Problem:
The project was to undertake a full refurbishment of a series of
residential properties within London. The concrete structures
were in a dilapidated state and were subsequently repaired with
a variety of concrete repair materials. After repairs had been
carried out a coating was applied to complete and project the
repairs.
Action:
Cemprime ZN a Zinc rich primer was applied to the exposed
metal after the area of repair had been thoroughly cleaned.
Cembuild LW25 a lightwright High-build hand applied mortar
was then placed in the respective areas. Cembuild FC, a high
quality fairing coat was applied to the repaired area to smooth
of the fi nish prior to the protective coatings. Ultracrete FP-1 a
cementitious patching compound was applied to the damaged
stair housings in order to limit disruption to residents and
provide strong, long lasting repair prior to further decorative
coverings. Cemcoat SW a solvent based anti carbonation
coating was used for the underside coating in place of
Cemcoat ACE, to stop blistering should water ingress
occue. Cemcoat ACE an acrylic based elastomeric coating was
applied to repaires. This forms a protective layer against UV,
weather and CO 2 and due to high access costs, Cemcoat ACE
provided a cost effective longt-term solution.
Results:
The tenants committee endorsed the success fo concrete
repairs and the sub-contractor Repex found the materials easy
to use and of high quality. This is part of an ongoing project in
this area, with CEMTEC materials are still being used for on all
applications.
