President’s Note:
In the 2005-06 Balavihar session that just ended, we accomplished a great many things.
1. We paid off the mortgage and are completely debt-f ree f or the first time in the history of Saaket. Thanks are due to the
consistent support by our CMDFW member community.
2. To address the growth in Balav ihar, we started a satellite center in Coppell. This center was successf ul beyond any one’s
expectations, as within two weeks of starting the session in January 2006, we had to cap it off at 100 students due to space
limitations. We are now looking f or a larger space in Coppell f or the f all 2006 session.
3. 12th grade Balavihar students arranged our second annual Walkathon, where we raised over $1300 dollars for a Plano
charity. This charity receiv ed their check in May 2006.
4. We had an extremely entertaining and well-attended dance & music perf ormance conducted by our dance and music students.
We also had a large class of 12 students graduate from Balav ihar, who are on their way to v arious colleges and universities
around the country. We wish them all success.
In addition, last y ear, our registrations reached a new height. Approximately 600 students registered for Balavihar for the 2005 -
2006 y ear. This kind of success is possible only due to the tremendous support by the Balavihar teachers and Br. Uddhav ji’s
guidance. These teachers have been dedicating numerous hours of personal time to ensure that the program runs smoothly.
Let us hope and pray that the next academic y ear is ev en more successful! We seek Gurudev’s grace and Poojya Guruji’s
blessings in our f orward march.
Wishing everyone a great summer break!
Our mission is to provide individuals, from any background, the wisdom of Vedanta and the practical means for
growth and happiness, enabling them to become positive contributors to society.
Ram Navami Celebrations
R am
Navami is a festival that celebrates the birth of
Lord Rama, the son of King Dasharath. It w as a joyous
occasion in Ayodhya all those centuries ago
when King Dasharath’s heir w as finally born.
The story of Lord Rama as told in the great epic Ramayana is
one that most Indians know irrespective of caste, creed and
religion. Lord Rama is a legendary figure, the epitome of all that
is good and true, the man w ho vanquished the demon king Ravana.
Lord Rama is not just a hero, but has been given the
status of a god by the Hindus. Therefore, it comes as no surprise
that his birth is celebrated year after year w ith great pomp
and enjoy ment on the ninth day after the new moon in Shukla
Chaitra (the w axing moon), w hich falls sometime in the month
of April.
Rama Navami w as celebrated at CMDFW Saaket on Thursday April 6th, 2006. All present
were filled w ith happiness and joy on this auspicious occasion. On this occasion, Sw amiji reminded
us that Sri Ramji w as born, got married and ascended the throne on the same day of
Chaitra Shukla Navami at 12 Noon. He explained the salient features of Shri Rama’s life and
how he led his life as an ideal human being.
Vishnu Sahasranama
This Vishnu Sahasranama stotra, is a garland of the thousand names of Lord Vishnu, strung in
to a beautiful stotra by the legendary Rishi Veda Vyasa. The Vishnu Sahasranama is found in
the great epic Mahabharata. 'Sahasranama' means thousand names, so this is a chant of
thousand names of Lord Vishnu. Through all these names w e get 1000 indirect and indicative
definitions of the unknow n supreme lord in ter ms of the know n. There are exactly 1031 names
of Lord Vishnu in the 'Sahasranama' though w e find some repetitions.

Balavihar Lock- ins
I
n keeping w ith our three year long tradition, w e had three lock-ins this academic year for elementary, middle
and high school Balavihar . The elementary and middle school events ended by 10 PM, but the high school
students w ere given the special opportunity to sleepover at Saaket. These lock-ins are a w onderful way for
the Balavihar students to spend quality time w ith Sw ami-ji and enjoy the camaraderie of their peers.
The elementary school lock-in w as held on December 9th 2005. There w as an overw helming response from elementary
school Balavihar students, as 120 kids registered and attended the lock-in and were ready to bond w ith
each other & Sw amiji. The children performed arati in the temple, had dinner and then w atched the acclaimed
new animated movie, Hanuman w ith Sw amiji. This w as follow ed by a quiz based on the movie and all the participants
w ere awarded ribbons.
The middle school students got together on January 15th 2006, for their Lock-in. After arati, dinner and satsang
with Sw amiji, they proceeded in a caravan of volunteer cars to Adventure Landing w here thirty-seven middle
school Balavihar students w ere able to race cars, play putt-putt golf and laser tag. The cold w eather w as no deterrent
to their enjoy ment.
Then on February 10th 2006, it w as time for the trail-blazing high school students to have their Lock-in. Forty six
high school Balavihar students took a break from their busy schedules to eat pizza, pray, bow l and play laser tag
along w ith Sw amiji at Main Event in Plano. This w as follow ed by a sleepover at Saaket. Most w ere successful in
their deter mination to stay aw ake all night so as not to miss a single moment of the adventure. Sw amiji retired to
his routine at 4:30 AM in the morning and the kids returned home by 7 AM Saturday – no doubt to catch up on
some sleep!
All in all, the consensus among “lock-in”-ers is that Saaket is no longer just a place your parents drag you to on
Sundays – it is the headquarters of FUN – the sattvik kind of course - just as intended by the ever-innovative,
master-mind, Acharya Uddhavji! Thanks to ALL the sevaks & sevikas w ho WORKED tirelessly behind the
scenes to ensure that the adventures proceeded smoothly and safely!
2nd Annual Walk-a-Thon
T
he 2nd annual Walk-a-Thon w as held on Sunday, April 23rd, at Russell Creek Par k. This w as an event
organized by the 12th Grade Balavihar students. All proceeds raised w ent to the Boys & Girls Clubs of
America. This event w as a tremendous success, with over 70 families w alking for a great cause!!
