The Secret Pantomime Society, in
association with the Théâtre Musical de
Pibrac, is proud to present our pantomime
adaptation of ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’.
Welcome to the village of Windy Bottom.
The inhabitants of the village are very
unhappy. The giant who lives up in
Cloudland has taken all their money and
most of their food. His repulsive henchman is making matters worse by terrorising everyone in the
village, including the only animal left, Jack’s cow.
Come along and with your help we’ll see if the people of Windy Bottom can defeat the Giant! So enjoy the
dancing; laugh at the slapstick and jokes; be wowed by the colourful characters and settings; clap along
to the songs; and be sure to boo at the baddie and cheer for the goodies.
As ever, we thank everyone involved in making this show come to life; and a special thanks goes to you,
our audience, for your continued and enthusiastic support. We couldn’t do it without you - “Oh no we
couldn’t!”
Off up the beanstalk we go...
Who would have thought back in 1984 that the SPS would become such an established beacon
and a well-known and loved event in the local community, for Expats and French alike ?
Well, it is and we are very proud of what SPS has achieved; and we want to make sure it continues
to delight and surprise audiences every year. The committee works throughout the whole year to
ensure that SPS is able to put on a show at the end of January. This includes working with the
Théâtre Musical de Pibrac through to ensuring all resources needed are available. The committee
ensure that work is progressing with all aspects of putting on a show.
Overall, the Main Committee role covers all the legal requirements of SPS as a registered 1901
Association in France. The committee members are all volunteers (as is everyone in SPS), but it
takes a whole team of dedicated people to be able to produce a pantomime. The committee make
sure that the team is able (and willing) to do this. With more than 100 people involved in total,
the committee needs to guide and ensure that everything is progressing and working as it should.
Putting on a pantomime is a huge commitment on everybody’s part and a huge team effort, but
when you see people leaving the performance smiling, laughing and coming back time after time,
well, that’s why we all do it.
Who, what, where?
Once upon a time… 1984 to be exact, a group of UK expatriates thought it a pity that their
children were missing out on a great British Christmas tradition – PANTOMIME. Out of this came
the decision to put on a surprise single performance of a pantomime, Snow White, for their
families. And so the Secret Pantomime Society was born.
From these humble beginnings, SPS has expanded with great success and to increasing audiences.
Today a few of the founding members are still involved; and the association continues to grow with
a multi-national membership. It is not only the British who are involved with SPS. We have French
and many other European nationalities represented - as well as America, Australia, New Zealand
and Mexico, to name but a few.
SPS is always looking for people interested in theatre – on stage or behind the scenes. To find out
more visit our website: www.secretpantosociety.com or e-mail us at: panto.pibrac@hotmail.com
