name purred low and soft. In the 

shadows of the ferns and trees, curled among the boulders, lay the dragon. The creature’s 

heavy-lidded eyes fastened on the prince, and the reptilian mouth stretched into a friendly smile. 

―Don’t be alarmed,‖ said the dragon, as gray wisps of smoke rose lazily from his nostrils. ―I 

am not what your father thinks.‖ 

―What are you, then?‖ asked the prince, warily drawing his sword as he pulled in the reins to 

keep his fearful horse from bolting. 

―I am pleasure,‖ said the dragon. ―Ride on my back and you will experience more than you 

ever imagined. Come now. I have no harmful intentions I seek a friend, someone to share 

flights with me. Have you never dreamed of flying? Never longed to soar in the clouds?‖ 

Visions of soaring high above the forested hills drew the prince hesitantly from his horse. 

The dragon unfurled one great webbed wing to serve as a ramp to his ridged back. Between the 

spiny projections, the prince found a secure seat. Then the creature snapped his powerful wings 

twice and launched them into the sky. The prince’s apprehensions melted into awe and 

exhilaration. 

From then on, he met the dragon often, but secretly, for how could he tell his father, 

brothers or the knights that he had befriended the enemy? The prince felt separate from them 

all. Their concerns were no longer his concerns. Even when he wasn’t with the dragon, he spent 

less time with those he loved and more time alone. 

The skin on the prince’s legs became calloused from gripping the ridged back of the dragon, 

and his hands grew rough and hardened. He began wearing gloves to hide the malady. After 

many nights of riding, he discovered scales growing on the backs of his hands as well. With 

dread he realized his fate were he to continue, and so he resolved to return no more to the 

dragon. 

But, after a fortnight, he again sought out the dragon, having been tortured with desire. 

And so it transpired many times over. No matter what his determination, the prince eventually 

found himself pulled back, as if by the cords of an invisible web. Silently, patiently, the dragon 

always waited. 

One cold, moonless night their excursion became a foray against a sleeping village. 

Torching the thatched roofs with fiery blasts from his nostrils, the dragon roared with delight 

when the terrified victims fled from their burning homes. Swooping in, the serpent belched again 

and flames engulfed a cluster of screaming villagers. The prince closed his eyes tightly in an 

attempt to shut out the carnage. 

In the predawn hours, when the prince crept back from his dragon trysts, the road outside 

his father’s castle usually remained empty. But not tonight. Terrified refugees streamed into the 

protective walls of the castle. The prince attempted to slip through the crowd to close himself in 

his chambers, but some of the survivors stared and pointed toward him. 

―He was there,‖ one woman cried out, ― I saw him on the back of the dragon.‖ Others 

nodded their heads in angry agreement. Horrified, the prince saw that his father, the King, was 

in the courtyard holding a bleeding child in his arms. 



The King’s face mirrored the agony of his people as his eyes found the prince’s. The son 

fled, hoping to escape into the night, but the guards apprehended him as if he were a 

common thief. They brought him to the great hall where his father sat solemnly on the throne. 

The people on every side railed against the prince. 

―Banish him!‖ he heard one of his own brothers angrily cry out. 

―Burn him alive!‖ other voices shouted. 

As the King rose from his throne, bloodstains from the wounded shone darkly on his royal 

robes. The crowd fell silent in expectation of his decree. The prince, who could not bear to 

look into his father’s face, stared at the flagstones of the floor. 

―Take off your gloves and your tunic,‖ the King commanded. The prince obeyed slowly, 

dreading to have his metamorphosis uncovered before the kingdom. Was his shame not 

already great enough? He had hoped for a quick death without further humiliation. Sounds 

of revulsion rippled through the crowd at the sight of the prince’s thick, scaled skin and the ridge 

growing along his spine. 

The King strode toward his son, and the prince steeled himself, fully expecting a backhanded 

blow even though he had never been struck so by his father. 

Instead, his father embraced him and wept as he held him tightly. In shocked disbelief, 

the prince buried his face against his father’s shoulder. 

―Do you wish to be freed from the dragon, my son?‖ 

The prince answered in despair, ―I wished it many times, but there is no hope for me.‖ 

“Not alone,” said the King. “You cannot win against the serpent alone.” 

―Father, I am no longer your son. I am half beast,‖ sobbed the prince. 

But his father replied, ―My blood runs in your veins. My nobility has always been stamped 

deep within your soul.‖ 

With his face still hidden tearfully in his father’s embrace, the prince heard the King instruct 

the crowd, ―The dragon is crafty. Some fall victim to his wiles and some to his violence. There 

will be mercy for all who wish to be freed. Who else among you has ridden the dragon?” 

The prince lifted his head to see someone emerge from the crowd. To his amazement, he 

recognized an older brother, one who had been lauded throughout the kingdom for his 

onslaughts against the dragon in battle and for his many good deeds. Others came, some 

weeping, others hanging their heads in shame. 

The King embraced them all. 

―This is our most powerful weapon against the dragon,‖ he announced. ―Truth. No more 

hidden flights. Alone we cannot resist him.‖ 

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO? 

1JN 1:8 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9 If we 

confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all 

unrighteousness. 10 If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word 

has no place in our lives. 

JN 8:12 … Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows 

me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." 



My next step today: 

I will invite God to be Lord of my love life 

I will purpose in my heart to fight for purity 

I will talk to my parents, spouse, and kids about this, avoiding the ―dirty little secret‖ 

I will take action and protect my family’s computers, TV, and phones 

I will find someone to ask me the tough questions necessary to keep me on track 

Indicate your response on your own note sheet, and take action this week to protect, heal 

and enter into a peace you have never imagined possible again! 

And hopefully you have had a chance to complete your connection card. Maybe indicate on 

that a response for today if you have yet to do so. If you just prayed to ask forgiveness and 

receive healing in your life for the first time…check that box that indicates you today are 

choosing to follow Jesus. It will be our privileged from this point forward to help you grow in 

your relationship with Jesus. 

At this time every week we take up the tithe and offerings. God put in place the principles 

of generosity from the beginning. He gave Adam and Eve everything…except one tree. Today 

God is still in the business of generosity and at Open Life we give you a chance to practice that 

every week as we take up a money collection called tithes and offerings. God challenges us 

throughout the Bible to give a tenth of our gross income to the work of our church. And even 

challenges us to give above and beyond that tenth in accordance with our income so that when 

the time comes and needs arise we don’t have to take a collection, but the money will already 

be in the church ready to disburse as leadership discerns best. 

We are not in the business of being cheep, digging through roofs costs money, but the 

stories of lives impacted by the authentic love of Jesus make every penny spent worth it.
