married David Kelley last fall. Her daughter,
Maggie, is 12.
Julie Moore, '87, Olympia, married
Brady Anderson '89, and they have both
retired from social work. Julie is doing fabric art

Richard Rodrigues, Jr., '87, Eugene, OR,
is a program associate for the McKenzie River

where he is starting the progressive social
change organization's technology grantwriting
program for organizers in Oregon.
Scott Roy Saunders, '87, Olympia,
facilitates rhythm and drumming groups. He
received his M.A. in human development from
Pacific Oaks.
Sally Triebs Waite, '87, Friday Harbor, and
Gordy work and volunteer in the Friday Harbor
School District. They have a daughter, 10, and
a son, 7. They are sailing and gardening away.
Kathleen Anderson, '88, Shelton, teaches
fifth and sixth grade.
Tracy Anderson, '88, Seattle, studies
furniture design at Cornish College of the Arts.
She has a furniture and home accessories store
in Seattle called MIA VEP. She is the parent of
Ava, her 2-year-old daughter.
Denise Crowe and Bret Lunsford '88,
Anacortes, own a music and bookstore called
The Business. Denise works as a naturalist in
the Anacortes Wilderness. They are doing work
on a music label, No Know Your Own, and
publish a daily newspaper, anacortesonline.com.
Richard Dorsett, '88, Tacoma, is the
executive director of the Washington State
Association of Area Agencies on Aging. He also
just completed production of a second CD of
Jordanian folk music.
Jerry Fugich, '88, Yelm, works as a site
supervisor with Habitat For Humanity and owns
a company called The Watchmaker's Shop.
Christine Goodale, '88, Vashon, lives with
her husband and 3-year-old daughter. She is
a Waldorf teacher and a runs a nursery school
in her home.

Ursula Shea-Borneo, '88, Shutesbury,
and her husband, Paul Borneo, recently bought
their first home and are raising their 3-year-old
daughter.
Russell Bennett-Cumming, '89, Olympia,
is a Spanish teacher and world language
department chair for Capital High School.
Pam Bennett-Cumming '88 is an
environmental planner for Mason County.
Valerie Manion Courtney, '89, Seattle,
and John Courtney had a son, Kevin Richard,
last December.
Bruce Elzinga, '89, Seattle, received
his master of education degree and is
student teaching.
Sheila Freehill, '89, Boulder, CO, earned
a master's in bilingual education from Pacific
Oaks College. She lived in Costa Rica to learn
Spanish, and works as an English as a Second
Language and reading teacher at Longspeak
Middle School.
Dianna Holden, '89, Longview, works as
a chemist.
William Kaniuka, '89, Farmington Falls, ME,
works for Evergreen Outfit Services.
He received a master's degree in theological
studies from Bangor Theological Seminary
and is finishing his second master's degree
in counseling at Antioch New England
Graduate School.
Doug Mercer, '89, Seattle, teaches
geography and environmental health at the
University of Washington.
Miguel Perez-Gibson, '89, Olympia,
is a senior research analyst for the House
of Representatives Democratic Caucus.
Rena Rea, '89, Sumner, works for the
Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department as
a substance abuse counselor. She is also
working on her second master's, this one
in teaching, from Antioch University.
Kelly Quilici, '89, Ashland, Wl, is doing odds
and ends work for the Black Cat Coffee House.
She still writes and does photography along
with her music. Her son Dyami is 19 and 6'4".
Veronica Maria Tomasic, '89, Hamden,
CT, received a Ph.D in American Studies
from Yale University. Her dissertation is titled
To Their Own Rooms: Representations of the
Inner Life in an Age of Transition, Late Thirties
to Early Fifties.At the same time, she received
a law degree from Quinnipiac University and
was admitted to the Connecticut Bar Association
last fall. She currently works as a lawyer for the
state and is preparing her dissertation for
publication. Veronica lives with her son,
Clement, 15, and husband, Ingram Marshall,
who taught at Evergreen from 1985 to 1989.
Jennifer Whitewing (Unterseher), '89,
Leavenworth, is a licensed massage practitioner
at Simple Kneads Massage Therapy at the Best
Western Icicle Inn, as well as a phone operator
at the Sleeping Lady Mountain Retreat. She lives
with her grandparents, husband and son in a
cooperative, extended family household, and
writes books for children that she hopes to get
published. Jen joined the Baha'i' Faith and prays
for world peace and global unity.
William Gordon Wolf (Mahler), '89,
PortTownsend, practices naturopathic medicine
and acupuncture, and is the proud father of a
5-year-old.
Shelley Arenas, '90, Lake Forest Park,
founded a nonprofit organization to help parents
in the Northwest (www.parentcafe.org). She
co-authored a book called The Lobster Kids
Guide to Seattle.
Sue Blair (Boyer), '90, Newport, writes
reading instruction training material for the
California Professional Development Institute.
She commutes to California regularly to train
and work with public school teachers.
Micah Bowers '90 and Andrea '91, Seattle,
had twin sons, Connor and Gavin, last spring.
Micah also started Bluefire Production, which
specializes in video, DVD and interactive
television production.
Linda Boyle, '90, Eagle, ID, is a water quality
science officer for the state.
Marilyn Brisbane, '90, Olympia, started
a nonprofit adoption agency, IBSEN Adoption
Network, that raises funds to help with the
adoption of special needs children, and to
provide them with emotional and financial

Lucretia Krebs, '90, Woodland, is
a licensed clinical psychologist.
Sherry Lynch, '90, La Center, teaches at the
Iconography Institute in Portland. Her class just
finished a four-foot-wide by three-foot-tall icon,
which is installed in a Portland church in memory
of World Trade Center victims.
Jo Anshutz, '91, Woodland, is superintendent
of the Vader School District.
Susan James, '91, Carson, works as a
biology teacher at Stevenson High School.
Duffie Johnson, '91, Portland, OR, joined
Reed College as the annual fund director.
Hank Lentfer, '91, Gustavus, AK, edited the
book Arctic Refuge: A Circle of Testimony with
Carolyn Servid. He has traveled the country
speaking and raising awareness about the
Alaskan refuge.
Nita Mehnert, '91, Spring Hill, FL, won
first place in the Annual Black and White Show
in Tampa.
Elizabeth Miller, '91, Comstock Park, Ml,
would like to say, "Hi from snowy Michigan" to
Mary Deraitus.
Stephen Nicholson, '91, Walla Walla, owns
a car dealership.
Bruce Siqueland, and Tani Lindquist, '91,
Seattle, have a daughter, Harriet Louise
Siqueland, born last spring.
Kirsten Spainhower, '91, New Haven, CT,
worked in agricultural forestry in the Peace Corps
in Benin, West Africa, 1994-96. She is now
working on a master's degree at the Yale School
of Forestry and Environmental Studies,
specializing in international community forestry.
Kenneth White, '91, Gig Harbor, has grown
a white beard and become the master of the
universe in a non-violent coup.
Joanne Wieser, '91, Elma, has two
daughters who have graduated from Evergreen.
Another daughter is graduating this June.
Steven Yunker, '91, Wenatchee, and his wife,
Susan, have four sons, ages 9, 6, 3 and 8 months.
Bruce Baldwin, '92, Tenino, went back to
school to get teaching credentials and a master
in teaching, and is now substitue teaching high
school biology.
Thomas Begnal, '92, Okanogan, is an office
manager for a farm that has the largest garlic
collection in North America, with 150 different
kinds of garlic.
Jennifer Bruner, '91, Seattle, lives with her
new husband, Ben Trissel, in their messy
craftsman home. She works as a software test
engineer at Microsoft and runs marathons to
keep herself sane. Jennifer also collects wine
with her husband, reads obsessively, is
published in several online publications, and
occupies her dwindling free time with too many
pets and not enough sleep.
Matthew Green, '91, Olympia, was elected
to the Olympia City Council for a term that began
in January. Matthew joins Curt Pavola '95
who was re-elected to the council during the
same race.

Jennifer Rosen, '91, and her partner,
Sharon Holley '99, Olympia, announce the
home birth of Noah Benjamin Rosen-Holley last
fall with the help of Around the Circle Midwifery.
Proud and happy grandmom is Betsy Gail
Rosen '92 of Mercer Island. Jena is on leave
from the Olympia Timberland Library as assistant
circulation supervisor. Sharon is employed by the
Washington State Department of Natural
Resources as a tidelands manager.
Glenhelen Smither, '91, Shelton, is
expecting her second baby and making a lot of
ceramic art.
Marnie Valenta, '91, Seattle, works as a
massage therapist and birth doula.
Saed Hindash, '92, is a photographer at
the Star-Ledger in Newark, NJ. Saed was the
co-recipient of a $10,000 award for excellence in
reporting on victims of violence by the University
of Washington School of Communications
Journalism & Trauma Program. The article took
Saed to Siberia to do a story about a boy
adopted by a New Jersey couple only to die
from their abuse.
Ethan Delavan, '93, Seattle, teaches drama
and video. He is also making a documentary
about recovering from boyhood sexual abuse,
which he hopes will air on public television.

Patrick Gillan, '93, Broaddus, TX, retired and
went on a road trip from Texas to Fairbanks,
Alaska, with a stop in Seattle.
Nelson Hallgren, '93, Seattle, was the video
editor for an award-winning documentary about
Dale Chihuly's glasswork.
Bruce Haveri, '93, Kealakekua, HI, says that
after almost 10 years in the field as a wildlife
biologist, he changed his life and career and
enrolled in the Hawaiian Islands School of Body
Therapy. Some time in 2003 he'll be a licensed
massage therapist.
Monique Jordan, '93, Tacoma, formed a
nonprofit organization called Family Restoration
and Empowerment Enterprises, which does crisis
counseling, IEP meetings, school counseling and
interventions.
Margot Kimball, '93, Concord, MA., has
three children, Claire, 6, Adele, 4, and Iris, 2.
Samantha Nelson, '93, Ellensburg, and her
husband have a son, Michael.
Gwen Orwiler, '93, Sumner, works in real

Jay Shumway, '93, Tucson, AZ, teaches
physics at a charter high school in Tucson.
Yee Thao (Steve), '93, Saint Paul, MN, is
now known as Steve so that his name, its history
and proper pronunciation won't be a major topic
of discussion every time he meets someone new
or calls to order pizza. Steve has been the
publisher of a small Asian newpaper, a webmaster,
a concert promoter and a television
producer. He is working on a PBS documentary
about South Asian men in prison. His next
project is an Asian fairytale about love, dragons,
bad acne and difficult choices. He misses having
a real governor, the rain, the buck Bambi that
lived behind the Evergreen parking lot and the
great Evergreen gymnasium that was used by
about a dozen people during his stay in Olympia.
Erwin Vidallon, '93, Lacey, has been
married for eight years, has three kids and is
working as a chief financial officer for Western
State Hospital.

; • At Evergreen, I began a life of self-directed study and work and, as a result, was able to create
an extremely rewarding career in contemporary music. I enjoy a rich life of private teaching,
composing, recording, session work and performing. I especially value my ability to positively
ire them to develop self-discipline and to pursue music and the arts with persistence and passion.
