Sierra Vista Public Library: They’ll beg, borrow for you

The Sierra Vista Public Library has a collection
of approximately 100,000 books developed
over the years.
That may sound like a lot of books, but in spite
of the best efforts of the librarians, no library has
every book people request. So, libraries depend
on interlibrary loans to provide customers access
to more books.
The SVPL has a database that includes
179,000,000 books and other library materials
in over 400 languages. At customer request, the
library staff asks another library to send SVPL
a particular title and once received, the library
staff notifies the customer.
Interlibrary loans are free and are a way to get
a book the SVPL doesn’t own. It usually takes a
week to 10 days to receive a book.
Library customers can also borrow books and

There are two ways to request books and other
materials from other public libraries in Cochise
County.
One is through the online catalog. Select the
“details” link next to the title you wish to request.
Select “place hold” on the next screen and
enter your library card number and four-digit
personal identification number.
Those who don’t have a PIN should ask library
staff to assign one on the next visit. After placing
the request, check your account periodically to
see if the item has arrived at our library.
Customers can also complete a paper postcard
request form at the library. The staff will send
this postcard to customers via U.S. mail when
the material is ready to be picked up.
Customers should bring library cards with
them to check out the material. Let the library
staff help you find what you need.
