Business Alumni Chapter<br />

Meeting Minutes 11/3/07<br />

Kevin Riley opened <strong>the</strong> meeting at 11:00 a.m. in<br />

<strong>the</strong> Plaster School <strong>of</strong> Business Room 211. Mr. Riley<br />

welcomed all attendees, and <strong>the</strong> minutes from<br />

<strong>the</strong> 2006 meeting were submitted and approved.<br />

The treasurer’s report showed a fund balance <strong>of</strong><br />

$2,550.71. There was no o<strong>the</strong>r old business.<br />

In new business, nominations for secretary/<br />

treasurer were accepted. Outgoing president Robert<br />

Wheeler agreed to serve as secretary/treasurer. He<br />

was nominated and elected by acclamation. Lindon<br />

Newberry moves to president, and Kevin Riley moves<br />

to vice president for this year.<br />

Mr. Riley updated those attending on <strong>the</strong> activities<br />

and accomplishments <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> BUS/PBL group, Students<br />

In Free Enterprise, and <strong>the</strong> Plaster School <strong>of</strong> Business.<br />

The Beulah I. Winfrey Alumni Chapter approved<br />

funding <strong>of</strong> up to $500.00 to business clubs and<br />

organizations for student travel in this academic<br />

year.<br />

Everyone present was encouraged to provide<br />

membership information to o<strong>the</strong>r business and<br />

Trooper is a Hero<br />

Missouri State Trooper Andy<br />

Ward ‘x07 is being called a hero<br />

for saving <strong>the</strong> life <strong>of</strong> an 84-year-old<br />

woman in Poplar Bluff, MO. At <strong>the</strong><br />

scene <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> recent car accident,<br />

Trooper Ward was able to remove<br />

<strong>the</strong> lady from her car just as it<br />

burst into flames.<br />

Regarding his heroic actions,<br />

Andy said, “I just feel like God put<br />

me <strong>the</strong>re for a reason.” It is reported that he has<br />

been recommended for an award <strong>of</strong> valor. Andy<br />

attended C <strong>of</strong> O for two years prior to his training<br />

at <strong>the</strong> Missouri Highway Patrol Academy.<br />

accounting alumni from <strong>College</strong> (School) <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>Ozarks</strong>. Suggestions for increasing membership<br />

in <strong>the</strong> business alumni group included asking<br />

<strong>the</strong> Alumni Association on campus for contact<br />

information and having area Chapter Representatives<br />

for <strong>the</strong> Alumni Association make contacts during<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir meetings. Ano<strong>the</strong>r suggestion was to utilize<br />

sites such as Classmates.com to post current<br />

information and notices regarding activities being<br />

held by <strong>the</strong> Plaster School <strong>of</strong> Business and increase<br />

networking opportunities.<br />

A list <strong>of</strong> current members can be seen at <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>College</strong> Website (www.c<strong>of</strong>o.edu) and linking to<br />

Alumni, specifically Business Alumni.<br />

The yearly dues remain $10.00 or a lifetime<br />

membership can be obtained for a one-time<br />

contribution <strong>of</strong> $200.00. Anyone can submit an<br />

application online and/or send dues to Mr. Kevin<br />

Riley (checks payable to <strong>College</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Ozarks</strong>) at <strong>the</strong><br />

following address: <strong>College</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Ozarks</strong>, P.O. Box 17,<br />

Point Lookout, MO 65726.<br />

The meeting adjourned at 11:35 a.m.<br />
