and the capitalization was reasonable due to the economic
exigencies of all the previous years. It is at the end of
1995, when the place of business was to become Santa
Mª Magdalena no. 14 and the name of the Company,
was changed from Ortiz y Compañía S.A. to Ortiz
Construcciones y Proyectos S.A.
During 1996, the company transferred to its new building
constructed for its company headquarters, the root of the
Grupo Ortiz, in Calle Santa Mª Magdalena no. 14 from
the Calle Zurbano no. 92, the previous headquarters of
the company.
During the month of April that year, once the General Plan
for Madrid had been carried out the first and important
land purchases were made in the UZP1.03 “Area of
Vallecas”, that were to continue until approximately
940,000 m 2 of rustic land were purchased, the reason why
we took part in the following years in its urban development.
During 1997 the first purchases were made in API 8.06
“Vereda de Ganapanes Peñachica” which was to allow to
us to take part in this urban development where the largest
re-accommodation of dwellings to have taken place in a
single action was to occur.
As we see, our company was positioning itself in the real
estate sector with enormous force, before the boom took
place, with an enormous bank overdraft for the purpose.
During the 90s Ortiz continues setting up small companies
to carry out different specialized activities. INDAGSA
(1991), Engineering company to design, calculate, make
and place on site, blocks or reinforced concrete plates,
for shopping centres, offices, houses etc… Iberproin
(1994), Gas installer and sales company. Agricas (1997),
Urbanizadora Gade (1997), real estate companies. Prorax
(1991), Real estate development and sales company.
It is indeed during these years, at
the end of the 90s, when the Ortiz
Company constitute the Group
and clearly position themselves
in the real estate sector before
the expansion of banking credit,
which is why the purchases of
land were financed with our own
resources, deferred payments or
the granting of building rights.
During the first years of the 21st century the development
and accomplishment of urban planning in which they
had entered the preceding years was the main focus,
but they did not take new positions in future real estate
activities, but rather the capital gains realised in the
urban development, they did not invest in new building
land, but reinvestment was directed to obtaining major
diversification.
In the second half of this decade, the growth and
diversification of the Company were already a fact.
The purchase or founding of companies took place,
like ASTEISA (2003) for water treatment; or real estate
companies like Ortiz Inmobiliaria (2003) and Buildings
Gade (2003) that were to become part of those in existence
and fortify our position in the real estate market; or
PROAKIS (2003) and ICMA (2004) that were to lay the
way for us in the railway sector, so strong at present, and
later with COSFESA (2007); ARIAN (2005) which was
to reinforce in Andalusia our presence in the market of
prefabricated concrete; and EMCA (2006), our Public
Works company. Also FORTEM (2005), company
dedicated to the specialized training of people who
intervene in emergencies.
By then, Grupo Ortiz was already considered one
of the companies with the brightest future on the
market. Far from being complacent, we set our sights on
emerging markets, like that of Energies. In 2007, buying
the electrical companies ELECOR and ELECFIRE; in
2009, JUAN GALINDO T& D Y TRS; in Construction,
we created IMPULSA GRUP ORTIZ to direct our
operations in Catalonia, and also in 2009, the bases laid set
down to go into Markets Abroad with the creation of the
company ORTIZ INTERNATIONAL INVESTMENT
and the purchase of shares in what is today GRUPO
EOM that operates in Peru.
Last year, our presence abroad was consolidated with
companies who already have headquarters in Poland,
Hungary, Bulgaria, Italy, Peru, Colombia or Chile, which
currently completes the diversification that Grupo Ortiz
has carried out during last the two decades.
