Chapter Helping Confront
Dementia at Early Stage
Coping with a diagnosis of
Alzheimer’s disease or a related
dementia is never easy.
For Judy Lindblad and her
husband, Norm, who was diagnosed
with Alzheimer’s disease last year, the
Alzheimer’s Association has helped them
on the beginning steps of what will likely
be a long and challenging journey.
“The Early Stage programs helped
us to get real with the situation, to figure
out better ways to talk together about
Alzheimer's,” said Mrs. Lindblad.
In 2009, the Alzheimer’s Association
of Greater Cincinnati created an Early
Stage Advisory Council, comprised of
affected individuals in the early stage of
Norm and Judy Lindblad
Alzheimer’s or a related dementia. Based
on the council’s recommendations and the support of the Chapter’s Board of
Directors, early stage programming was expanded and a full-time coordinator
position was created this year.
“The importance of understanding and valuing the experience of those
in the earliest stages of dementia is an area of concern and priority for our
Chapter,” said Early Stage Program Coordinator Marjorie Rentz. “Individuals
are being diagnosed sooner in the disease process, increasing the need for early
interventions and supportive services that enhance the quality of a person’s life.
We are thrilled to be able to focus on developing these important programs for
those individuals and their families.”
For the Lindblads, their life adjustments have taken many forms, from how
to communicate the news of the diagnosis with family and friends to the decision
of driving.
“Not driving was and is hard. It is a big change in my life and it upset
me, but I'm OK now,” said Mr. Lindblad. “The more I try to communicate the
better it is because I am trying to handle things as long as I can. I get frustrated
but I'm not angry, this is the way it is."
Based on the recommendations of the Early Stage Advisory Council, the
Chapter’s Early Stage Programs will focus on education, support and social
engagement. In May, the Chapter launched its first Early Stage Lecture Series
bringing in medical and legal experts to talk to diagnosed individuals and their
families. According to Ms. Rentz, the Lecture Series will be offered twice a year
– in the spring and fall.
In addition, the Chapter will launch a support group for people in the early
stages that will complement the current Living with Alzheimer’s Disease: Early
Stage Strategy Group.
Alzheimer’s, Alzheimer’s
disease is a very personal
matter to Mindy Ross.
Her grandmother, Betty Giehls,
died from Alzheimer’s disease in
December 2010, just two months
after her husband of 52 years, Ralph,
passed away. He was her primary
caregiver for nearly 8 years when
the couple lived in Arizona. When
Betty's Marbles at last year's Walk.
she eventually required nursing home
care, he visited her on a daily basis, often several times a day.
“My grandmother always joked about losing her marbles. We told her that we
were her marbles and that she would never lose us,” said Ms. Ross. “When we started
this team, we thought the play on words made a lot of sense.”
Our Mission
To eliminate Alzheimer’s disease through
the advancement of research; to provide and
enhance care and support for all affected; and
to reduce the risk of dementia through the
promotion of brain health.
Various programs and services
are funded in part by the Ohio
Department of Aging through the
Council on Aging of Southwestern
Ohio and the Area Agency on
Aging District 7.
A Word About Us
Our Reasons to Hope
et’s get right to it. The
disease and the numbers are
devastating.
Alzheimer’s and related dementias
steal memory, judgment, identity
– ultimately robbing those affected
of the ability to speak, walk and
perform even the simplest tasks.
The sixth leading killer in the
U.S. – one in eight are at risk –
Alzheimer’s is the only disease of
the top 10 for which there is no cure or prevention. And
with 79-million baby boomers turning 65 at the rate of
10,000 a day for the next 18 years,
the epidemic nature of this disease
is undeniable – and heartbreaking
– physically, emotionally and
financially.
It is in the midst of this
perfect storm that Alzheimer’s is
stepping out of the shadows onto
the national stage.
Thanks to the relentless drive
and on-going support of Alzheimer’s
Association advocates like you, the
first National Alzheimer’s Plan was
released May 15. In June, the Senate
Appropriations Committee created
a bill to fund federal health programs, many related to
Alzheimer’s in accordance with the recommendations of the
national plan.
We are capturing the attention of world leaders and
decision-makers.
At the Alzheimer's Association’s 2012 Advocacy Forum
dinner held in Washington, D.C., April 24, more than 900
advocates, congresspersons and corporate leaders gave a long
and loud standing ovation to Pat Summitt, Head Coach
Emeritus of University of Tennessee, and her son, Tyler when
they received the “Profiles in Dignity Award” from Maria
Shriver. Meredith Vieira hosted the event and actress Jane
Seymour participated as well.
That night Coach Summitt said, “When the doctors
told me about this diagnosis, I told them, ‘You don’t know
me. I have more than a little bit of fight in me.’”
Then the coach gave the audience that steely blue-eyed
gaze only she can give and said, “People don’t care how much
you know, until they know how much you care. We will win.
We will fight until we beat this disease.’”
The next day, 800 Alzheimer's Association advocates
stormed Capitol Hill. We told our stories and shared the
urgent need for action now. It was an amazing experience,
and one that won’t stop until this disease is over.
Just a few decades ago cancer was a death sentence, and
those with heart disease had few options. Today, treatments
and preventive interventions for those diseases exist. In the
1980s, when our country made a commitment to fight HIV
AIDS, it took about 10 years of dedicated investment to create
the therapies which have made that disease manageable.
Paula with Alzheimer's Champion and actress/designer
Jane Seymour during the Public Policy Forum
gala dinner in Washington, D.C.
Now it’s our turn.
Our chapter is focused on helping those with dementia
now while supporting research to end this disease. As you’ll
read in this edition of Cornerstone, we are introducing
exciting new programming for those in the early stages of the
Alzheimer’s, including a unique program that provides time
for caregivers.
After record-setting events so far this year like The Art
of Making Memories and our AlzStars who ran the Flying
Pig Marathon, we look forward to five great Walks to End
Alzheimer’s in September and October – we hope you’ve
registered and are recruiting your team.
And our Summer Symposium and Day for Caregivers
are back, focused on wellness in the
face of dementia. Also in August,
we welcome three new members to
our board – Kevin Edmonds, Mary
Ann Jacobs and Jason O’Dell. These
leaders will join our world-class
board of directors, who continue to
make our chapter a national leader.
So while this journey is among
the toughest we’ll ever make – there
are many reasons to hope. Chief
among them are you and other
advocates – hundreds of thousands
strong – with the drive, passion and
determination to achieve a world
without Alzheimer’s.
Because for those with the disease today, and for those
whose futures we protect, failure is not an option. And,
because, in the words of Coach Summitt, “We have more
than a little bit of fight in us.”
World Alzheimer's
Month
In September, the Alzheimer's Association will
observe the second annual World Alzheimer's Month,
with a focus on Alzheimer's Action Day (formerly
known as World Alzheimer's Day) on Friday, Sept.
21. The Association will continue its efforts to reach
beyond our current constituents to motivate the
mainstream public to embrace the cause and "Go
Purple to End Alzheimer's."
lzheimer’s disease and the caregiving experience take
a toll on all aspects of life for the diagnosed person
and that person’s primary caregiver. On a daily basis,
people can be challenged mentally, physically, emotionally and
spiritually. Thanks to a special grant, the Greater Cincinnati
Chapter launched a pilot program in March called Time for
Caregivers, which runs as a companion to the Memories in the
Making® program. The new portion of the program allows
caregivers a brief respite from care and helps them experience
By Anne Von Hoene different techniques to enhance their coping skills.
Director of Programs The specific needs we address in the Memories in the
and Services Making® and Time for Caregivers programs are: first, the lack
of meaningful activities available for people with Alzheimer’s
disease, and second, the need to reduce caregiver stress through education, enrichment
activities, fellowship with other caregivers and the option of time away from caregiving.
So, what actually happens in these caregiver sessions? Well, I can try to explain it here,
but my best advice to you is simply to try it and keep an open mind. This program is more
than a creative activity, and it’s more than a support group. The activities have included
journaling, painting, poetry writing, working with clay, and more. You can see a sample of
one participant’s poetry in this issue of Cornerstone. We have found that, through creative
expression, caregivers have the opportunity to work out some of the stress related to care,
and while doing so, they gain the support of other caregivers in the group.
The program is ready to begin its third series of sessions in the fall, with two
locations offered, and we have space available. Both programs are held once a week for
10 weeks, in 90 minute sessions. This program is free of charge, but initial screening
is required and space is limited to about six to eight people per session. Please contact
Consider Taking a Little ‘Time for Caregivers’
A What is Memories in the Making?
Memories in the Making®
(Memories) is an interactive program
designed for persons in the early to middle
stages of Alzheimer’s disease, or another
form of dementia, that encourages selfexpression
through the creative arts. In
this program, a person with diminished
verbal and organizational skills can
engage in productive interaction with
others via the visual arts, music or writing projects that offer an opportunity
for expression. The program provides meaningful activities and a safe place
for the participants to express themselves when words may have failed them.
Memories is based on the premise that there are no mistakes in creative
expression, and the process of creating art, music or writing is a powerful
means of engaging affected individuals throughout the disease process. These
creative sessions are conducted by trained facilitators with a background
in the arts and knowledge of dementia and its effects on the abilities of
diagnosed individuals.
What is Time for Caregivers?
Time for Caregivers is a separate program for family members of the
diagnosed individuals who participate in the Memories in the Making®
sessions. The goal of Time for Caregivers is to provide stress relief to family
caregivers through supportive interventions, education, activities and time
away from caregiving responsibilities. In this program, caregivers have the
option to participate in a variety of activities focused on health and wellness,
personal enrichment, supportive fellowship and creative expression, or the
caregivers may choose to spend that time engaging in their own pursuits,
such as visiting friends, running errands or having quiet time alone. A social
worker facilitates the caregiver sessions, and other expert facilitators will be
included periodically to present special programming such as meditation,
yoga or other enrichment programs.
Early Stage
Continued from page 1
T
“Time and time again, participants of our Early Stage Group ask if they can
continue to meet with one another in a group setting. This support group will
provide a venue for participants to continue to meet and support one another,” said
Ms. Rentz.
In addition to the Early Stage Strategy group meetings, Mr. Lindblad is also
participating in the Memories in the Making art program.
“I feel I have done well and I want to be challenged to do more,” he said. “Our
children, grandchildren, and friends have been impressed with the paintings I am
doing on my own and with a friend who is a watercolor artist.”
Mrs. Lindblad sees other benefits from the Memories program.
“The Memories program has provided an encouraging, safe space for both
of us to explore new creative options independently while learning more about
the disease and ourselves,” she said. “Norm also has a heightened appreciation
for artwork that makes attending art shows and visiting museums a much richer
experience than ever before. They are very special times for us.”
As part of the Early Stage programming, the Chapter offers Early Stage
Consultation that focuses on coping with and learning about the diagnosis of
Alzheimer’s. The individual with the diagnosis and his/her care partner will be able
to discuss feelings of loss and grief while also discussing future care preferences. The
Chapter will also offer a broad range of opportunities for social engagement (visits
to museums, parks, and recreation activities) and volunteer opportunities.
This Morning I Poured My Cereal
Into Taylor’s Cocoa Mug!
This morning I poured my cereal
right into Taylor’s cocoa mug!
Have I joined the addled unmindful ones?
Distracted? Demented? Dislodged from serene flowing competence?
My anxious head swirls with condemning,
constricting, unkind words and thoughts.
Is this a start, a warning?
Is it the first sign on some slippery slope
to irrelevance and uselessness?
All those words I’m careful not to use these days come pouring out.
I work hard to avoid them so as not to hurt or limit,
or give in to hope robbing pigeonholes of shame
and a death sentence for our “normal” life.
Yet there they are - the words that hurt, limit, rob and shame!
STOP the words! STOP the thoughts!
STOP the rushing panic! Breathe!
Don’t rob me of the humor and the “I’m human too” discovery!
Let me empathize with Norm and all of us on this mushy journey.
For goodness sake, I can admit I goofed
and lift a cocoa mug to toast another breakthrough moment!
Research News
Studies Show Role Sleep, Exercise Have on Cognitive Health
A
series of studies reported at the 2012 Alzheimer's
Association International Conference
(AAIC®) in Vancouver July 14-19
suggests a relationship between sleep quality and
quantity and the risk of cognitive decline, and
that interventions to normalize sleep duration
and correct sleep disorders may not only improve
quality of life, but have potential to reduce or prevent cognitive decline.
In addition, several studies described the ability of targeted exercise training to promote
improved mental functioning and reduce the risk for cognitive impairment and
dementia in cognitively healthy older adults and those with mild cognitive impairment
(MCI).
"We know that sleep patterns change as people age and that poor sleep affects overall
health. What we don't know for certain is whether poor sleep has long-term consequences
on cognitive function," said William Thies, Ph.D., Alzheimer's Association
chief medical and scientific officer. "The studies presented at AAIC suggest that cognitive
health declines over the long term in some people with sleep problems.”
Growing evidence suggests that sleep duration that is shorter or longer than the
recommended seven hours per day may increase risk of cardiovascular disease and type 2
diabetes. However, little research has been conducted examining whether sleep duration
influences cognition among older individuals.
Elizabeth Devore, ScD, of Brigham and Women's Hospital, Boston, and colleagues
examined data for more than 15,000 participants in the Nurses' Health Study. All were
age 70 or older at their first cognitive examination between 1995 and 2000. The scientists
found that:
• Participants who slept five hours per day or less had lower average
cognition than those who slept seven hours per day.
• Those who slept nine hours per day or more also had lower average
cognition than those who slept seven hours per day
• Too little or too much sleep was cognitively equivalent to aging
by two years.
When the researchers evaluated the effects of change in sleep duration from mid- to
later- life, they observed that women whose sleep changed by two hours per day or more
had worse cognitive function than those with no change in sleep duration, independent
of their initial sleep duration.
"Our findings support the notion that extreme sleep durations and changes in sleep
duration over time may contribute to cognitive decline and early Alzheimer's changes in
older adults," Devore said.
To better understand the potential relationship between sleep and cognitive decline,
Dr. Claudine Berr of INSERM in Montpellier, France, and colleagues examined data
from the French Three-City Study, an ongoing, long-term, multisite study of the relationship
between vascular disease and dementia in community-dwelling individuals age
65 or older. Cognitive data were obtained at baseline and at two, four, and eight years'
follow-up.
Researchers analyzed data from 4,894 nondemented study participants who had
completed sleep questionnaires. Cognitive decline was defined as a decrease of four or
more points on the MMSE at the three follow-up points. They found that excessive
daytime sleepiness, which was reported by 17.9 percent of participants, independently
increased risk of cognitive decline. In contrast, difficulty maintaining sleep, reported by
63.5 percent of participants, was negatively associated with risk of cognitive decline.
"These results suggest that excessive daytime sleepiness may be an early predictor
of cognitive decline and that sleep complaints should be adequately evaluated in older
W
illiam Thies, Ph.D., Chief Medical & Scientific Officer for the
Alzheimer’s Association, visited Cincinnati for a day of presentations
and meetings on April 18.
In addition to a research
presentation to physicians
and researchers at the University
of Cincinnati College
of Medicine, Dr. Thies
conducted interviews with
local media as well as met
with select client families
of the Greater Cincinnati
Chapter.
Later that evening, Dr.
Thies gave a presentation
on the latest in Alzheimer’s
research to at the Kenwood
Country Club. A total of
more than 250 people attended
the day's programs.
persons," said Dr. Berr.
In regards to physical activity and its effect on cognitive skills, the reports from six
and 12-month randomized controlled clinical trials, depict the beneficial effects of different
types of exercise – resistance training, aerobic training, and balance-stretching training
– on a variety of cognitive abilities.
"Currently, the strongest data for lifestyle-based Alzheimer's risk reduction is for
physical activity, yet this data is generally observational and considered preliminary," said
Dr. Thies. "These new intervention studies are taking place over longer periods of time to
begin to clarify exactly which types of physical activity are most effective.”
It is generally accepted that regular physical activity is essential to healthy aging. It
also may prove to be a strategy to delay or prevent the onset of cognitive impairment and
dementia.
"There is growing interest in lifestyle factors and interventions that enhance the cognitive
vitality of older adults. However, very little is understood regarding the molecular
processes that contribute to enhanced brain health with exercise, or the impact that greater
brain volume has on cognitive function," said Kirk Erickson of the University of Pittsburgh.
Dr. Erickson and his colleagues randomly selected 120 older adults without dementia
who have been sedentary for the previous six months to a moderate intensity walking
group or a stretching-toning group for one year. MRI was used to measure the size of a
brain region associated with memory, known as the hippocampus, both before and after
the exercise intervention. Blood was drawn to measure concentrations of brain-derived
neurotrophic factor (BDNF), and a cognitive testing battery was conducted before and
after the intervention.
The researchers found that, in this study group, one year of exercise training increased
the size of the hippocampus by two percent (2%) in the walking group compared to
the stretching-toning group (significant shrinking of the hippocampus is characteristic
of Alzheimer's disease.) The increase in hippocampal volume was correlated with similar
changes in BDNF.
Exercise and regular physical activity may prove to be promising intervention strategies
to postpone or prevent Alzheimer's dementia, but perhaps not all types of training are
equally effective, say researchers.
Compared with the balance and tone group, the resistance training group in one
Canadian study significantly improved performance on the Stroop Test, which measures
selective attention and conflict resolution, and a memory task. Resistance training also led
to functional changes in three brain regions involved in memory. In contrast, the aerobic
training group did not show similar improvements.
"MCI is a critical window to intervene against dementia," said Dr. Liu-Ambrose.
"We found that twice-weekly resistance training is a promising strategy to alter the trajectory
of cognitive decline in seniors with MCI."
More than 4,000 professionals in the field of Alzheimer’s research representing 60
countries attended the conference. For additional information on other research studies
Following My Heart Has
A
2012 Walk to End Alzheimer's Schedule
Silver
lthough four months have already flown by since
I arrived at this dynamic organization, this is
my first “Cornerstone opportunity” to introduce
myself. As I’ve thought about what to say, I have a deep
desire to speak directly to every single person reading
this – to every passionate, important, special person who
makes up the community of the Alzheimer’s Association
- to you!
My thoughts keep drifting to the lyrics of a
Christopher Williams song, “Step inside my heart but
walk gently; I know you’ve come a long way. Step inside
my heart, cause we need to be together; If we’re going to
make it through these days.”
For years I’ve talked about my heart’s desire to work in the field of aging.
From my upbringing in Oregon, Ohio; to college days at Xavier; to volunteer
service in Anchorage; and work in Portland, Oregon; to graduate school in Ann
Arbor; and finally to where I am now…that desire has never waned. It’s not
surprising to me that just as Brigid Mercer was embarking on the next step of
her life, I landed here – a place where I can finally put my whole self into my
work – my calling. I’ve come a long way and many have molded my heart to be
prepared for this time and for this place.
As I meet volunteers and board members, donors and walkers, I notice that
we are together in this fight – and that, my friends, moves me deeply. We have
all traveled a long way and I am grateful for the ways you are welcoming me with
an open heart. I firmly believe we need to be together as we fight this disease and
as we support one another in our journeys. Please call on me any time.
And to you, I extend the invitation to walk, to share your story, to give
generously, to volunteer, and to think of new ways you can be together with us,
and so many others, as we travel toward our mission this year.
FOR CHARITY
Benefiting Alzheimer’s
Last year, Ms. Ross was
one of the top individual
fundraisers at the Cincinnati/
Northern Kentucky Walk,
raising more than $3,300.
Along with her husband, Dave,
she will lead her 20-member
family team again this year.
“It is sometimes difficult
to feel that you can make a
difference with an issue as large
as Alzheimer’s but with the
Betty and Ralph Giehls
Walks you feel like every dollar
can help,” she said. “It is nice to share the experience as a family.”
After moving from Newport, Ky. to Landon, Ohio, last fall, the Ross family
will focus their efforts on the Butler, Warren & Clinton Counties Walk to End
Alzheimer’s in West Chester on Sept. 15. This will be the family’s third Walk venue.
“My Paps used to take Grams to the Alzheimer’s Walks in Tucson and he used
the Association’s services there,” said Ms. Ross. “For us here, it is rewarding to do
something positive to remember my grandparents and the love they had for one
another.”
As the primary national fundraiser for the Alzheimer’s Association, Walk to
End Alzheimer’s is an annual event that brings the community together in a show
of remembrance and support for those affected by Alzheimer’s disease. Proceeds
from the event will directly fund programs and services of the Greater Cincinnati
Chapter as well as national research efforts.
“We were overwhelmed by the generosity of teams like Betty’s Marbles,” said
Development Director Krista Powers. “It is our hope that people will again actively
support the walk in their community because the need continues to grow.”
golf outing benefiting the Alzheimer’s
Association of Greater Cincinnati. Despite
golfers enticed by event organizer, David
raised more than $837.
Unfortunately, the thermometer kept rising and the sister event at Grand
Alzheimer’s Plan Rises Above Political Rhetoric
W
hile the upcoming presidential election will
dominate our nation’s political discussion over the
next several months, the Alzheimer’s Association
continues to make sure that Alzheimer’s disease remains an
issue of importance for legislators.
When I attended the Alzheimer’s Association’s National
Advocacy Forum in Washington, D.C. in April, I was
struck not only by the size of the event, but the enthusiasm
and optimism exhibited by those attending. A record 800
advocates, including more than 200 “first-timers,” attended
the three-day event.
When we traveled to Capitol Hill to visit with members
of Congress on the final day of the forum, it was impossible
to miss our advocates and their purple sashes. While
our individual stories were different, everyone had the
same request of their respective members of Congress – support for the National
Alzheimer’s Plan.
Shortly after the Forum, the National Alzheimer’s Plan was formally released in
May. While the National Plan supports the full spectrum of what those living with
Alzheimer’s need every day: more education, improved care and community support
and effective treatments, it also identified five specific goals, including:
• Prevent and effectively treat Alzheimer’s by 2025:
This encompasses new resources that the Obama Administration
announced in February, including $50 million that was immediately
available and a proposed $80 million for research in the President’s 2013
budget request.
• Optimize care quality and efficiency:
This specific element includes a $6 million investment over two years in
provider education and outreach for physicians.
Advocates in Action
A
lzheimer’s advocates were busy promoting priority elements of the
National Alzheimer’s Plan to federal and state legislators this spring.
Advocacy Forum in Washington, April 23-25. Middle photo: Ann Bryant,
Public Policy/Chapter News
• Expand support for people with the disease and their caregivers:
This includes a proposed investment of $10.5 million to support the
needs of caregivers.
• Enhance public awareness and engagement:
This includes several public awareness initiatives starting this year,
including the launch of a new government Website: alzheimers.gov.
• Track progress and drive improvement:
This goal includes a proposed investment of more than $1 million for
data collection, which could help to foster an environment of
information sharing and increased understanding about the impact of the
disease on families and the nation’s health care system.
To build upon the success of the National Alzheimer’s Plan, the Association will
conduct a series of Town Hall meetings in August and September. The purpose of the
meetings will be to highlight local chapter activities and programs, discuss the National
Alzheimer’s Plan and allow the public to provide input.
In addition to supporting these important federal initiatives, the Greater
Cincinnati Chapter works closely with our sister chapters in Ohio and Kentucky on
a variety of state advocacy projects and activities, including the annual Alzheimer’s
Advocacy Day in Kentucky and the Ohio Memory Day in Columbus. These events
provide Alzheimer advocates an opportunity to meet with state legislators to discuss
their concerns regarding Alzheimer’s disease and its impact on their state.
Whether it’s in Washington, D.C., Columbus or Frankfort, Alzheimer advocates
are speaking in a loud and clear voice to their legislators.
As an Association we continue to build a stronger and better informed network
of advocates - both locally and nationally. But if we are to truly succeed in our mission
of advocacy on behalf of the millions of families touched by this disease today and the
many more to follow; our base of advocates must continue to grow. Today, more than
ever, your voice needs to be heard.
It Has Been a Privilege
would thank you from the
bottom of my heart, but for
you my heart has no bottom.”
- Anonymous
By Marcy Hawkins
As I finish my journey at the
Alzheimer’s Association and travel
back to my Indiana hometown, I
Marcy and her family
cannot even begin to express how
grateful and honored I am to have had this wonderful opportunity to serve you and work
beside you on this very important mission. For nearly seven years, you have shared your
personal stories and allowed me to walk with you through the good times and bad. So
many of you have become like family to me.
Your friendship, passion, dedication and determination are things I’ll take with me
as I start my next journey. But, I would be greatly remiss to not take a moment to thank
you for:
• Continually spreading awareness of Alzheimer’s and the Chapter’s programs and
services to everyone you meet
• Taking on the challenge of team captain, team member or individual who fundraises
for the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association
• Serving on any special events planning committee or volunteering the day of an
event, ensuring that all details are secured for a most successful outcome
• Moving Walk to End Alzheimer’s to the next level (raising more than $508,000
last year)
As Walk season gets closer and closer, I urge you to get involved now. Register as an
individual or as a team today by visiting alz.org/cincinnati and start raising money today.
You can also join a planning committee or serve as a volunteer on the day of the Walk.
Whatever it is you do during Walk season – do it with passion and commitment for those
who are living with this disease and those caring for them every day. The mission demands
more from all of us! Please, keep pushing forward...keep fundraising through Walk...
keep spreading the word about Alzheimer’s disease and that the Alzheimer’s Association of
Greater Cincinnati is here to help.
Please contact the Development team at (513) 721-4284 for all of your events and
fundraising needs. They are here and ready to help you in any way they can to make this
the best Walk season yet!
My deepest gratitude to all of you.
