Dear Parents ROCK EISTEDDFOD We welcome you to Northmead Creative and Performing Arts High School. We would also like to extend an invitation for you to be part of our 2012 Rock Eisteddfod team. Northmead CAPAHS has a long tradition of performing in the Rock Eisteddfod Challenge. In 2007 we won 3 rd place in the Premier division. In 2009 we gained 5 th place and in 2010 Northmead CAPAHS won 1 st place with our piece ‘Dreams Realty’ in the Talent Storm competition. In 2012 we won 1 st place with The Last Message. This year we are hoping to reach the same high standards. We encourage you and your child to become involved with this special team of students, parents and teachers. It is a wonderful opportunity for students to perform live and develop their performing skills, and an exciting opportunity for parents to become part of the school community. Participation in the Rock Eisteddfod Challenge enables students to develop a range of skills; it encourages and promotes teamwork, dancing and acting skills and develops students’ confidence through performing on stage. All students are welcome and encouraged to attend our auditions in February. Dates will be confirmed at a later date so please listen out for announcements when the new school year begins. No experience is necessary. Rehearsals will take place every Sunday from February till show time in September. If you have questions or would like to be part of the team, please attend the first audition in February or please feel free to contact me at school. We look forward to seeing you there. Assessment for Learning ASSESSMENT POLICY YEARS 7-9 Assessment is for the purpose of directing future learning. Students are assessed according to the course outcomes. In Years 7-9 there are many ways in which this assessment is achieved. Assessment tools can include: Teacher observation of group work, class discussions, practical work Bookwork Class assessments Year assessments Homework Assignments In other words, for a satisfactory completion of the course, students must attend regularly and participate regularly in meaningful classroom activities including homework. Attendance For students to achieve their personal best, they need to attend school regularly. Frequent absences will result in gaps in their learning which will widen as the course work progresses. Northmead Creative and Performing Arts High School’s expectation is that students attend 100% of the time. Student’s absences in excess of 10% would significantly impair the student’s ability to perform at a satisfactory level and will result in parental interviews and a plan of action to be implemented. Absences from Assessment Tasks It is the student’s personal responsibility to inform teachers of their absence. This notification to the classroom teacher should be supported by a letter from the parent explaining the reason for the absence. In the case of missed class assessments the student will be expected to complete the task in the first lesson after the absence. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that the missed assessment is completed on their return to school. For serious illnesses which require prolonged absences, the Year Adviser, Head Teacher, Parent and Principal will negotiate an appropriate means of assessment.
