Sunday’s Word
First Reading: 2 Samual 12:7-10. 13
King David, greatly blessed by God, learns through repentance that he cannot
simply take all he desires. In his sorrow he learns about God’s justice – but also
of God’s great love and forgiveness.
Second Reading: Galatians 2:16. 19-21
For Paul the great revelation in Christ is that we don’t learn to be God-like only
through obeying rules, but rather through a thankful and humble loving
relationship with Christ, crucified and risen.
Gospel: Luke 7:36 – 8:3
The righteous and good Pharisee Simon has to learn the meaning of love from
the repentant woman with a bad name. Jesus tells us that it is she who come
closer to understanding God’s love.

SUMMER FETE
I have to say I am more than a little concerned about the
Summer Fete. As of this morning (Friday) we have:
- No bottles for the Bottle Tombola
- One book for the Book Stall
- 5 Raffle Prizes
- 4 things for the bric-a-brac stall
- Lots of gaps on the list of people to run stalls
And there is only a fortnight to go.
If our Summer fete is going to be a success rather than a
damp squib we need to do something about it!

The Diocesan Pilgrimage to Hednesford takes place on Sunday 7 th July 2013
with Mass at 4pm (Principal Celebrant – Fr Nicholas King SJ) followed by the
Blessed Sacrament Procession & Blessing of the Sick.
An exhibition in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Hednesford, based on the
Shroud of Turin (including a full size replica), will open from Wednesday 3 rd to

PILGRIMAGE WALK IN CENTRAL READING – Sunday, 7 th July, assemble in
St James Church at 2.30pm. This will be a guided walk of 1 – 1½ hours with all
our priests at the helm.
Chorpus Christ at Mapledurham: Many people attended and we would
like to thank all those who made the celebration possible. Thank you to all
the helpers, parents, children, parishioners, and especially Bishop William.
Our Summer Fete is at the end of this month (Saturday June 29th) Please
would you start to bring in items for our stalls. As usual we need bottles for
the tombola, books and DVDs good quality second hand goods, toys,
raffle prizes and later in the month cakes. Also please consider offering to
run a stall or an attraction, a list will be going up soon.
Date for you diary: On Friday 5 th July, at 7:30pm, Rise Theatre will be
putting on a performance at Our Lady of Peace and Blessed Dominic
Barberi Church, Earley, Reading, of their original and exciting play
inspired by the true story of Saint Alban, Britain’s first Christian Martyr.
We recommend that this performance is suitable for ages 13+ because of
the martyrdom scene. Tickets at £5.50 available from the website

The Book of Job: Suffering, Pain and Patience. This has been called ‘The
enigma of the ages’ and Michael and Sylvia Penny will be leading this
study afternoon sponsored by The Open Bible Trust at St. Stephen’s
Church Centre, 2.30-6.30 on Saturday 13 th July 2013. Refreshments will
