saluting ThEIR SERVICE The College acknowledges the importance of remembering the sacrifice of current and previous generations who, as members of the Australian military, have served with honour to protect the freedoms of our country. the War Memorial built at the college in 2008 was the initial step in creating a permanent memorial. this year the college obtained a grant from the Department of Veterans’ Affairs through the saluting their service program to make further improvement to the Memorial. On 10 December at 8:40am captain Daniel riley from Albatross Naval Base will be joining the college at an assembly to present the Long tan Defence Award to three students. the recipients are Dino Panozzo [year 12], Nicholas Federer [year 11] and Emma Lockhart [year10].
yOUth OF thE yEAr - cOrriMAL LiONs cLUB On Wednesday 17th November two Yr 10 students from the College participated in the annual Lions Youth of the Year Competition. Breana Macpherson-Rice and Jozo Frankovic were individually interviewed by a panel of esteemed community members and later on in the evening delivered a prepared speech and answered impromptu questions. Both students spoke extremely well and were a credit to themselves, their families and the College. Jozo Frankovic was announced the winner of the Public Speaking section and declared the Overall Winner for the evening. He will go on to represent us at the regional finals in February 2011. Congratulations to both students and our best wishes to Jozo for the Lions Regional Finals. Robyn Fletcher English Coordinator NEWs FrOM thE cArEErs/VEt OFFicE Year 12 News We congratulate Nikita Karr (pictured left) on winning a $25,000 scholarship to study at Billy Blue Design school in North Sydney. Nikita worked hard to produce a design brief specifically for the scholarship application. This was in addition to her major works for Visual Arts and Design and Technology. What a great achievement! Another winner this year is Joshua Mallon-Pleace who won the Trainee of the Year award at the Illawarra VET awards recently. Joshua has been a Hospitality trainee at Murphy’s Bar and Grill. He has completed Cert II in Hospitality along with his HSC and has been offered a chef’s apprenticeship for 2011. We look forward to dining at his restaurant in the future and wish him well. Congratulations on your achievement. While Year 12 students await their HSC results, those not university bound have been working towards their futures in other areas and many have scored apprenticeships in such fields as construction, fitting and machining, horticulture, defence forces and RTA.
