and the capitalization was reasonable due to the economic<br />

exigencies of all the previous years. It is at the end of<br />

1995, when the place of business was to become Santa<br />

Mª Magdalena no. 14 and the name of the Company,<br />

was changed from <strong>Ortiz</strong> y Compañía S.A. to <strong>Ortiz</strong><br />

Construcciones y Proyectos S.A.<br />

During 1996, the company transferred to its new building<br />

constructed for its company headquarters, the root of the<br />

<strong>Grupo</strong> <strong>Ortiz</strong>, in Calle Santa Mª Magdalena no. 14 from<br />

the Calle Zurbano no. 92, the previous headquarters of<br />

the company.<br />

During the month of April that year, once the General Plan<br />

for Madrid had been carried out the first and important<br />

land purchases were made in the UZP1.03 “Area of<br />

Vallecas”, that were to continue until approximately<br />

940,000 m 2 of rustic land were purchased, the reason why<br />

we took part in the following years in its urban development.<br />

During 1997 the first purchases were made in API 8.06<br />

“Vereda de Ganapanes Peñachica” which was to allow to<br />

us to take part in this urban development where the largest<br />

re-accommodation of dwellings to have taken place in a<br />

single action was to occur.<br />

As we see, our company was positioning itself in the real<br />

estate sector with enormous force, before the boom took<br />

place, with an enormous bank overdraft for the purpose.<br />

During the 90s <strong>Ortiz</strong> continues setting up small companies<br />

to carry out different specialized activities. INDAGSA<br />

(1991), Engineering company to design, calculate, make<br />

and place on site, blocks or reinforced concrete plates,<br />

for shopping centres, offices, houses etc… Iberproin<br />

(1994), Gas installer and sales company. Agricas (1997),<br />

Urbanizadora Gade (1997), real estate companies. Prorax<br />

(1991), Real estate development and sales company.<br />

It is indeed during these years, at<br />

the end of the 90s, when the <strong>Ortiz</strong><br />

Company constitute the Group<br />

and clearly position themselves<br />

in the real estate sector before<br />

the expansion of banking credit,<br />

which is why the purchases of<br />

land were financed with our own<br />

resources, deferred payments or<br />

the granting of building rights.<br />

During the first years of the 21st century the development<br />

and accomplishment of urban planning in which they<br />

had entered the preceding years was the main focus,<br />

but they did not take new positions in future real estate<br />

activities, but rather the capital gains realised in the<br />

urban development, they did not invest in new building<br />

land, but reinvestment was directed to obtaining major<br />

diversification.<br />

In the second half of this decade, the growth and<br />

diversification of the Company were already a fact.<br />

The purchase or founding of companies took place,<br />

like ASTEISA (2003) for water treatment; or real estate<br />

companies like <strong>Ortiz</strong> Inmobiliaria (2003) and Buildings<br />

Gade (2003) that were to become part of those in existence<br />

and fortify our position in the real estate market; or<br />

PROAKIS (2003) and ICMA (2004) that were to lay the<br />

way for us in the railway sector, so strong at present, and<br />

later with COSFESA (2007); ARIAN (2005) which was<br />

to reinforce in Andalusia our presence in the market of<br />

prefabricated concrete; and EMCA (2006), our Public<br />

Works company. Also FORTEM (2005), company<br />

dedicated to the specialized training of people who<br />

intervene in emergencies.<br />

By then, <strong>Grupo</strong> <strong>Ortiz</strong> was already considered one<br />

of the companies with the brightest future on the<br />

market. Far from being complacent, we set our sights on<br />

emerging markets, like that of Energies. In 2007, buying<br />

the electrical companies ELECOR and ELECFIRE; in<br />

2009, JUAN GALINDO T& D Y TRS; in Construction,<br />

we created IMPULSA GRUP ORTIZ to direct our<br />

operations in Catalonia, and also in 2009, the bases laid set<br />

down to go into Markets Abroad with the creation of the<br />

company ORTIZ INTERNATIONAL INVESTMENT<br />

and the purchase of shares in what is today GRUPO<br />

EOM that operates in Peru.<br />

Last year, our presence abroad was consolidated with<br />

companies who already have headquarters in Poland,<br />

Hungary, Bulgaria, Italy, Peru, Colombia or Chile, which<br />

currently completes the diversification that <strong>Grupo</strong> <strong>Ortiz</strong><br />

has carried out during last the two decades.<br />
