promotes our volunteers as respectable,
and qualified to look after the
leisure needs of our citizens.
Throughout the screening process,
paramount importance is placed on
the confidentiality of all information
received.
Open sessions will be held January
16, February 25 and April 10 between
18:00-20:00 to provide volunteers
Recreational Programs for
Persons with a Disability
Dorval is a partner with recognized
organizations to assist in services to
persons with a disability.
Along with Altergo, we are partners in
a provincial grant program that helps
to defray the cost of companions who
accompany persons with a disability
in existing local recreational activities.
Application for this grant is submitted
in March.
Another longstanding partnership has
been with the West Island Association
for the Intellectually Handicapped
(WIAIH). Several of our residents
participate in WIAIH’s programs.
WIAIH, in collaboration with the City
of Dorval will be offering an exciting
pilot project for children with developmental
delay or intellectual disorders.
Residents who feel they can benefit
from the companion program or other
services, have comments or suggestions,
or who wish to volunteer are
invited to call us at 514 633-4000.
A new library system was implemented in
order to improve services.
Now you can explore the new on-line catalogue
with enhanced search capabilities;
place your own reservations on documents
and check your library file – all online, from
the comfort of home!
The new system also enables quicker and
more efficient communication with our
clients by e-mail.
See page 25
TREASURES FROM THE RICHELIEU RIVER
February 8 to May 5
The Richelieu River, a historically important waterway linking
Quebec to New york, and a route over which various armies and fleets
passed during the French and Indian War, the American Revolution,
and the War of 1812, has relinquished many of its historical artifacts
and treasures to two divers who have loaned these items to the Dorval
Museum. Come discover what the river has revealed: military badges
and buttons, coins from various eras and countries, personal items
such as shoe buckles, clay pipes, lead dice and gaming pieces, among
other artifacts dating from the 1750s to the mid-1800s.
The Dorval Historical Society is dedicated to the preservation
GENEALOGY ACTIVITY
Wednesday, February 13, 19:30, Dorval Library
Engineer and history buff Jean-Pierre Raymond invites you to discover genealogy.
Everyone has heard about a genealogy tree but few can distinguish an ascendant
genealogy from a descendant genealogy. How does one start, where should
one look, what is one looking for? All of these questions and many more will be
answered by Mr. Raymond.

An artist influenced by Klimt, Schiele
brings her paintings to life in a musical
more by the absurd than normalcy,
On the other hand, as life is full
of absurdity, she also considers herself
a realist artist.
ART ET MUSIqUE LA MANDRAGORE*
Convivencia is coexistence, friendliness.
We use this word to describe
the Andalusian Caliphate of Cordoba,
where, for a brief time, the Jewish and
Christian saracenic cultures lived in
harmony. La Mandragore is on a quest
to find this almost mythical Andalusia.
During the concert, the nay mixes with
the traverso, the ud sings with the cittern,
the darbukas join the palmas and
languages and cultures intermix . Traditional
medieval melodies along with
several compositions.
ear and soul of the listener. A brilliant
and inspired performer, a repertoire
and instrument to discover, make this
concert an aesthetic experience you
will not soon forget.
