The Legend of Hambye
As the legend goes...... the Seigneur in Normandy heard of this dragon and set off to fight him.
Not much is known about the battle, except that the knight attacked and killed the dragon,
single-handedly, and cut off its head. Exhausted and wounded, he lay down to rest, whilst his
squire guarded him. But his squire was disloyal and wanted the glory for himself. He killed
his master and buried the body, before
returning to Hambye. Once there, he told
his masters wife that the dragon had killed
the Seigneur, but that he, the squire, had
avenged his death and killed the dragon. As
well as this, he added that the Seigneur’s
dying wish was that the squire should
marry his wife. But one night, while they
lay in bed, the squire cried out in his sleep,
and admitted to killing his master. The lady
immediately had him brought to trial; the
squire confessed and was sentenced to
death. The lady then travelled to Jersey,
and in St Saviour a mound was raised in
memory of the Seigneur – La Hougue de
Hambye (La Hougue Bie).
The relevance in house names?
With the colourful legendary historic link to Hambye in Normandy we couldn’t let the
opportunity pass and thought that it was applicable that we selected place names from a radius
of 25km of Hambye and applied them to each individual house; we hope you like the names.
A Great Location to Own a Luxury Home
Situated in the picturesque St Saviour countryside these
three charming closes, Le Clos du Hambye, Le Hameau
Des Ecorvées and Clos De La Hallebarde are located in
an idyllic rural position yet within close proximity of all
amenities for modern day living.
Located only 3 miles from the bustling town of St Helier
and minutes from Gorey village there are few locations
supplying the best of both worlds to satisfy a wide and
varied range of tastes and lifestyles. Extensive leisure
pursuits and facilities are all within very close proximity,
including the Royal Jersey Golf Club at Grouville, the
Queen’s Valley Reservoir and of course Grouville beach
offering a safe haven for family fun.
Being so closely linked to St Helier there is a comprehensive
mix of shopping facilities with a number of schools and
colleges within easy striking distance including Saint
Michael’s, Victoria College, De La Salle College, FCJ, Bealieu Convent School, Jersey College for
Girls, Hautlieu and Highlands College to cover all needs and abilities.
Located within a small hamlet of its own, La Hougue Bie exudes individuality and quality with
each property containing fine architectural detail, both internally and externally, to fit perfectly and
seemlessly within its historic Island surroundings - it really does provide the “best of both worlds for
modern day living”.
