To the Members of the Graduating Class, Today your names will be added to the long list of men and women who have earned degrees in liberal arts and business at the University of Baltimore. The earliest entries in this log date from 1928, when the university graduated 38 students who had completed the three-year evening law program. (Later consolidation with the Baltimore College of Commerce extended this list back to the 1880s.) Now, sixty-one years after graduating its first class, the University of Baltimore has more than 29,000 alumni. But the significance of this occasion is not that you are one of many, but that you yourself have achieved a worthy goal. These commencement ceremonies are a public recognition of that accomplishment, and demonstrate the university's pride in your achievement.
