Career Studies Continued from page one--
This includes not only specific classes, but also, clubs, sports, &
volunteer activities. All of these help students figure out what exactly
they are interested in, and may lead them to a more enjoyable future.
Tuesday, January 20 th , in conjunction with the Secrist PTA, all TUSD high
schools were invited to share what they have to offer at each of their
individual schools. Because TUSD is a large district, there are many
choices on where and what our students will learn. All students must
complete specific high school graduation requirements, but when it
comes to choosing electives, there are many choices offered; our
students need to know what’s available to meet their needs best.
Thank you, Mrs. Bernier, for being such a great home base/advisory
leader and getting all of the career lessons on-line. Thank you, social
studies teachers, for allowing teaching time with your students in the
computer lab. Especially thanks to ALL of our home base/advisory
teachers for helping deliver these valuable career lessons to all of our
students! --by Cheryl Norwood---Secrist Counselor
Check Out Daughters of the Night Series
Think you’ve read every book on Earth? You probably haven’t read this very unique series by
Lynne Ewing. Four girls who all possess a supernatural power: Vanessa can become invisible,
Catty can travel back in time, Serena can read your mind, and Jimena gets premonitions. What do
these young teenagers do when they find out they’re really goddesses of the moon and have to
protect the world from the evil Atrox and its followers? These books are great for those readers
interested in fantasy and supernatural. All the books in the series are: Goddess of the Night, Into
the Cold Fire, Night Shade , The Secret Scroll, The Sacrifice, The Lost One, Moon Demon,
Possession, The Choice, The Talisman, The Prophecy, The Becoming and The Last Eclipse.
Bump! Set! Spike! That’s What We Like!
The boys’ volleyball team this year was phenomenal. The roster for the team was: Matt Fridley, Matt
Rogers, Michael Para, Miguel Thomas, Ryan Perez, Ryan Shalaty, Nick Shalaty, Bennet Shulkin, Sam
Huber, Emilio Guiterrez, Richie Foitik, Ramon, Billy Markowski, Johnny Power, Kyle Varley, Nate, Triston
Lightener and Zack Tumes. The boys’ volleyball teams’ record for the season was 4-3 4 wins and 3 losses.
But they lost their first playoff game and ended their season. The coach who is greatly appreciated for
this is Mr. Noirot, a technology teacher here at Secrist. You wouldn’t think that a technology teacher
would teach volleyball but because of Mr. Noirot, Secrist had an excellent season. Thank you Mr. Noirot!
