drum Corps <strong>in</strong>ternational returns <strong>to</strong> the<br />
Berry Center <strong>this</strong> summer as part of its<br />
<strong>to</strong>ur de Champions series. the show<br />
is presented by the exsiGhtment oF<br />
souNd, which features the <strong>to</strong>p eight<br />
corps from last year that perform preshow<br />
and <strong>in</strong>termission enterta<strong>in</strong>ment,<br />
fan <strong>in</strong>teraction and an en-masse f<strong>in</strong>ale.<br />
each group consists of up <strong>to</strong> 150<br />
brass musicians, percussionists and<br />
dancers perform<strong>in</strong>g formations and<br />
choreography <strong>to</strong> classical, jazz, rock<br />
and pop musical arrangements. dur<strong>in</strong>g<br />
their summer <strong>to</strong>ur<strong>in</strong>g season, these <strong>to</strong>pranked<br />
groups travel more than 10,000<br />
miles around the country.<br />
For more than 30 years, dCi has<br />
operated as a non-profit organization<br />
for youth, ages 14-22. each year, the<br />
dCi <strong>to</strong>ur allows mem<strong>be</strong>rs <strong>to</strong> participate<br />
<strong>in</strong> hundreds of events <strong>in</strong> 17 cities<br />
throughout the country and compete <strong>in</strong><br />
35 worldwide championships.<br />
Nearly three-quarters of the corps are<br />
made up of college students, and about<br />
8,000 <strong>in</strong>dividuals audition annually. dCi<br />
