Xchanging Graduate Scheme 1
Now more than ever, experience is the key to building
a career on firm foundations. As a member of the
Xchanging Graduate Scheme, you have the opportunity
to gain experience working in a variety of challenging
roles for customers across 15 major industries.
We consistently provide the investment
which allows talent to become fully
realised potential.
The Xchanging Graduate Scheme is
one of the initiatives that expresses this
commitment.
Over the past five years, we’ve offered
opportunities to many graduates from a
wide range of backgrounds. We’ve helped
to launch successful careers and added
significant value to the business as a result.
The automotive industry was hit hard by recession.
So our customers depend on us to help them maximise
administrative and operational effectiveness and
manage product lifecycles. Could you drive even greater
savings and efficiencies for them in the years to come?
Xchanging Graduate Scheme
We provide business processing, technology and
procurement services internationally for customers
in almost every industry sector.
What does this mean?
It means we perform business functions on behalf
of our customers. For instance, rather than a
company employing a large procurement function,
they can chose to outsource that function to
us. This can be done for any non-core process
including accounting, IT and HR.
Our background
We began life in 1998 as a business processing
company. We soon took the strategic decision that
we could best serve customers as a technology
enabled provider and integrator of business process
services. Our subsequent evolution in providing
outsourced business processing, technology and
procurement services has been entirely focused on
our customers’ business needs.
Our aim remains simple; to provide these
outsourced services better, cheaper and faster.
‘Xchanging is a great company to work for
if you want to experience different sectors
in the business world, work alongside
experts in their field, study towards a
recognised qualification and take on
responsibility early.’
Outsourcing has never made more sense: we firmly believe
that increasing numbers of organisations will look to shed
functions which are peripheral to their vision and mission
but essential to their day-to-day operation. They will choose
Xchanging to help them with that because we have proven
expertise and a scale and scope driven by the calibre of
customers we serve.
One of the great strengths of Xchanging is the wide variety
of people we employ. There is no set Xchanging ‘type’. We
thrive on diversity. That said, any graduate programme needs
selection criteria. Ours are straightforward and transparent.
We are looking for men and women with excellent
academic credentials that will include a predicted
minimum 2.1 degree. You must, of course, hold a
valid right to work in the country to which you are
applying. You must be ambitious for yourself but
capable of working as part of a team, able to work
to clear objectives and meet tight deadlines.
Our organisation is young and fundamentally
entrepreneurial.
With that in mind, you should be able to
demonstrate both analytical and creative skills
together with a capacity for seeking opportunities
and embracing change.
We are also an international organisation – which
means you must have regional and global mobility.
On a similarly practical note, you will need to
communicate sometimes complex business
information with decision makers at many levels.
So you must be proficient in Microsoft Excel and
PowerPoint.
There is one other qualification that will serve you
well throughout your career with Xchanging.
A genuine passion for business.
Put simply: you must show you can make and save
money for our customers.
Because that is what we do.
Thirsty for success
We think big in food and beverage. We already
provide procurement expertise for one of the
UK’s biggest multinational food manufacturers
and technology services for a range of customers
around the world. If you have the appetite to
make us even more successful, we should talk.
Welcome home
build your career here
Our real estate clients face uniquely challenging
times. Do you have the potential to help them add
value and inspire confidence for fearful consumers
and cautious commercial buyers? If so, your talents
will find a warm welcome at Xchanging.
Xchanging Graduate Scheme
We take graduates into our business every year, with start
dates in September. Applications are welcome from anyone
who is an undergraduate in their final year, completing a
Masters, PHd or MBA. You can only apply once - so please
make the most of your opportunity.
Our Three Stage Process
We choose successful candidates for the Xchanging
Graduate Scheme using a three stage process:
Stage 1: Application
You must apply through the website, using the
link provided on the graduate home page. The
application features some initial questions and
a requirement to list your qualifications. We will
also screen your application for spelling and
grammatical accuracy.
Stage 2: Selection
Once stage 1 screening is finished, we select
candidates for assessment using SHL tests. These
tests are sent to you as web links to be carried out
online. They measure your verbal and numerical
reasoning ability. They are assessed against the
graduate norm we expect.
Stage 3: Assessment
Based on the results of the SHL tests, we create
a shortlist of candidates to attend one of our
assessment centres. The format is a mixture of
group work, individual interviews and presentations.
From these assessment centres, we make offers to
the strongest candidates.
‘With Xchanging being such a young
business, the youthful culture of
entrepreneurialism runs deep and means
pushing yourself to have new experiences.
This for me has been the most exciting
part of the culture of Xchanging.’
Precious assets
rich rewards
0123456789
There is a good reason why we have such a
strong representation amongst banks and financial
institutions. Banks with a high degree of outsourcing
have on average a 5% better cost-income ratio.
Could you convince potential new customers of the
value we deliver?
Your application to join Xchanging could be the first step
in a lifelong career. So you want to give yourself every
opportunity to shine. And we want you to succeed as well.
With that in mind, here’s our guide to ‘best practice’ at
every stage of the application process.
Stage 1: Submit a compelling application
Your application is an opportunity to sell your
skills and convince us that we need to have you
as part of the team. Treat it as such: make a case
for yourself giving specific, detailed examples and
answering key questions such as what you’ve
achieved, why you did it, how you approached it.
If you have already submitted a copy of your CV
we’ll keep this on file for consideration together
with your online application. If you have yet to do
so, please submit it by email.
We’re headquartered at Leadenhall Street in
London but our graduate placements could be at
any of our locations in the UK, so some flexibility
on your behalf would be beneficial.
Before you submit your application, please proofread
it carefully.
The business needs confident, literate professionals
with good attention to detail. So sloppy English
will hinder your chances from the start. Use plain
English and pay particular attention to grammar
and spelling.
Stage 2: Impress at the assessment centre
Following your initial application, you may be
invited to attend our assessment centre.
This will give you the opportunity to display
your capabilities in a series of written exercises,
one-to-one exercises and group exercises.
Making the most of your day at the assessment
centre starts with dressing smartly and being punctual.
You should participate at all times, make a
contribution to all the group exercises and
generally be assertive without becoming
overbearing. Be yourself. It shows confidence.
a) Convince in the interview
The interview takes you one step further by giving
you an opportunity to show your individual calibre.
You can prepare by:
- Reading the company website and especially
the graduate pages
- Noting the skills and competencies required
- Noting down any examples you can think
of when you have put these competencies
into practice
- Preparing questions to ask the interviewer
Going into the interview, start with a firm handshake
and friendly smile. Similarly, remember that your
body language will say a lot about you too – so make
sure you’re always projecting a positive impression.
The interview itself will be competency based.
That means you’ll be asked for examples of things
you have done in the past or situations you have
been in. Examples could come from vacation or
part-time work, University clubs and societies,
voluntary work, study at school or university,
holidays and travel or personal and family experiences.

16
Continued...
Use the STAR framework to structure your answers:
- Describe the Situation in which you found yourself
- Describe the Task you set out to achieve
- Describe the specific Action you took
- Describe the Result of your action
b) Persuade in the presentation
You will be asked to make a formal presentation.
Preparation is all-important for this task.
You will need to write an outline for your
presentation and put plenty of notes in the
sidebars. You may need to refer to your outline
throughout your presentation so it’s best if you
have your notes and other information ready at
a quick glance.
If you’re including charts and graphs, try to present
them in colour and make sure the information is
large enough for your audience to see clearly
Rehearse the presentation at home or in front of
your friends or family. When it comes to delivery,
have a strong introduction and conclusion,
speak clearly and make good eye contact with
your audience.
c) Engage in the written assessment
You will also need to complete a written
assessment. Start by carefully reading the question.
You can’t engage your readers with a well-written
answer unless you understand exactly what they
need to know. Make sure you address all the issues:
it may help to think of secondary questions that
shed light on the main one.
Structure your answer clearly and logically,
using sub-headings if they help readers follow
your argument.
You may be asked to work with numbers as part
of this exercise – so your maths will need to be up
to speed as well as your spelling and grammar.
3. Consider your offer
If you’ve received an offer of employment,
congratulations!
Take some time to think about the offer and begin
your decision-making process.
Keep the following things in mind:
- Return calls promptly
- Clarify any questions about the job that you
may have
- Accept or decline offers promptly
- Inform all recruiters of your final decision and
be prepared to discuss the decision factors
- Provide useful feedback to recruiters
- If you decline an offer, be positive about your
experience and maintain good relations with
the firm.
