(Cool)
This prominent Hunterdon Co. N.J. family originated at 5419 Maxsain (21 km. n.w. of
Hadamar; Chbks. begin 1667; Ref., but gaps). The grandfather of the immigrants was
Johannes Kuhl, Sendschoffe at Zurbach. A 1694 Inhabitant List at Zurbach records
Johannes Kuhl the Sendschoffe, his wife Veronica Lentz (who had d.), had 2 sons and 2
Johann Jacob, conf. in 1695, aged 16 yrs. and md. 30 Nov. 1701 Maria Eva,
(Johann) Paul Kuhl first made his appearance in N.J. records 8 July 1730 when he was
Henry Dilts 21 Jan. 1745 (West Jersey Deed Book G-H, pp. 80+, 289+, 293+, etc.) The
Kuhl was dated 4 May 1783 and proved 20 April 1784 (Hunterdon Co. Will #1238J).
John W. Kuhl of Pittstown, N.J., a researcher on his family for over 30 yrs., has greatly
assisted me in gathering data on the ch. of (Johann) Paul Kuhl and his wife, Eva Maria,
A marvelous discovery in Record Group 343 Sayn-Hachenburg Rechnungen gives
firm proof of the emigration of Johann Christian Kuhl: in detailing the 10th penny
tax paid in 1736 for Bann Maxsain, it was noted that "Peter Kuhl, Johannes Dorn, and
the two sisters at Zorbach bought for 97 Trlr. from her brother Johann Christ Kuhl,
who has moved to America." Another entry in the same 1736 file reports, "Johann
Christ kuhl from Zorbach, still unmarried, (paid) 12 fl." Johann Christian Kuhl
was nat. in N.J. in 1754, as "Christian Kule" (N.J. Nats). The will of Crest Cool
of Amwell Twp., Hunterdon Co., N.J. was dated 10 April 1770 and proved 27 Aug. 1770;
in it, besides his wife and ch., he names his nephews Crest Cool and Paul Cool, Jr.,
as executors (Hunterdon Co. Will #793J, in very poor condition). He md. Eva Maria
Hummerich or Hummer (HJ); she was related to the Johann Wiljelm Homerich noted in
