The Hobbit:
An unexpected Journey

For everyone who gave up on getting through
J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy and
settled for reading the much shorter The Hobbit,
your time has come.
Martin Freeman (Shaun of the Dead) stars as
Bilbo Baggins, the titular hobbit who accompanies
a group of dwarves on a mission to reclaim their
land. But for those thinking “Martin who?” fear not,
many of your LotR faves are back, including
Elijah Wood as Frodo and Ian Holm as the old
Bilbo. how is this possible in a prequel that takes
place before Frodo was born? Tolkien wrote that
Bilbo’s story is chronicled in the “red Book of
Westmarch,” so director Peter Jackson frames the
story by having old Bilbo give Frodo the book.
Other returning LotR cast include Hugo Weaving,
Orlando Bloom, Cate Blanchett, Christopher Lee,
Andy Serkis and, of course, Ian McKellen as
Gandalf. and lest ye fear this is the final trip
to Middle-earth for Jackson et al., Part Two,
There and Back Again, comes out December 2013.
