EVERLASTING INSIGHT
Philosophy of
Swadeshi
Foreign trade and corruption are two biggest enemies
of the nation. Many people, by ignorantly using foreign
commodities are becoming a part of an evil.
must avoid usage of foreign commodities, manufactured without any use of tech-
We nology. Keep away from commodities, which are manufactured by using technology,
like mobile phones, computer, cars and accord highest priority to Indian
made products. Transfer of technology and foreign investment can be brought, where it becomes essential. But we
can not allow indiscriminate looting and demolishing the country by foreign companies. Control on foreign investment
and management must be in the hands of Indians. It's a great shame that foreigners and their companies rule
us and extort us of our resources. No proud Indian would accept it. In the usage of domestically manufactured
goods, top priority must be accorded to commodities, which have been manufactured in villages. Second priority
must be to the commodities made in the country and use foreign commodities only when these are not available in
the country. Our intent to use Swadeshi is scientific, practical and in the interest of the nation. Our movement of
Swadeshi is not inspired by any ulterior motive. If somebody brings anything to the country, even from other planets,
we will appreciate if it happens to be in the interest of the nation. But we would not allow to rule and extort the
country in the name of globalization and liberalization.
In India, the economic, political and social influence of foreign companies is rising. Foreign companies are getting
all the liberties in the name of globalization and liberalization, since the policies adopted in the year 1991. These
companies are looting Indian money and resources. Every year from India, about 2.32 lakh crore rupees explicitly
and implicitly, 7.5 lakh crore rupees are being sent outside the country. This is the reason that there is an acute
shortage of the capital in the country. To make up for this deficit, Indian government is borrowing from domestic
and international markets. Indian government is under a huge domestic debt of 40 lakh crore rupees. In order to
pay its interest, about one third (3.5 lakh crore rupees) of Indian government's budget is spent. Due to this reason
every Indian is under a debt of 33,000 rupees, which has been borrowed domestically and internationally. The end
result of all this is the deficit of money in the development of the nation.
Foreign companies bring money and technology and increase the level of exports, employment and competition.
This myth has been strategically spread by foreign companies and their foreign masters, business people and those
who benefit from them. But the fact is that foreign companies do not bring money but they take it away. Foreign
companies do not bring technology but they raise level of unemployment by destroying small and domestic industry.
Products like Coca Cola, Pepsi and Lux do not sell out of the country but these companies one way or the other
destroy domestic manufacturer of the same product.
Indian government has signed some international treaties with WTO World Bank and IMF. Under these agreements
India is unable to throw out any foreign company. Due to the immensely weak political will, extortion by foreign
companies has become a big problem. So, throwing out these companies from the country is only dependent
on the will and determination of the Indians. Like Indians threw out East India Company, similarly they have to
throw foreign companies out. So, non-cooperation and boycott of these companies is the only solution to stop economic
loot of the country.
Revolutionary leaders like, Lokmanya Gangadhar Tilak, Lala Lajpat Rai, Bipin Chandra Pal, Mahatama Gandhi,
Bhagat Singh, Ram Prasad Bismil, Chndrashekhar Azad, Subhash Chandra Bose, Ashfaq Ullah and other used a
weapon called boycott to throw East India Company out of the country. By using the same weapon of boycott, we
can throw these thousands of foreign companies out of the country, which are looting our resources. If the country's
money is sent abroad then the country becomes poor. So, foreign countries are extorting Indian money and
corrupt people are looting the country. By adopting Swadeshi and ending corruption and foreign trade, we have to
save the country. Foreign trade and corruption are the two biggest enemies in the country. Many people, by ignorantly
using foreign commodities are becoming a part of an evil, and thus causing loss to the nation. Let's all come
together and vow to boycott all products, manufactured without using any technology.
Hindi has registered an impressive presence in the web world
and it is highly respected in many countries of the world. Hindi language
and literature has got special recognition in the world.
But due to the indifference of our own government, Hindi is neglected in this country. It will
be the best thing to provide higher education in our national language.
Venerable
Swami Ramdevji says that we will get due respect for national language
Hindi with other Indian languages like Gujarati, Tamil, Telgu, Kannad,
Marathi, Punajbi, Bangla and others. It's good to have an understanding of foreign
languages but using them as our national language is sheer shameful. All over the
world, not a single country allows the medium of education to be a foreign language.
Since higher education in Science, Medicine and Management is not in Hindi or in
other regional languages, many students fail to become doctors, engineers and
managers.
So many children of labourers, poor families and farmers, despite being meritorious,
fail to clear Matriculate exam and are deprived of becoming IAS, doctors or scientists.
We will get opportunities for our children in our own languages. We will make
available professional education to the children, in their mother tongues like Malyalam,
Gujarati, Tamil, Telgu, Marathi, Punjabi, Bangla and other mother tongues.
It's a great shame to democracy, that there happens
to be discrimination and injustice on the basis of
languages in the field of education. When all forms
of educations, from the basic to technical and management,
are available in their native languages in Japan,
France and Germany, then why the same can not be
done in India? Since the time, government allowed to
write IAS and IPS examinations in national language,
children of labourers, artisans and farmers have started
their entry into administrative services. Now on behalf
of millions of people, we demand from government,
that it should accord equal status to the national language
and other native languages. And the government
must come out with clear and transparent, short-term
and long-term policies with time-bound objectives.
How surprising is it that farmers understand native languages
but agricultural institutions provide education
in English only! So scientists and farmers can not hold
a conversation between them. When farmers are
Indians and scientists are also Indians then what is the
objection on the medium of education being Indian
languages? Similarly patients are Indian and doctors are
also Indians. Likewise, engineers are also Indians and
the place they are supposed to work is in India and for
Indians, then what is the objection on the medium of
education being Indian language? What a big disappointment
is it that government rules in India in Indian
languages but our education, medical and other systems
run in foreign language English! So, we humbly request
to the prime minister that education in Agriculture,
Medical and Engineering, from entrance exam, books
and students, be provided in national and other regional
languages besides English. And this should take
effect from academic session 2012 and 2013.
There does not seem to be any problem in finding
teachers and translating books in Hindi and other languages.
In the interest of the people, only a political will
is essential. Mahatama Gandhi had always emphasized
that education system must be in native languages and
for character building, inculcation of value system is
essential. We do not need only educated people but we
also need citizens with a strong value system. So an
effective education system, which includes Yoga, spiri-
tuality and imparting moral values, be developed. So
that, we can build impeccable characters of our citizens.
Otherwise, we can not stop outflow of millions of
rupees by our educated people, devoid of any value system.
We should never forget that whatever we have
become in life, it's because of our thoughts and value
system, whether honest or dishonest, good or evil, successful
or unsuccessful and happy or sad.
So there is a desperate need to bring positive changes in
our education, which inculcates meritorious thoughts,
spirituality, moral and cultural values. It was all part of
our ancient education system. During the days of
English rule, T B Macaulay conspired to end our education
system.
With the inspiration of Swami Ramdevji, Divya Yoga
Mandir trust launched a monthly magazine in the year
2003, 'Yoga Sandesh', which carries research and
knowledge in Yoga, Spirituality, Ayurveda, Indian culture
and value system. In attending to the highest
national duty, rising from caste, religion and community,
Yoga Sandesh started to get published in English and
Gujarati in April 2005. Then in May 2005, it started to
publish in Marathi and Asamese and in February 2007,
it started to publish in Kannada and Telgu. In August
2011, 'Yoga Sandesh' completed 8 years of its publication.
With September 2011 edition, Yoga Sandesh
enters into its 9th year. With the guidance of Swamiji,
our dear and dedicated readers have increased the popularity
of the magazine. Now Yoga Sadesh is a part of
their lives. They are providing direction to their
lifestyle, food habits and spiritual lives.
In the current times of rising prices, it's a tremendously
demanding challenge to bring out a 68 pages multicoloured
magazine. But with the co-operation and love
of people, we have enlarged its reach on global level. We
need your co-operation today, tomorrow and in the
years to come. So, you adopt Yoga Sadesh and let it
reach other people too. It's not only a magazine, but a
torch of revolution. Swamiji blesses you all and expect
your kind co-operation.
Reformation from Yoga: Rejuvenation of body,
mind and soul `Navparivartankari Yoga
Pilot Project` in Scotland schools
This is a surprising success story of east and west union. Yoga classes, in the schools of
Scotland began with Patanjali Yogpeeth, which has cast a surprising positive impact
on health and study. The plan is a brainchild of Sharavan and Sunita Poddar, Non Resident
Indians (NRIs), living in Scotland. The couple is dreaming of healthy and disease-free
Scotland for the present and future generation of the nation. Courtesy, their sustained efforts
and cooperation of the council of Glasgow city, the dream is turning into reality.
M
s Sunita Poddar and her husband Sharavan
Poddar are the trustees of Patanjali Yogpeeth
Trust, which has around 80 lakh members.
NRI Sharavan told that the main objective behind yoga
is `Samadhi`. He claimed that it is a scientific fact that
Yoga cures many diseases, even many considered incurable.
He said that yoga is for the welfare of entire
mankind and shall not be dealt with restricted mind set.
He said that yoga is a medicine, which is a complete
medical science in itself. He expressed optimism that
deep breath, yoga asans, different postures and
Ayurvedic medical science give immense energy. It
could rejuvenate body and help reforming body, mind
and soul. Sharavan Poddar is an international yoga
master. He has trained 2500 yoga teachers in UK and
every month, takes 200 to 300 free yoga classes. Sunita
Poddar is also an important yoga trainer and giving
immense contribution in the field. She is also operating
one Care homes group in Glasgow with which over
1000 people are linked. Sunita Poddar said that these
people have been cured with the help of yoga. They
have also received power and energy after exercising
yoga. Sunitaji said that health is the basic right of a
human being. She said that yoga, pranayam could cure
a person and make him self-reliant. She said that yoga
shall be free from the limits of caste, creed and society
and utilize as a bridge to make strong bonds among
human beings irrespective of their religious affiliation.
In 2008, Poddar family convened a meeting of politicians
in which they gave information related to health
and also suggested to introduce yoga classes. This was
the beginning of first pilot project in Scotland.
Sunita Poddar said that students, who exercise
pranayam have fast physical and mental development as
compared to others. Yoga also makes person alert
towards mental and physical health. The researchers of
Aberdin and Leads university, after intense research
concluded that the children, who constantly practiced
yoga exercises, performed much better in examination
due to increased power of concentration as compared to
others. A school teacher of Glasgow, Ms Ken, who completed
yoga training told that yoga has helped in
improving her relationship with children. The students
not only performed better but their mutual relationship
also improved. She said that every class begins with
pranayam so that pure and pollution free air could enter
the body and purify various organs as 54 percent energy
to the body is received from fresh air. Thus, her each
class starts with pranayam followed by light and then
serious exercises. Students of all class participate in the
exercise. At the end of class, laughter therapy is held
which energize and refresh students and they get prepared
for next period. The yoga classes are free. The
Patanjali yogpeeth trust is also making yoga course
available for students of age one year to five years. It
would be soon made available. Sunita Poddar is very
happy with the progress and said that children are the
future of the nation. She said that children and every
human being shall remain healthy. She is satisfied that
Scottish schools are accepting eastern philosophy.
Tissues
start weakening with the increasing
age and various joints start wearing
and tearing. In such a situation joints start
experiencing pain and the suffering one starts
loosing appetite, excessive thirst and the joints
in the body start experiencing pain along with
mild swelling in the knees. In the advanced
stages of the illness even mild walking becomes
a painful experience. Arthritis due to old age is
known as osteoarthritis, due to swelling or
inflammation in the joints is known as gouty
arthritis and due to hemophiliac blood clotting
in the joints is termed as acute arthritis.
Skeletal joints are also affected in Tuberculosis
and Rheumatism.
Shoulder stiffness:
The swelling in muscles surrounding the shoulders disables
the free movement of shoulder. Hydrocortisone
injections or treatment with ultrasonic rays helps in
this form of pain.
Osteoarthritis:
It starts normally after 50-55 years of age, due to wear
and tear of skeletal bones in the shoulders, knee joints
and spinal cord. Edges form at the joints and a sharp
sound could be heard while moving the affected joints
and pain increases gradually. The movement gets
restricted in the joints and we must consider that we
are walking a lot, exercising slightly and consuming
medications regularly. Even after being cured pain
could surface again. Knee joints are completely ruined
with this form of arthritis.
Rheumatoid Arthritis:
It is found mostly in the women over 40 years of age
specially affecting the knee, ankle and arm joints. The
patient should continuously keep working to some
extent along with rest which is also prescribed.
Arthritis of the spinal cord:
The skeletal posture of the patient slightly bents forward
and it affects hip, shoulder and spinal joints. It is
most commonly seen in the males.
Gout:
This disabling illness is caused due to the concentration
of uric acid in the cartilage of knee joints.
Medication is prescribed to control the concentration
of uric acid in the knee joints and it is suggested to
reduce the uric acid in blood. Alcoholic and non-vegetarian
consumption works as catalyst for this disease
and so should be avoided completely.
Tuberculosis of the joints:
This disease is due to malnutrition mostly affecting the
joints. Tuberculosis of the lungs reaches the joints and
its symptoms do match that of arthritis. Extensive
medication of tuberculosis is used to treat this illness.
Medical Treatment:
1 ] One clove of garlic should be boiled in half liter milk
and when the milk is reduced to about 250 ml,
should be consumed after filtering the milk from
the garlic and so on we should increase the number
one clove every day and from 12th day we need to
decrease one clove of garlic every day.
2 ] The roots of Punarva 10 gm should be boiled in 100
ml of water until the water remains about 25 ml and
then it should be consumed after filteration.
3 ] Yograj guggal tablets should be consumed with
warm water, 2 tablets in morning and evening each.
4 ] Ashwgandha, Chopechini, Peeplamul, Sonth powder
in equal quantity should be consumed with milk
in morning and evening.
5 ] After baking joints with warm cloth dipped in hot
water Redi leaves with ghee should be applied on
the joints.
6 ] Before sleeping at night 18 gm of Methi seeds
should be consumed with water.
7 ] Affected joints should be massaged with pain relieving
oils.
Dietary inclusions:
Wheat, Millet chapattis, Methi, Chaulai, Bitter gourd,
Tinda, Apple, Papaya, Grapes, Dates, Garlic consumption
is suggested.
Dietary exclusions:
Rice, Potato, Cauliflower, Raddish, Sem, Grams, Urd
pulses, Banana, Oranges, Lemon, Guavas, Tomatoes,
Curd and all things with air element in them, sleeping
during day and excessive hard work increases the illness.
One should do Yoga-Pranayam as it is necessary and
beneficial too. As per the Patanjali Systematic Strategy
Letter, Pain relieving decoctions should be consumed
daily before eating anything in the morning. Mahavaat
Vighwansan Ras, Swarnmaakshik Bhasm, Prawaal
Pisti, Godanti Bhasm also helps in arthritis. In excessive
pain Vrihatvaat Chintamani Ras is also used. Use
Yograaj Guggal, Chandrprabha Vati, Peedantak Vati
and massage with pain relieving oils. All the aforementioned
medicines should be consumed only under prescription
by a registered medical practitioner.
Build an India
Free From Political
Corruption
10&YOG SANDESH&September 2011
Swami Ramdev
Dishonest and corrupt
people have looted the
country. They will be
thrown out of power. They
will meet their fate for
their committed evils.
It's our illusion that we can idyl
and some avatar or messiah will
appear and bring change in the
country. We have to fight if we
have to get something.
are free from
We
slavery, yet in the
country, in the name of
governance exploitation,
injustice, corruption and
atrocities are on the peak;
insecurity and lack of
faith is prevalent. In such
a situation, the country
needs a purely nationalistic
idea. And a new independence
can be usheredin,
by dislodging corrupt,
dishonest and criminals
perched on top of the
political system. A a
strong democratic country
can be built by handing
over political power
to nationalistic, patriotic,
transparent people, who
happen to be visionaries,
humanistic, spiritualistic.
T
he MPs and MLAs that
we elect for our supreme
parliament; that parliament
is the foremost centre of
power and resources of the
nation. Parliament is the centre
of all the systems in the country.
Political system decides the kind
of education system we adopt
and what should our children be
taught. Political system is
accountable for our medical system,
economy and law and order
in the country.
Political system is accountable for
developing agricultural system,
eradicating poverty, hunger and
illiteracy and ensuring optimum
usage of manpower to curb
unemployment. If political sys-
tem is fine, the whole system of
the country works properly.
When we talk of polity, nationalism,
national duty, we mean all
the systems in the country, laws,
ideal values and traditions, which
bring progress and happiness to
the country and the country
moves on the path of development.
But unfortunately most of
the leaders heading the system
are not correct, which is resulting
into corruption in the country.
And corruption breeds poverty,
hunger and crime.
Venerable Swamiji believes that if
corruption is curbed in the country,
we will have 10 lakh crore
rupees more for the development
of the country. Millions of more
people can be employed; there
will be all round development in
the country and the country will
be stronger, harmonious and free
from crime.
Our ideals for national duty or
polity, democracy and political
system are - best among humans
the king Ram, Yogeshwar
Krishna, Chandragupt,
Vikramditya, Samrat Ashok,
Chatrapati Shivaji, Netaji
Subhash Chand Bose, Tilak,
Gokhle, Iron man Saradar Patel
and Lal Bahadur Shastri and others.
But currently, most of the
corrupt, dishonest, people without
dignity are governing our
country. And if any patriotic,
honest and individual with
integrity happens to talk of
replacing this ugly system with a
clean and honest political system
then these corrupt, dishonest and
criminal people do not like this.
It's an illusion that we can continue
to remain silent and gods
will oblige us to bring that muchneeded
change. Don't live a life of
despair; identify your strengths
and come together to defeat devilish
forces. Dislodge all the corrupt
people sitting on top of our
political system. Elect noble people
for the job and the only way
to do this is by exercising your
franchise 100 percent.
So, we want to replace the current
corrupt political system by a
YS_SEP ENG_2011-4.qxd 8/26/2011 4:34 PM Page 13
better democratic system, like in
Italy, Australia, France, and
Germany and over 30 countries,
exercising an individual's franchise
is mandatory; we wants to
bring the same law to this country.
Then only it is possible to
bring an end to exploitation,
injustice and corruption and it
will end insecurity and lack of
faith among people. And India in
real terms can become a strong
democratic nation. Otherwise
only 25-30 percent people vote
and all the people becomes a victim
of bad governance. Corrupt
leaders by offering false promises
continue to loot the wealth of the
country in the name of development.
I consider not exercising my
franchise as maligning our independence
and democracy. If we
do not vote then our independence
is under a serious threat.
Our independence earned by
martyrs will transform into slavery.
Martyrs and brave freedom
fighters did not sacrifice their
lives so that weak, corrupt, dishonest
and cowards may rule the
country. For the current political
degeneration all of us are equally
responsible.
So, take a vow to exercise our
franchise fully so that a strong
democratic country can be built.
We will bring true independence
in the country and will get rid off
political slavery. Since we do not
vote, the power is transferred to
corrupt people and the whole
country suffers. To conclude, we
wish all the countrymen happy
Independence Day and exhort
people to join Bharat Swabhiman'
to realise Swamiji's vision of
making India economic and spiritual
lord of the world.

I consider not exercising
my franchise as
maligning our independence
and democracy.
If we do not vote
then our independence
is under a serious
threat. Our independence
earned by martyrs
will transform into
slavery.
(30-31) And some people restrict food and
start firing 'Pr?na' in 'Pr?na' and it is also
another type of yajna (sacrifice). These people
know the esoteric meaning of performing
sacrifice (yajna). And as they perform
their responsibility, their sin would be emaciated.
Those who accept 'prasada' (blessed
offering) as nectar, unite together with eternal
Brahman. Those who do not do their
duty (effort) in this world, how do they
attain heaven or live in timeless happiness?
The intact essence indicates that 'doing
incessant efforts' by performing 'yajnas',
completing daily routinue and fulfilling the
responsibilities. 'Yajna' should not be taken
as a single form. It exists many ways. Every
person adores Brahman according to his
own faith, reverence and style. By performing
Yajna, offering auspicious ingredients in
holy fire, having keen interest in self-education,
to have a great control on sensuous
things - these are all called 'Yajnas'. The fundamental
aim in performing yajna is to be
free from 'egoism' and 'attachment'. Those
who wish to attain Brahman by doing yajna,
they definitely do so. Some householders set
a rule for themselves that they accept meal
after they feed any guest. This is one kind of
'yajna' and they attain their result. Here
Yajna means… each and every kind of that
act, which is perfomed as a part and parcel
of the continuation of creation-cycle, without
seeking for its result. These acts are not
bondages. The society, country and even
entire universe is created and is going on in
a smoother way - Because the whole thing is
depended on Sacrifice. Without doing our
duty in an unselfish manner, how can we
have an auspicious thought for our society,
country or cosmos?
(32) In this way, various sorts of sacrifices
are incessantly releasing from the mouth of
Brahman. That person, who knows very well
about the sacrifice and follows it, would be
comforted from these worldly bondages.
(33) Oh! Destroyer of foes (Arjuna)! It is
said that 'knowledge-sacrifice' (jnana-yajna)
is better than 'material-sacrifice' one.
Because Oh, Arjuna! Every deed has to fire
its consequences in 'knowledge -fire' only.
One may achieve Brahman by performing
'material-sacrifice' and by offering auspicious
ingredients But if one is ignorant of
Brahman-form, then it is not possible for

him to reach Brahman. So it is said, 'knowledge-sacrifice'
is better to 'material-sacrifice'.
Even though Geeta gives the utmost
preference to 'jnana-yajna'of all 'yajnas', it
did not give even a least support to the
'renouncement of acting'. And moreover, it
counsels to perform worldly acts to achieve
this world.
Socializing and
Spirituality
Extermination
of physical discomforts could be achieved through devotion and
pranayam, mental attributes could be reined in with pranayam, mental
and scientific devotion. The main catalyst for scientific richness is mind and as has
been said that the decision making process of mind is intelligence or intellect. Our mind
is full of this richness and it only inspires us to extend our work or deeds.
Acharya Balkrishna
D
evotion to the scientific enrichment of
mind leads to brilliant and continuous
intelligence or intellect. The primary
refinement of intellect leads to materialistic accomplishments
and secondary refinement enables one to
overcome mental attributes. The highest refinement
of intellect leads to self realization or enlightenment
through meditation also called SamadhiI. Lord Shri
Krishna explained the same stages of intellect to
Arjun. The curiosity of such intellects is termed in
UPANISHADS as the subjects for the knowledge
beyond explanation or Theosophy. Intellect coming
over mental attributes leads to easy solutions over
discomforts due to dumbness. Once a devotee who
has come over these mental attributes, then easily
progresses on to reach Samadhi. An intellect entering
Samadhi through meditation is actually entering into
spirituality from material world. Even after attaining
Samadhi the conversion of intellect is not disturbed.
The refined form of intellect attained through primary
Samadhiis also called materialistic intellect
(Ritumbhara Pragya). On reaching Samadhi only the
contemplative remains, the devotee/devotion and
meditation become non-existent (SHUNYA).
Special recommendation while entering Samadhi is
to keep the source of happiness which is the bliss of
GOD should be kept as contemplative. While meditating
on the almighty the devotee in Samadhi losses
its self consciousness and does not even remembers
that it is doing meditation, only the contemplative of
almighty remains at that point. A devotee in Samadhi
has reached the horizons of bliss and as per the sages
from UPANISHADS also got in tune with the eternal
bliss form of Brahma. As per the levels of Samadhi
the level of bliss also changes form and the devotee
with the will of Samadhi keeps merging on with the
eternal bliss. Patanjali has categorized Samadhi
mainly as sampragyta and asampragyta and then fur
YS_SEP ENG_2011-4.qxd 8/26/2011 4:34 PM Page 17
ther subcategorized both. All these categories or subcategories
explain various stages of Samadhi. We
must keep in mind that intellect could also be
achieved through Samadhi. Sampragyta concentrated
Samadhi leads to materialistic intellect and then the
devotee does not need to earn knowledge through
other means. Asampragyta concentrated Samdhi
takes one to the pinnacle of intellect where all forms
of observance does not matter anymore, the way to
the ultimate pinnacle of bliss is open from here. This
is the eternal freedom or moksha or nirvana. All
forms of suffering end here. The human responsibilities
cycle terminates here. This is the eternal bliss and
the pinnacle of spiritual living and the ultimate
reward of yoga.
The trend of dividing life into materialistic and spiritualistic
categories depolarizes the polar ideology of
life. Life does not have two ideologies flowing in two
directions but one only and so livelihood could also
not have two opposing paradigms. Basically the main
reason behind the trends of visualizing life in these
two forms is the attempt to accept or include both
forms in the life style separately. Different stages in
the life do try to mend or influence the main form of
lifecycle, yoga curbs these influences. But those who
try to live away from yoga could not save their main
lifecycle form to get affected by these subsidiary influences.
And from here begins the roots of misfortune.
Spirituality would not be born out of air but has to be
sincerely cultivated through a moral lifestyle. Yoga is
a part of devoted moral lifestyle only.
The ideology of yoga does not consider the life as the
first or last but it is a cycle or birth and death. It is not
absolute as life neither starts with birth and nor does
it ends at death. It is but just a timely expression of the
continuous life-cycle. This life is a result of a completed
life-cycle and also forms basis for the future life
and could be compared to a field where harvesting
and sowing are going on side by side. And so the
future life could be decided by living beings themselves,
they are free to decide it for themselves. Yoga
explains this on the basis of karma. Human responsibilities
are explained in four classes as Duty 'Dharma',
Work 'Arth', Procreation 'Kaam' and Eternal Freedom
'Moksh' as per the Indian Philosophy.
This life cycle has a singular flow and all values from
materialistic to spiritual are to conserve this singular
flow. As per the Indian philosophy if 'arth' and 'kaam'
are social or family responsibilities then 'dharma' and
'moksh' are the spiritual responsibilities. Dharma and
Moksh keep Arth and Kaam as subsidiary and also
clearly indicates that for social or family responsibilities,
spiritual responsibilities could not be neglected
and it is very much necessary to safeguard the social
formation or the society through spiritual discipline.
Yoga inspires one to achieve societal contemplatives
through spiritual forms like non-violence, truth,
celibacy and renunciation and so yoga is a part of
social and spiritual life.
is beneficial
while
the body.
18&YOG SANDESH&September 2011
Our food
and health
in Hindi means intake in the body. Meal from mouth, breath from nose, and
`Aahar`
absorbing sun rays through skin, all are intakes for human body. Mother's
blood is the food for yet to born baby in womb. When the newly born baby comes on
the earth, breast feeding of mother is the food. Now question comes why meal is taken?
To quench hunger, to keep body healthy and to gain energy, we all take meal. Besides
physical health, mental health also depends widely on meal, we take.
Calculated meal is the
basis of human health.
Many elements are necessary
for the proper functioning
of the human body and presence
of all such elements in a food is
possible only in balanced and
calculated diet. Proteins,
Carbohydrates, minerals, vitamins,
acids, iron are necessary
for the proper growth of the
body. Water consumption in
appropriate quantity is also
needed.
The other aspect of meal is mental
health. Meal casts deep
impact on the action of a human
being. Food is responsible for
many mental deformations.
We shall take that amount of
meal, which is necessary for running
the body smooth. We shall
not take food for taste and
tongue. Intoxicants like wine, tea,
coffee and other such items are
harmful to the health. Food is
much necessary as it is the
source for our physical and mental
energy. Meals cast impact on
the human activities. Liquor and
other intoxicants damage our
alertness. Thus, intoxicants and
other drugs should be totally
prohibited.
Fresh air is also food for human
body. We inhale fresh air from
lungs and release carbon-dioxide.
Cool breeze in forests,
parks is fresh, with adequate
quantity of oxygen. Thus, it is
helpful for the health. Sun rays
are also good food for human
being. Thus, it is mandatory that
we spend life in pure environment
and atmosphere. A person
shall live at place where light, air,
water, neighbors, purity and
social service opportunity are
available.
Meal shall be tasteful and beneficial
for the health. Fresh meal
benefits while decayed and rotten
meal is harmful. The intake
YS_SEP ENG_2011-4.qxd 8/26/2011 4:34 PM Page 21
The quantity of food should be
balanced, neither less nor more
besides being
calculated and adequate. Excess
intake of food is atrocity on the
stomach
and body system. Meals should be
taken at regular time and not more
than two or three times in a day.
of food shall be in proper quantity,
neither deficit or in excess.
Excess consumption of food is
like an atrocity on the body and
it shall be not more than two or
three times a day. It is necessary
to have a proper control on diet.
Food intake shall be vegetarian.
The best food is calculated diet
according to the health. Meal
shall be chewed properly. It is
necessary that intestines should
be strong enough.
Weak intestines cause problem in
digestion. Food should neither
too hot nor cold. Tooth and
intestine, both are severely
affected by cold items. Meal
should be taken only when feeling
hungry. Mental thought of
the cook also casts effects on the
meal. Meal prepared by crooked
person, brings crookedness
among the persons, who consume
the meal.
Hence, a person who cooks the
meal shall have pure thoughts.
Meal gives health and also diseases.
It is very necessary to have
controlled diet.
There is nothing wrong in saying
that even we don't know how to
breatheproperly. The lone factor
of food intake is taste. If we get
tasty food, we eat limitless. A
person stops eating only when
his body and stomach does not
allow more food. It casts adverse
impact on the digestion, making
body and soul ill.
It is seen that spicy items are
taken in excess amount only for
tongue and taste. Due to uncontrolled
diet, probably there is no
prosperous person who does not
take related medicines.
In any metropolitan, urban,
semi-urban or rural areas, lots of
medical shops have been opened.
Mostly diseases generate from
excess food. The two- third part
of the intestine should have food
and one part water. Rest one part
should be kept empty for pure
air. Actually we have forgotten
the system of food intake and
this ignorance is the basic reason
behind many physical problems.
Taking food is as important as
not taking food. In `Shastrs` fast
has been widely described, scientifically.
Fast is a medicine.
Regular fasting does not weaken
a person but gives power and
energy, which is much needed
for physical and mental health.
Thus, meals selection and food
intake needs total care.

Meals
should not
be too hot
or too cold.
Too cold
meal is
harmful for
teeth and
intestines.
The mental
status and
thoughts of
a cook also
cast its
influence on
the food.
Women ignores
women
issue of role of women in the society is now discussed in the highest
The
`panchayat` of the nation. i.e. Parliament as Women Reservation Bill
beyond the walls of a house. Everywhere, equal rights to women and restoration
of their respect are being discussed. This advocacy and discussion are necessarily
a good initiative towards bringing change in women condition. But does
women, which is almost half the population and demanding equal rights and
respect have mutual respect? This question also needs to be seriously explored.
There is no harm in women demanding equal rights compared to men but this
question also need to be explored that does they respect each other. A woman
ignores women. Why?
A
woman is not only a beautiful creation of the
super power. It is not only a feminine body but
a nature in itself. Therefore, lyrists describing
nature keep woman at the centre in his creation. A
woman, who is given so much of respect in world always
ignores other woman. Why? A woman is enemy of other
woman. The root cause behind is to prove herself best,
insulting others.
The psychic behind the mend set is also very deep.
Reasons could be many like extreme love for children,
depression, greed, arrogance or even revenge, there
could be many reasons, which provoke a woman to insult
other. They use indecent language. Lord Ram was also to
be handed over throne but the ego of a woman turned
the destiny and he was send for 14 years' exile. Many
women in the society play disrespectful role, hence earn
bad name for the entire woman community. A woman is
expected to do justice in her role as mother, wife, sister
and daughter. This justified action in every role, she is
playing in the society could only earn kudos. If a woman
continued to be enemy of other, how `yatra naryastu
pujyante ramante tab devta` would be realized in the
society. God has created universe but on earth, mother is
the creator of human being. None has any doubt on this
fact. But census 2011 report portrays dangerous scenario
for women. According to the census in last decades, birth
rate of girls below 6 years of age has declined by 13 percent
as compared to boys. The ratio of this age group has
been recorded as 1000:914. Data itself are testimony of
feticides means girl fetus are killed before they could
come to earth. Many awareness campaigns are being
launched and the Government has imposed different
laws but just think, whether only men with father domi-
YS_SEP ENG_2011-4.qxd 8/26/2011 4:34 PM Page 23
nating mind-set are responsiblefor this situation. Answer
is a big no. Many women also prefer boys overgirls and
agree for feticides. Moreover, if a girl gets born, she is not
given adequate living standard. In many households,
sons are allowed for higher education but not girls. No
seriousness is being displayed for higher education to
girls. For mother, both boys and girls should be equal as
she sacrifices to give birth to any infant. Hence, it is not
understood as why she did not give equal love to bothson
of daughter. Why we kill girls before they could come
on earth. This question applies to women. The beginning
of disrespect to woman by woman began with female
feticide. There is strong need to stop this practice. Before
the situation could turn worse, the woman should start
respecting woman. Apart from this crime there is also
another crime where woman play with the respect of
another woman. And this is dowry system. Regularly we
receive news that some married woman is being poisoned
or set ablazed by inlaws. And in this ghastly act,
mother- in-law, sister-in-law or others play key role. Why
these women forget that they are also women? Apart
from girl foeticide dowry is also a crime, where women
play equal role in harassment. Such incidents would continue
to happen till women would not have self-pride. It
is being repeatedly seen that women discard any act of
women welfare. To talk of the rights of women is not a
revolt against males. The women, who are better placed
too find fault in other women who is under-privileged.
Such women face problem at two ends, at home and even
in outside society. Women demand respect and pride
from male dominant society but they should also have
respect for themselves and others alike. It is easy to
impose charges on others but difficult to introspect and
reach some positive conclusion. It can be stated that the
problem of women are linked to each other, The root
cause behind problem to women is a women itself. Till
we do not alter the mind-set of the society and family,
there would be no change in the circumstances. The population
of women is said to be half of the total population
but the respect would be achieved when a woman start
respecting other woman. Every woman should try to
supplement other. We shall not waste our vital energy in
wasteful exercises. It is an established fact that woman
are an important part of the society thus, each woman
shall start bringing change in herself. When we ourself
would not bring change, how we can expect that the society
would change? First-of-all, a woman would have to
stop behaving as an enemy to other woman. We all
understand that the present generation woman could
create an atmosphere as future generation would go the
way, we suggest now. The woman shall follow principle of
`each one, teach one` and hence show right path to others.
Woman shall vigilant towards their own rights and
other woman and rest problem would be solved upto a
larger extent. The woman would have to learn herself and
other woman to establish its importance in the society.

The issue of
woman welfare
are
being scuttled
by other
woman
itself.
To demand
woman right is
not a revolt
Let'Yoga'
remain yoga only!
In
the present time yoga has spread like wild fire. Almost every day a new yoga
centre is opening in different places and they all promise to take people to
the highest stage of yoga. Not just in India but also in foreign locations many people
have formed their own yoga centers and had made a name for themselves. In
the same context a normal person gets curious about knowing yoga, what is it?
Present form of yoga is displayed as an art to earn money, whether ascetics have
really given birth to this knowledge in the ancient times?
Dr. Vijay Prakash Tripathi
This is a common thing which disturbs the
human mind and to resolve this considering
the yoga as explained and guided by
Patanjali that it is not an art for economic
uprising but it is knowledge for self ascension.
Yoga is formed out of 'Yaju' which means to
add on. In the context of spirituality this word
is used for the process of connecting self to the
higher means 'GOD'. It could also be under-
stood as the right mix of great knowledge and
work full of virtue. The world is full of suffering
and separation and one goes through this
when a close person is departing or separated.
Devotion with the right purpose could be
mixed together in life and then only it could be
termed as yoga.
The necessity is to bring attributes into regulation.
And keeping this in mind, the founder of
yoga philosophy explained it with the formula
of 'Yogaschitvriti nirodh:' The practice of yoga
begins with the detention of mental attributes
only. Normally it is considered as the practice
YS_SEP ENG_2011-4.qxd 8/26/2011 4:34 PM Page 25
Memory is that attribute which
formed as a part of nature even
through minor living forms and
its shadow could also be seen in
the human living form…
…and as a result at times it emerges so
rapidly and gets this human form
involved in such deeds that remorse is
the only way out.
of concentration but it is just a small part of practicing
yoga but this could also be termed as the
materialistic part only. Not only spiritual people
but also those who are not linked to spirituality
from far off are experts in concentration. The form
of coming over mental attributes means to practice
keeping mind concentrated on a good purpose
throughout the various and rigorous life styles. It is
necessary and also appreciated but this does not
fulfill the purpose of yoga practitioner. For self
ascension not just mental difference be understood
but all the mental attributes should be
reclaimed in depth with their differences and they
should always be clearly imbibed not just by mind
but by heart too.
Which mental attributes should be reclaimed at
priority could be understood by the directions listed
instrumentally in the yoga philosophy. All the
attributes are of five types and all these are further
formulated into easy and difficult level. Evidence,
antonyms, options, sleep and memory normally
these five attributes rule the mind and gets its
attention diverted from higher goals and indulges
the being into animalistic trends. Evidence resurfaces
in context with sensual experiences and practices
in the past. Antonym attribute resurfaces in a
situation where one does not fully understand the
situation, leading away from the source of knowledge.
Options mean here fear, unsurely, doubt and
ominous possibilities etc. generated cowardice.
The emotion of sleep suggest laziness, ignorance,
depression or dispiritedness.
Memory is that attribute which formed as a part of
nature even through minor living forms and its
shadow could also be seen in the human living
form and as a result at times it emerges so rapidly
and gets this human form involved in such deeds
that remorse is the only way out.
In the practices of yoga fight for repression or
restraint is briefed about. And in it righteously
mixing self and divine in the moral way would lead
to ultimate ascension. This practice has eight steps,
accepting which is like forming arrays. And, so by
practicing yoga in order to terminate bad attributes
to achieve goals by piercing through the layers
of nature. Ancient scriptures' have explained the
basis and philosophies of devotion to yoga by comparing
it with practicing vocal sounds along with
calligraphic notations which makes one a wise
men, similarly practicing yoga one could attain
philosophical divine knowledge.
Neither is it hard nor is it impossible and it is easily
available. Following this path one could only
benefit and by following this simple fact we could
come out of the confusion between the current
yoga trends and the actual yoga. We should let
yoga remain yoga only and not turned into a
circus art.
Formulators of yoga explain this merging of self
and divine as following:-
"Purusharth Shunyanam Gunnanam
Pratirup: Kewalyam Swarupam Pratistha Va
Chittshaktiriti||"
Property is in rhythm with causes and the power of
consciousness finds itself based in its own form
and so the eternal suffering of parting comes to its
end and then comes a rarest of rare stage in yoga
where bliss, power and accomplishments all are
readily available. And, this is the real form of yoga
which we all must understand, attempt and follow.
The eight packages of yoga directed by Swami
Ramdev ji is inspiring healthy people to ascend
spiritually and also helping ill people in attaining
complete health. Yoga the blessing and heritage of
ascetic lifestyle is establishing on mother earth one
more time and the whole credit for the mass awakening
goes to Swami Ramdev ji.

This practice
has
eight
steps,
accepting
which is
like forming
arrays.
And, so
by practicing
yoga in
order to
terminate
bad attributes…
Achieve
goals by
piercing
through the
layers of
nature…
Everybody knows that our homes also offer many things for
hose parents, who do not keep a watch
on their children, they become a victim
of Television and Videos. An innocent
child gets to know all such things, which he
or she is not supposed to see and listen. So,
these children start seeking pleasure in these
activities, at the expense of time that can be
spent on their studies.
In such an environment, love for nature can not
be developed because; these children never
come into contact with such natural environment.
Living in concrete jungles, children can
not develop sensitivity to the nature.
This kind of cultural defilement is a sort of a
fault in the education system as far as Indian
value system is concerned. They are left
untouched by the emotions like sacrifice, austerity,
celibacy and spirituality, so they tend to
entertain thoughts of suicide in ordinary adversities.
Lack of tolerance becomes the chief casualty
in their personalities. Due to that reason
only, despite having bright future financially,
students of IITs and IIMs commit suicide. At
some places, due to hatred and jealously, they
commit heinous crimes against their compatriots.
Such acts have been witnessed in developed
countries like Germany and the US. On 11th
March, 2009, in Germany's Albertville school, a
seventeen years old boy killed 15 people including
three teachers and 9 girls. Such viloence at
that tender age is dangerous to the society.
These inclinations to violence can only be pacified
by inculcating moral values among students.
Thousands of students pass out from colleges
and universities, but every one of them is confining
themselves to their cocoon only. None of
them hold any dedication or generosity for their
parents, family, society and the country. The
reason behind such indifference is lack of
respect, harmony, concern for feelings and
compassion. In schools, there is strong emphasis
on imparting knowledge in Maths, Science,
History and other subjects. Most of the time
spent by students is away from schools in the
pleasures of life, playing on the streets or watching
TV and playing video games or chatting on
the Net. The art of living life is lost in all these
activities. Contrary to such negative emotions,
meritorious emotions are to be engendered,
which are ingrained in spirituality. They can
only be taught through impeccable conduct, but
there is no time for such education in the current
education system.
Learning any language cultivates human emotions;
a new surge of thought is brought on; but
in the current education system, even that is
lacking as language is emphasized as a medium
to education of other subjects only. So the new
generation is approaching towards a vacuum in
emotions. So, talks of mercy, truthfulness and
selflessness are becoming a thing of the past.
Nobody takes pride in their own language and
culture. That is the reason that a student studying
in public school can not even write in pure
Hindi. A scientific language like Sanskrit is disliked
by the students.
Sexual passion is something that victimizes
everybody, but there has not been any way out
given to the students to deal with it, like it was
told to deal with through a concept of celibacy.
So children, due to co-education system among
genders, concede to temptation in the least possible
conducive atmosphere. Some of them survive
due to the India social values but others fall
deep into it. On the other hand, look at the
developed countries, where one hardly finds
YS_SEP ENG_2011-4.qxd 8/26/2011 4:34 PM Page 27
any girl aged 16 not having gone through an
abortion. Same impact is being witnessed in the
metropolitan cities in India. This is the result of
not imparting a place to Indian culture in our
education system.
In the current milieu, you would hardly find a
house, which remains unaffected by the defilements
or so-called virus in Indian culture - like
passion, anger, greed, illusion, hatred and jealously.
Since these defilements have been haunting
humans for many lifetimes, they do not take
time to manifest in children as well. That is how
they cause obstruction in their education and
their potential remains under utilised.
Non-violence, Truth, Celibacy, Renunciation
and faith Called Yam and Patience, Asceticism,
Self-aggrandizement, Mental Cleanliness and
dedication to God called Niyam control the six
faculties of humans. But in the modern education,
nobody talks about them. So humans are
chasing materiality like an unbridled horse.
Despite knowing that everything will be left
here, they are competing for committing
immoral acts.
Several other evils can also be mentioned in the
current education system, which have brought
us to the point, where means have become the
objectives themselves. All over the world, there
has been a rat-race among educational institutions
and that is the reason humans have started
their material quest. Having attained education
by any means, they are weltering in corruption
and immoral acts. Had it been possible
to attain peace through money, then rich of the
world would never have had to face discontent.
But, current educational system is pivoted on
things, which are not the means to inner peace.
In the current milieu, considering the social
inequalities, the question arises, whether the
existing education system is appropriate?
Anybody would say no to the question and
would talk of reforms. In an article written by
Rajya Sabha Member, Rajeev Shukla, in a daily
Dainik Jagran, existing education system developed
by Macaulay has been termed as outdated
and he has stressed on to bring a change in it.
An alternative to this defiled form of education
system Indian Ashram system is the only alternative
to the above mentioned defiled education
system. This Ashram system continued to
flourish since the time of Vedas and Shastras till
the time of Ramayan and it diminished in the
times of Mahabharata and has disappeared
since. This is the same system, which great educationist
Dayanand tried to establish through
his precepts and literature. By his inspiration
only, several Gurukuls adopted Ashram system
and these are still thriving and getting wider
recognition with minuscule resources at their
disposal. Primarily these institutions are
engaged into teaching and learning Sanskrit literature.
If we happen to merge this education
with the current subjects of science and others,
then this combination will be the best among
all. Since these institutions are located away
from the hustle-bustle of cities and towns, they
are devoid of cultural defilements. And these
are engaged in driving out that defilement away
from human mind. They are successful to a
great extent, because they are inculcating the art
of living, which strengthens human's inner-self,
besides ensuring physical and mental development.
Because of these qualities, Gurukul
Kangdi University, which happens to be the
Swami Shradhanand's karma bhumi also, has
been able to attain international recognition. If
one wants to see closely the successfully running
Ashram system, then one can check boy's
Gurukul Prabhat of Meerut bringing name and
fame to the country in archery in Olympics.
One can check Gurukul Chotipura, Amroha
which have been running with out any aid from
the government, and they are the torchbearers
of Indian culture. There has been highest number
of students from these institutions clearing
NET/JRF exam of Sanskrit, conducted by UGC.
Last year six girls cleared this exam and five of
them were offered JRF. High rate of success
from one institute is a sort of evidence to the
feasibility of Ashram system. What we mean to
say is that there are several Gurukul institutions,
which are providing ancient education
with full dedication and healthy intent. If these
institutions are given government aid then latest
scientific developments can be provided a
new dimenshion. With a small efforts there, a
new height can be attained there.
Shri Arvind
26&YOG SANDESH&September 2011
if to point her finger to the
As thing she intends, she has
accumulated the signs of this process of
breaking and rebuilding in the phenomena
of genius. It is now common knowledge
that genius hardly appears in the human
species unattended, unprepared or unaccompanied
by abnormalities in the individual
body, vitality and mind which contains
it, - degeneration, insanity or freak in
the heredity which produces it and even
disturbance and supra normality in the
human environment in which it occurs.
The haste of a brilliant generalisation
establishes on this basis the paradox that
genius itself is a morbid phenomenon of
insanity or degeneration. The true explanation
of brilliance is sufficiently clear. In
order to establish genius in the human system,
Nature is compelled to disturb and
partially break the normality of that system,
because she is introducing into it an
element that is alien as it is superior to the
type which it enriches. Genius is not the
perfect evolution of that new and divine
element; it is only a beginning or at the
highest a approximation in certain directions.
It works fitfully and uncertainly in
the midst of an enormous mass of somewhat
disordered human mentality, vital
nervosity, physical animality. The thing
itself is divine, it is only the undivine
mould in which it works that is to a lesser
or greater extent broken and ploughed up
by the unassimilated force that works in it.
Sometimes there is an element in the
divine intruder which lays its hand on the
mould and sustains it, so that it does not
break at all, nor is flawed; or if there is a
disturbance, it is slight and negligible. Such
an element there was in Caesar, in
Shakespeare, in Goethe. Sometimes also a
force appears to which we can no longer
apply the description of genius without
being hopelessly inadequate in our terminology.
Then those, who have eyes to see,
bow down and confess to the Avatar. For it
is often the work of the Avatar to typify
already, partly or on the whole, what
Nature has not yet effected in the mass or
even in the individual, so that his passing
may stamp it on the material ether in
which we live.
But what is this type of which the great
Mother is in labour? What birth will
emerge from the cries and throes of this
prolonged and mighty pregnancy? A
greater type of humanity, it may be said.
But in order to understand what we are
saying, we must first see clearly what the
humanity is which she seeks to surpass.
This human symbol, this type we now are
is a mental being with a mental ego, working
in a vital case by mind always, but
upon matter, in matter and through matter.
It is limited in its higher workings by its
lower instruments. Its basis of mind is egoistic,
sensational and determined by experience
and environment, its knowledge
therefore pursues wider or narrower circles
in a fixed and meagre range. Its moral
temperament and action is similarly egois
YS_SEP ENG_2011-4.qxd 8/26/2011 4:34 PM Page 29
tic, sensational, experiential and determined
by environment; for this reason it is
bound equally to sin and virtue and all
attempts radically to moralise the race
within the limits of its egoistic nature have
been and must necessarily, in spite of particular
modifications, end in general failure.
It is not only a mixed but a confused
type, body and vitality interfering with
mind and mind both hampered by and
hampering body and vitality. Its search for
knowledge, founded on sense contact, is a
groping like that of a man finding his way
in a forest at night; it makes acquaintance
with its surroundings by touching, dashing
on or stumbling over them; and, although
it has an uncertain light of reason given it
which partially corrects this disability, yet
since reason has also to start from the
senses which are consistent falsifiers of values,
rational knowledge is not only
restricted but pursued by vast dimnesses
and uncertainties even in that which it
seems to itself to have grasped. It secures a
few flowers of truth by rummaging in a
thorny hedge of doubts and errors. The
actions of the type also are a breaking
through thickets, a sanguine yet tormented
stumbling forward through eager failures
to partial and temporary successes.
Immensely superior to all else that Nature
had yet effected, this type is yet so burdened
with disabilities, that, if it were
impossible to break its mould and go forward,
there would be much justification
for those pessimistic philosophies which
despair of Life and see in the Will not to
Live humanity's only door of escape admitting
to it no other salvation. But Nature is
the will of the all-Wise God and she is not
working out a reduction of the world to
absurdity. She knows her goal, she knows
that man as he is at present is only a transitional
type; and so far as she can consistently
with the survival of the type, she
presses forward to what she has seen in
God's eternal knowledge as standing
beyond. From this ego, she moves towards
a universal consciousness, from this limitation
to a free movement in infinity, from
this twilit and groping mind to the direct
sunlit vision of things, from this conflict
without issue between vice and virtue to a
walking that keeps spontaneously to a
God-appointed path, from this broken and
grief-besieged action to a joyous and free
activity, from this confused strife of our
members to a purified, unentangled and
harmonious combination, from this materialised
mentality to an idealised and illuminated
life, body and mind, from the
symbol to reality, from man separated
from God to man in God and God in man.
In brief, as she has aspired successfully
from matter to life, from life to mind and
mental ego, so she aspires and with a fated
success to an element beyond mind, the
'Vigyan' of the Hindus, the self-luminous
idea or Truth-self now concealed and
super conscious in man and the world, as
life was always concealed in matter and
mind in life.2 What this 'Vigyan' is, we
have yet to see, but through it she knows
she can lay firm hold on that highest term
of all which is the reality of all symbols, in
Spirit, in Sachchidananda.
The aim of Nature is also the aim of Yoga.
Yoga, like Nature at its summit, seeks to
break this mould of ego, this mould of
mentalised life body and materialised
mind, in order to achieve ideal action,
ideal truth and infinite freedom in our
spiritual being. To effect so enormous an
end great and dangerous processes have to
be used. Those who have been eager on
this road or have opened up new paths
towards the goal, have had to affront as a
possibility frequently realised loss of reason,
loss of life and health or dissolution of
the moral being. They are not to be pitied
or scorned even when they succumb;
rather are they martyrs for humanity's
progress, far more than the lost navigator
or the scientist slain by the dangers of his
investigation. They prepare consciently the
highest possible achievement towards
which the rest of humanity instinctively
and unconsciously moves.
We may even say that Yoga is the appointed
means Nature holds in reserve for the
accomplishment of her end, when she has
finished her long labour of evolving at least
a part of humanity temperamentally equal
to the effort and intellectually, morally and
physically prepared for success. Nature
moves toward super nature, Yoga moves
towards God; the world-impulse and the
human aspiration are one movement and
the same journey.
To be continued
The true explanation
of brilliance
is sufficiently
clear. In order to
establish genius
in the human
system, Nature is
compelled to disturb
and partially
break the normality
of that system…
Because nature is
introducing into
it an element that
is alien as it is
superior to the
type which it
enriches.
Meditation
the process of healthy
and successful life
is necessary to achieve all goals or to accomplish
any feats and so it is advised before starting any
new task that one should do it with meditatively
meaning controlling all mental diversions and
keeping it focused at one point could lead to any or
all accomplishments in life.
It is not necessary to have a silent zone or a forest
to meditate but one does needs to be devoid of
projections. A noiseless environment minus any
projections directed on to you is considered as an
ideal place for meditation. Devotion is considered
as useful in every field, when the devotion in a
group is also considered harmless. As are the
trends in temples, churches and mosques of devotees
attending in groups for prayers and in such an
environment one is neither perturbed by the public
around them nor is there any lack in concentration.
Contemplation in one direction or towards
one goal helps in concentrating even in large gatherings.
Extreme solitude is required for scientific
and materialistic research and analysis but for concentration
and devotion solitude is not required.
The solution to the versatility of mind and to raise
concentration the best possible way is meditation.
Even failures are not due to lack of resources or
objective situations but due to the versatility of
mind. Apathy towards physical capabilities is laziness
and not putting the mental capabilities to
challenge is negligence. Both these enemies of
human success are given birth by versatility of the
mind. The main objective of meditation is to
direct all capabilities of mind in one direction by
retention of all mental versatilities.
Objectives of meditation:
1] To overcome and control unnecessary mental
attributes.
2] To use reined mental capabilities for obtaining
set goals.
3] To increase mental capability and brilliance
through concentratioin.
4] To centralize will power at one point.
5] To uncover the yet to be identified layers of
consciousness through mental capabilities.
6] To take off unnecessary rituals.
7] To promote and progress moral virtues.
8] To maintain balance in turbulent situations.
9] To remain happy and in bliss in every situation.
10] Initiating meditation to keep control over
thought process.
The glory of meditation in the 'Chandogya-
YS_SEP ENG_2011-4.qxd 8/26/2011 4:34 PM Page 31
Upanishad' - In the seventh section of seventh
chapter the glory of meditative yoga is explained in
detail. Meditation and realization of yoga is
accepted as the higher class of devotion. Vocal
attribute prevails over pronunciation, good senses
prevail over vocal capabilities, resolution further
prevails over good senses and above them all is
mind. And only abstract over mind is meditation.
Pronunciation, chanting, silence, prevailing over
good senses and the initiation of resolution
through mind retention are all successive steps of
worship. Meditation tops them all.
Effect of meditation on limbic system - As per the
research paper published by David Richardson
from Wisconsin University in the General Science
Library of Science on his study of an ascetic who
has done meditation over 100000 hours and 32
people who have started meditation 2 weeks ago
found that the ascetic has high limbic system
which is directly responsible for memorizing feelings.
He also shared that those who indulge in
meditation are more sympathetic and have positive
feelings and so Buddhist monks advise kids to
love each other and should be sympathetic
towards other kids.
Effect of meditation on physical and mental level -
Regular meditation helps in reducing lactic acid
up to 50%. It presence creates fear, uneasiness,
sadness and stress in the body and many other elements
are also deranged and fatigued. Meditation
reduces it and thus fills the body with enthusiasm,
rapture, elation and consciousness and also positively
affects the immune system of the body!
During meditation all physical processes are governed
by mind in an organised way which reduces
the pulse rate, blood pressure and breathing rate
which slows down the metabolic process of the
body and thus stress relieved body is obtained
which in turn brings a calm and relaxation to the
mind and body.
Dr. Wenson found that post meditation patients
were recorded with normal blood pressure and by
stopping meditation blood pressure levels back to
usual one as per before starting meditation. He
says this happens due to activation of integrated
hypothalamic responses also known as relaxation
responses. Dr. Wenson and Ballace experimented
over 1832 patients and found out that those who
regularly practice meditation experience slow
down of some biological processes which come to
normal after hours of sleep. In meditation the oxygen
consumption rate reduces by 16% within 3
minutes whereas during 5 hours of sleep could
only bring it down by 8%. Theofen found in his
study that people doing meditation experience a
major difference in their philosophies, such people
experience reduction in flurry, stimulation, mental
stress, psychosomatic diseases and increment in
satisfaction, stamina, valour, socializing skills,
friendliness, liveliness, emotional balance, skills,
sense of humour etc. are the visible goals of meditation.
Psychiatrist researching on parapsychology found
that with meditation many a chemical changes
could be brought in the mind and many brain
functions could be controlled and thus increasing
painkilling elements like rencalin, endorphine and
endogenus in the mind as they are found in the
brain fibers and are very useful. Specialists have
reported that instead of using painkillers we could
use meditation for obtaining senselessness.
Immunity is majorly affected with meditation,
skin immunity also increases and all contaminating
bacteria gets killed coming in contact with the
skin. On concentrating mental capabilities any
human with disability could achieve a super
human persona.
Regular and perpetual practitioners of meditation
underwent some experiments and it was found
that stress could be reduced with meditation and
mind remains calm and relaxed. Body temperature
could also be varied and thus it saves mental
and physical powers also. Extra energy is conserved
and the breath rate also comes down from
16 in a minute to 5 or 6 breathes in a minute.
Meditation related research in the field of education:-
Andre S. Joa after taking the students of a
high school in Holland for a one year meditation
course and practices found that intelligence have
taken a surge in students regularly practicing meditation
in comparison with other students and they
came out on top with question leading to solved
problems. Overall outcome was excellent for these
students regularly practicing meditation. As per
the Brain Scientist in deep meditation alpha rays
gets activated to unimagined levels which helps in
creating patience and deep relaxation. As per Dr.
Chinna and Dr. Baldev from A.I.I.M.S. concluded
on the effects of meditation on the physical activity
science that contemplative concentrated meditative
mind develops many a important characteristics.
We could see the affects of meditation on a
mind using E.E.G. (Electroencephalography)
along with measuring the sensitive blood chemicals
using instruments to gather data regarding
changes in the body.
We can come on conclusion that through meditation
we could conserve our energy and this energy
then could be used in attaining self knowledge.
Self powers could be raised using meditation along
with achieving mental relaxation. Meditation positively
affects the mind and thus required thoughts
get space in the mind. And so by meditating for
about 5-20 minutes on a regular basis we could
positively influence our physical, mental and spiritual
energy.

During
meditation
all physical
processes are
governed by
mind in an
organised
way which
reduces…
… the pulse
rate, blood pressure
and breathing
rate which
slows down the
metabolic
process of the
body.
Prayer
Mighty time-horse is moving on. This
horse is drawing the whole universe. This
universe has seven types of elements in
seven worlds (in all seven planes there are
seven types of worlds and seven earths and
senven types of creation exist. Having seven
types of vital force (prana) , seven types of
wisdom and seven types of substances)
each and every individual is moving on like
like chakra in a circular motion. And these
are the seven ropes (rays), by which this
whole universe is yoked. These planes,
these worlds, these men, these beings, all
the other products are united with that
super power of time and hence the time is
moving on along with all these substances.
This Supreme power time is moving this
cosmos which is integrated with all these
uncountable worlds with all their movable
and non-movable objects in their own
invidual axes. And no one knows since
what time it has been moving in this way !
In its magnanimity there is no account of a
mean human race like of us… when it has
seen innumerable solar systems ramshackled
and dissolved into it. But the eternal
time God, omnipresent with his
supreme power makes it move on even
today.
My salutations to this Time God. Brothers!
Do you see this timeless horse…? Does that
super power horse is seen to you?
Remember … The horse can be ridden by
those erudites - who perceive time, whose
vision is expanded infinitely as they visualize
the whole movement of the eternal time!
So those people have the knowledge of all
the divisions of time… i.e. past and future
along with presence. They see the happenings
with a clear insight in all these three
times. If one is ignorant, inconsistent,
anaware of the majesty of time, mean - tempered,
they can not ride time-chariot.
Because they are trampled down under the
wheels of it, or they go under the feet of that
horse by themselves. That's why time has a
secondary name as 'mrityu' (death). But
actually Time is superpowerful. The journey
has a great momentum. So…come here
! We can decide our track, ride on this horse
and reach our goal. Let us come here…! All
of us become horse riders…! Let us utilize
our seconds…of our life. Let us fulfill our
responsibilities according to the need
of time.

These planes,
these worlds,
these men,
these
beings …
…and all the
other products
are united with
that super
power of time
and hence the
time is moving
on along with
all these substances.
growth of body is due to the assimilation
The of food. After consumption of food their
nutritional attributes are converted and assimilated
The benefits of
Fasting
T
he nutrients and their
attributes are conserved in
the body and all excess
material is secreted out like excreta,
urine, sweating and exhaled breath.
This keeps all functions of the body
organised. Normally humans eat in
excess due to taste and then the
body has to work extra hard to
digest it and then secrete it out. The
materials remaining after providing
nutrition to the body or which
may be required in future are
stored in different places all over
the body and in need body uses
them effectively, but this continuous
reserve leads to obesity.
In such a situation such elements
are avoided and extra work has to
be done in order to secrete the thus
saved reserves. And so, in high
blood pressure salt and fatty food
materials are avoided and medicines
are used which throw out the
reserved salts or elements. To get
rid of fattening material one is
advised to indulge in exercise and
walking or jogging. This helps in
visible fatness and also takes cares
of conserved or objecting particles
in the arteries and veins in a body.
As we have seen how congested a
road gets when it is being violated
from both sides and thus affecting
the traffic on such road, similarly
there comes a situation in a body
when the blood vessels are full of
such materials thus preventing the
regular flow and supply of blood to
important organs thus affecting
various physical processes. When
the violators on the road are
removed they are troubled and in
the same fashion body also goes
through this troublesome period
when material objecting blood vessels
are removed using medication.
If we have to maintain a physical
body without any ailments then we
have to follow some rules. As, following
simple dietary rules help us
in not reserving unrequited objects
in the body.
The body has a basic principle that
it should be fed on when it needs
food and diet should be taken in
direct proportions to the hunger
and as required by the body. If the
food taken previously has been
digested then only we should eat
and when one feels like passing
urine or stool, it should be done
immediately. Lust for food and
taste or by foolishness we acquire
unrequited nutrients in excess
When the violators
on the road
are removed
they are troubled
and in the
same fashion
body also goes
through this
troublesome
period when
material objecting
which then invite ailments to the
body. And in a situation where a
person is eats keeping health in
mind, keeps the body and its digestive
system in perfect shape.
Prevention is better than cure-
Ancient ascetics and monks have
minutely studied their body and its
various functions and their findings
were brought to the knowledge
of the world in the form of
ancient texts. A healthy body is
prerequisite for attaining
'Dharm','Arth','Kaam' and 'Moksh'.
Unhealthy physique could not help
in following 'Dharm' and neither
could one attain 'Arth'.
The policy explained in ancient
texts to keep one healthy extensively
focuses on 'Langhan' (Upwaas)
or fasting. The remedy that helps in
derogation of the body is known as
fasting. Fever (craving-reserves),
outing (walking), exposure to sun,
fasting, exercise etc are solid forms
of derogation.
To follow fasting one does not
required a certain scientific knowledge
or prescription as practicing
fast helps in keep a healthy
physique. Fasting promotes paucity
in the body. As per aayurveda fasting
increases the pneumatic and
celestial properties in a body. As
increase in these properties helps
in curing phlegm or muscular-fattening
related ailments. Stool,
urine and transpiration are exploited.
Fasting also gives rest to the
digestive system which positively
affects other body functions. The
content of sugar gets controlled in
the blood. Joint pain is relieved as
the accumulation of heterogeneous
objects doesn't happen in the fasting
period. It has been experienced
that following fasting in the right
manner helps in curing transmitting
diseases and also increases the
antibodies.
Fasting for body could be compare
to heavy machinery being rested
after some time for overhauling in
order to keep the machinery properly
functioning over a period of
long time. In attaining self righteousness
as per various religions
fasting has been suggested in all
religions. Healthy body and a fit
mind thus helps in attaining selfrighteousness.
Fasting has proved
beneficial in not just physical ailments
but also in sadness, conemotions,
delirium, epilepsy and
depression etc. and also to an
extent in mental ailments.
The ontological food consumed
during fasting also tunes the mind
to be ontological one and further
helps one to be full of devotion,
memory increment, humble, intelligent,
sacred, pure, enthusiasm,
skilled, patience and intellect.
Actually only after understanding
the importance of fasting for physical
and mental well being it has
been associated with religious
beliefs.
Various fasts are suggested in tune
with the seasonal routines many
eons have been explained for the
same. Religious texts explain the
reasons for different fasts and
health is one of the objectives too.
While fasting one should eat ontological
food in moderate quantity.

The body has
a basic principle
that it
should be fed
on when it
needs food
and diet
should be
taken in
direct proportions
to
the hunger
and as
required by
the body…
…if the food
taken previously
has been
digested then
only we should
eat and when
one feels like
passing urine
or stool, it
should be done
immediately.
The relation of
Oxygen and age
In the eternal cosmos of the physical body the abstract of
life is moving like waves in the sea of consciousness.
Eternal consciousness or the globally accepted power of consciousness
is the 'Praan'. It is not just breathing but that
abstract which helps all the physical and mental activities in
a physical living body. 'Praan' is eternal and the inspiration to
all. This is why all worship it. It is the 'sun', the 'moon' and
also 'Brahm'.
Ravindranath Verma
A
t the beginning of cosmos all five basic
elements, population of that time and
all living or non-living forms got shelter
through the living powers from the sky. And at
the time of holocaust they all due to unavailability
of the living power would get assimilated back
into the sky as original source of it all. These all
abstracts are so fully merged in the 'praan' and
are also boosted by it. Divine gods, humans, animals
all breathe with the help of 'Praan' and so it
is righteously termed as age and this is the reason
why it is also termed as 'Sarvayush' or total age.
Due to living in the house of this physical body
and also being the owner of it 'Praan' is also
termed to be the men of the house. Life is only till
'Praan' resides in it.
As it could be heard and accepted it is also greeted
with- 'Vaayo twam pratyakshm Brahmaasi
(Rigveda)' meaning, 'O' the breath of 'Praan' you
are the 'Brahm' as 'Praan' is the reason behind
this existence of world. The knowledge of
'Mantra' and five follicles 'Panchkosh' is based on
'Praan' only. 'Praan' is also considered as an ascetic.
The visionary ascetics did not attain the
abstracts of ascetics on the basis of their physical
attributes but on the basis of 'Praan'. This is one
more reason why 'Praan' is known by the names
of these ascetics. For example restraining senses
is termed as 'Grits' and the divine entity of love
'Kaamdev' is known as 'Mad' and both of these
happen with the help of life energy or 'Praan' and
so the ascetic was known as 'Gritsmad'. 'Visham
mitram yasy asau Vishwamitram' refers that with
the adherence of the 'Praan' all the world
becomes friendly and so was named as
'Vishwamitra'. Similarly 'Vamdev', 'Atri',
'Vashisth' etc. names are revered to the ascetics.
In this physical world 'Praan' is the ruler -
36&YOG SANDESH&September 2011
'kayanagarmadhye tu maarut: kshitipaalak:|'
meaning all divine gods, humans and animals are
all living due to 'Praan'. It is life and it has a very
important science related to it and the same
could be experienced through devotion to yoga.
One who could awaken its sleeping 'Praan' would
be showered with conscious-energy resources
from all directions.
In a human body on the basis of superannuation
working distinction 'Praanvayu' has been categorized
in 10 different names-
Praanoapaan: Satanaschodaanvyanau
Ch Vayav:|
Naag: Kurmoath Krukro Devdutto
Dhananjay:|| (Goraskhsanhita)
Meaning, 'Praan','Apaan', 'Saman', 'Udaan',
'Vyaan', 'Naag', 'Kurm', 'Krukar', 'Devdutt' and
'Dhananjay' etc. are 10 names of 'Praan'.
Exhaling, inhaling, to propagate it with mouth
and nose, digesting consumed food and to diversify
it, food into stool, water into sweat and urine,
juices into semen is what 'Praanvayu' does. It
exists from heart to nose in the upper human
body. The higher senses are dependent on it. To
excrete, urinate and to secrete semen from the
testicles or to carry it to the uterus is the work of
'Apaanvayu' along with all work around waist,
knees and thighs. 'Samaanvayu' is based in
between the navel and the heart and the juices
extracted during digestion are distributed to all
body parts by it. 'Udaanvayu'is based from throat
and head. To keep the physique lifted is its work
and it also forms a relation in between the individual
'Praan' with holistic or whole 'Praan'. It is
responsible for the minuscule body to leave at the
time of death and as per the attributes of the
minuscule body to enter in life form. Ascetics
using this only could travel metaphysically.
'Vyaanvayu' is mainly stationed over the
'Muladhaar Chakra' and is responsible for travelling
through all minuscule channels and infuses
blood to all body parts. The various 'vayus' work
as 'Naagvayu' for sneezing etc, 'Kurmvayu' for

'Praanayaam'
is not just
exhaling of
breath but it
is just its
many
contractions, 'Krukarvayu' for thirst and cravings,
'Devduttvayu' for sleep and somnolence,
and 'Dhananjayvayu' for nutrition. The one who
could move 'Praan' as per its control could control
his body, senses and mind. To control 'Praan'
is also called as 'Praanayaam' and it helps humans
in attaining a healthy and ailment less long life
and thus could gain victory over senses. Mind
has a close connection with the 'Praan' and to
control or curb mind is a very hard work, but by
restraining 'Praan' one could easily restrain over
mind and so 'Praanayaam' plays an important
role in life. Minuscule 'Praan' is distributed
amongst many channels 'nadi' out of which 15
are primary - (1) Sushumna, (2) Ida, (3)Pingla,
(4) Gaandhari, (5) Hastijivha, (6) Pusha, (7)
Yashshivini, (8) Shura, (9) Kuhu, (10) Saraswati,
(11) Vaaruni, (12) Alambusha, (13) Vishwodari,
(14) Shankhini and (15) Chitra.
'Sushumna', 'Ida' and 'Pingla' are three primary
channels or 'nadis' and 'Shushumna' is of higher
importance out of these three. This channel is
like a minuscule tube which goes through the
spinal cord from around the anus upto the mind,
around the same place to its left starts the 'Ida'
channel and to it right lies the 'Pingla' channel
both leading up to the nostrils where around the
core they all merge with each other. Sushumna is
also known as 'Saraswati', Ida as 'Ganga' and
Pingla as 'Yamuna'. The point around anus where
they all gets diversified is also known as 'Mukt
Triveni'. Ida is called as 'Chandranadi' and Pingla
as 'Suryanadi'. When the left nostril is exhaling in
force it is known as Ida or 'chandraswar' and if it
going out of the right nostril with force then it is
known as Pingla or 'Suryswar' and when both the
nostrils are exhaling in rhythm then it is known
as 'Shushumnaswar'.
The swar in a healthy human beginning from the
dawn keeps moving from one swar to another at
the interval of 2.5 'ghadis' and so in one full day
the exhaling keeps going on through each nostril
for about 12 times. In ailment or common cold
one gets immediate relief by changing the swar or
exhaling. When the 'Chadraswar' is working one
should concentrate on permanent work requiring
little efforts or management, drinking milk or
water, passing urine, travel or chanting are preferred.
And when 'Suryswar' is working one
should indulge in hard tasks involving higher
efforts, adventurous journeys, hard work, eating,
excretion, bathing and sleeping etc. are suggested.
When both the swar's are working or changing
frequently then one should indulge in yoga or
holistic religious work. If 'Shushumnaswar' is not
working then one should do 'Praanyaam' before
meditation. Normally 'Praanayaam' is a physical
process of inhaling and exhaling breaths which
empowers the lungs and improves blood circulation
and thus leading to long life and complete
health. As per the physical sciences lungs are
those organs which oxygenates the blood in the
body which in turn reaching all parts of body
helps in detoxifying physique by carrying out
carbonic gases through exhaling. If this process is
happening properly it guarantees the strength of
lungs and blood purification keeps going on.
It has been observed that most people are not
used to deep breathing, they are used to shallow
breathing only in which only one fourth of the
lungs are used and the remaining three fourth is
almost never comes into use. Lungs have around
7 crore and 30 lakh sponge brackets as similar to
that of a beehive. In shallow breathing only 2
crores out of them are used and the remaining 5
crore and 30 lakh stay inactive and as a result of
this inactivity they start accumulating dirt and
dust which then leads to dangerous diseases like
Tuberculosis, Cough, Bronchitis etc.
And hence, inactivity of lungs affects the proper
blood purification process and untimely death
awaits and in this situation the importance of
'Praanayaam' comes into play for long life. Many
diseases could simply be cured by following
'Praanayaam' easily. By gaining this knowledge of
'Praanvayu' one could help the mankind and
himself to stay healthy and live a happy long life.
This is the reason why 'Praanayaam' has been
included in daily life style across all rituals as a
necessary religious activity. Many mental ailments
like seizures, tension, disappointment, fear
and lust could be easily resolved with
'Praanayaam'. Not just this much but to increase
many a brain functions like memory, sharpness,
sensual predicaments, farsightedness or vision,
acute observation, beliefs, consciousness and
intellect could be raised many folds leading to a
happy long life.
'Praanayaam' is not just inhaling or exhaling of
breath but it is just its beginning, there are many
'Praanayaams' where one does not need to inhale
or exhale even, as they primarily depend on
attraction and reflection of 'Praanvayu'.
Conserving 'Praanvayu' leads to trance and as a
result man could control time and thus live a
healthy and happy long life and could denounce
life as easily. Body and mind works with the
power of life only and one who could control its
'Praanvayu' could control all functions of its body
and mind and becomes resourceful. All such legislations
come under 'Praanayaam' and it has
been explained so well as-
Farmers tive of caste, state or community
areneglected in absence of any strong
organization, education and awareness. It
is really unfortunate that farmer, toiling
land to feed millions, himself is partially
fed. And the situation is continuing since
decades. The touts are millionaire and the
producer and the biggest consumer
farmer, is in pitiful condition.
he farmers of India are
suffering since decades
because of illiteracy. But it
could come to an end with education,
awareness and strong organization.
History shows that suppression
of farmers' has been continuing
since ages. In British rule,
systematic effort to disintegrate
farmers' power began with weakening
his resources and finance
system. Alas, in independent
India, same situation continued
and in face it turned from bad to
worst. Traditionally, the position
of farmers' was respectful in
Indian society.
Urban-rural, agriculture-industrytrade
had a respectful relationship.
Plight of
Indian farmers
The major part of income from
farming was distributed at local
level. The money was utilized for
the salary to carpenters, black
smith, barbers and operation of
educational system, maintenance
of inns, temples, mosques and
other religious places. A small
fraction was given to ruler or to
urban areas. This system had minimum
suppression but British rule
demolished entire system and
introduced `zamindari` system.
Some people from the village were
designated as `zamindars`, `beldars`
and were left free to commit
atrocities. Till decades, they continued
to commit excesses on their
own people. Whenever, people
opposed inhuman action, they
were mercilessly suppressed. These
elements acted as pawns of British
rule and domestic rulers and with
Agriculture
and farmers
are in pathetic
conditions. To
improve the
situation,
immediate
efforts are
needed. But it
is very difficult
job.
YS_SEP ENG_2011-4.qxd 8/26/2011 4:34 PM Page 41
their support, they committed
excesses on their own people.
History speaks that Indian money
lenders, traders and so called
intellectuals did not support justified
battle of farmers. And this
was the beginning of disintegration
of strong Indian society and
British ruled India for over 400
years on divide and rule policy.
Alas, British rule did not spare
anyone later. But most unfortunate
part is that even after
Independence, policies remained
unchanged. Policies are still
against farmers whether it be the
issue of genuine value of their produce
or land acquirement.
Peasants did not get justice irrespective
of the Government, ruling
the state.
BT cotton, BT brinjal and lady finger
are still promoted. The governments
elected by the farmers are
advocating and supporting the
cause of seed companies. Such
international and domestic traders
are earning heavy profits and
farmers have no option except
committing suicide. According to
Government data every hour one
farmer, burdened of heavy debt
ends his life. Prices have sky rock-
eted but middlemen are still
happy. Big companies and groups
have entered retail market and
now even small traders and shopkeepers
would be the worst sufferers.
Governments are being controlled
by markets dominated by
such big companies. This is the
real picture of agriculture and its
mesmerism. The most unfortunate
part is that so called progressive
and intellectuals are also, knowing
or unknowingly acting as an agent
of such companies. Another cause
of concern is that scientists, working
in agriculture universities and
agriculture research centres are
not working in practical terms and
not giving proper advice to the
farmers. As a result, seed and fertilizer
dealers, who have no or
very less knowledge of farming are
selling seeds and other related
items. Most of the people in country
are consuming oxitosin mixed
milk and vegetables, watermelon
and pappya, sweetened with
sacrine, pulses and
adulterated `mawa` and ghee. We
shall always remember that for
prosperity of the nation, growth
and development of farmers is
necessary. For permanent development,
the society shall be farmers'
friendly. Farmers are regularly
subjected to suppression and there
is no dearth of such examples.
Some farmers say that if we start
keeping account of farming and
farmers like traders, then farming
work would suffer. In developed
nation, consumer visits farmer's
village similar to the farmers going
to nearby markets for products in
India. This would also force urban
population to visit nearby villages
but this is possible only when
farmers start marketing of wheat
and milk made produces. In true
senses, Indian farmers would be
strengthened only when they start
marketing of their produces.

History shows
that suppression
of farmers'
has been
continuing
since ages.
In British rule,
systematic
effort to disintegratefarmers'
power
began
with weakening
his
resources and
finance system.
Alas, in independent
India, same situationcontinued
and in face
it turned from
bad to worst.
he ointments prepared using
the juices of the flowers on
applying on the skin not only
improves its tone but also pleases our
mind with its aroma and fragrance.
The best thing is that flower medication
does not have any ill effects. By
wearing flowers they raise the glory,
radiance and grandeur of the body.
Their aroma cures many diseases also.
The fragrant or aromatic atoms of
flowers get mixed with the environment
and on reaching the nose membrane
their fragrance creates different
effects on different parts of mind and
create a pleasant stimulation. Their
fragrance has symbolic positive effects
on the mind, heart, eyes, ears and
digestive system. They reduces the
stress immediately and clinical treatments
using their fragrance is also
known as 'Aromatherapy'. Here some
medicinal uses of few flowers have
been explained briefly, necessary
information could be obtained from
here on and used profitably in curing
common diseases.
Lotus: There is a strong relationship
between the lotus and Goddess
Lakshmi (signifying richness and
wealth). The lotus represents growth
in nature. The honeybee makes honey
with its pollens and the flower is used
to prepare Gulkand. Gulkand is used
as a medicine to cure constipation and
other diseases. One can see green colored
seeds inside the lotus flower,
which are roasted to make makhana.
If the raw seeds are peeled and taken
as a medicine, it increases strength
and vigor. It is cold in nature. It is used
as eyeliner along with honey to
improve the eyesight. The lotus leaves
can be used as a cosmetic as well.
Grind the lotus leaves and mix them
with the ubatan (a pack made out of
gram flour, raw milk, curd and 1/2
teaspoon turmeric powder) and apply
on the face. Rub it gently on the face,
the skin glows and the face looks
beautiful.
Kewda (Pandanus) : It has a nice
fragrance like Kasturi (musk). This
flower removes odors and fills the
atmosphere with fragrance. Kewda oil
is beneficial for respiratory problems
and provides vitality. Its perfume
relieves headache and gout pain. Boil
the flowers in water and take bath
with this water, it is very beneficial in
cases of leprosy, itching, small pox and
heart diseases. A few drops of this
flower added to water gives relief in
headache and tiredness. In case of
fever one drop of kewda essence helps

the sweat to come out and the body
temperature comes down. In case of
severe pain in the ear, place two drops
of its perfume in the ear. It will
instantly relieve the pain.
Rose: Rose represents beauty, love
and affection. The gulkand made out
of rose is purgative in nature and
reduces the heat in the intestines and
stomach. It makes the heart and mind
cheerful. Wash the eyes with rose
water to reduce the redness of the eyes
and swelling. Its perfume is vitalizing
and its oil makes the mind cool. A few
drops of rose essence is used in sweet
dishes. It provides coolness during the
hot summer season.
Champa (fragrant yellow flower):
Grind champa flowers and apply it on
the skin affected with leprosy. A few
drops of this flower destroy the germs
present in the blood. Dry the flowers
and make a fine powder, use this powder
to get relief from itching. Champa
cures fever, improves the eyesight and
gives strength and energy to men.
Aniseed (Saunf): Aniseed contains
a lot of beneficial qualities. Boil
the aniseed flowers in water; add cardamom
and a few mint leaves in the
water. It is better to boil the leaves in a
ceramic pot and keep the water aside.
When the water gets cold, give one
teaspoon to small children and to
babies who are getting new teeth and
those who are suffering from extreme
heat. This reduces the stomachache
and the teeth will also grow in the correct
manner.
Marigold: Grow marigold flowers
near dirty ponds and near the surroundings
of the house to protect the
house from mosquitoes. It is also beneficial
in liver diseases, swelling of the
liver, stones and skin diseases.
Jasmine: This flower possesses a
very good fragrance and grows especially
in the summer season. Decorate
the house with Jasmine flowers. You
can keep a garland near you or in a
vase, which will give freshness and
fragrance. Its smell reduces the burning
sensation. Women who have the
problem of mild menstruation should
chew a few petals of this flower. The
menses cycle will become regular and
the menstruation also becomes normal.
Night Queen: Commonly known
as 'Raat ki Rani' possesses an extremely
good fragrance, which can be felt
from a long distance. The flower produces
fragrance from evening to midnight
and after that it gradually
reduces. Another advantage of this
flower is that mosquitoes are kept at
bay. Its fragrance makes the person
drowsy and puts one to sleep.
Sunflower: Sunflower contains
vitamins A and D. It cures diseases
which occur due to sunlight. Its oil is
especially beneficial for heart patients
and it reduces the level of cholesterol
in the blood.
Chameli: Oil of this flower is used in
skin diseases, pyaria, toothache,
wounds, eye diseases, boils, etc. It
increases the blood flow and activates
the entire body. In case of mouth
ulcers chewing the leaves of Chameli
provide instant relief. This flower also
contributes in providing mental happiness.
Saffron: This flower gives happiness
and glowing skin. It gives strength,
stops vomiting and destroys wind, bile
and phlegm related problems (all the
three dosha disorders). Saffron cools
down the anxiety and stress present in
different systems. Hence it is also
known as a natural tranquilizer. It
to cure constipation. Excess
consumption is harmful and can cause
dysentery, cramps in the stomach and
ill feeling.
Pomegranate: In case of bile related
eruptions on the body, prepare the
juice from the pomegranate flowers,
add sugar candy and drink it. Suck the
flowers to cure mouth ulcers. Pour the
juice of pomegranate bud to cure conjunctivitis.
The internal cells of flowers have special
liquid membrane particles and are
called as plastids. These particles live
till the time there is juice left in a
flower. These plastids are of two types,
1] Chromatic plastids and 2] Green
plastids. The coloured plastids are
known as chromatic plastids and they
are responsible for the various colours
of the flowers. The size and type of
chromatic plastids vary from flower to
flower. The most important plastid in
the plants is the green plastid as it not
just gives the green colour to the
plants but also prepares the food for
the plants. Green plastids prepare carbohydrates
like glucose in the presence
of carbon-dioxide gas, water and
sunlight through the process of photosynthesis.
Flowers refract colourful
rays of sunlight to our eyes through
which our body gets some negative,
positive and neutral light rays which
on reaching inside our body helps us
in fighting many types of illness. And
in this fashion we also get benefited by
the 'Colour Therapy' medication from
the flowers.
The fragrant
or aromatic
atoms of
flowers get
mixed with
the environment
and on
Becoming
a mother gives a new life
to a woman. This is the
creation of a new life. At such a time
the woman should take health precautions
along with right dietary plan
which could give the proper nutrition
to the mother and her baby both.
How to stay healthy during
pregnancy?
The most important time in the life of a
woman is during pregnancy. A pregnant
woman has to cover many obstacles and during
the birth has to bear excess pain to give
birth to her child. She could stay healthy during
her pregnancy by taking care of some
necessary things. The health related knowledge
should be shared along with the pregnant
women and her immediate family.
Normal Symptoms of pregnancy - [1]
Missing a period, [2] Nausea and vomiting,
[3] Tenderness of the breasts, [4] Changes in
taste and smell and [5] Frequent Urinating.
How to protect the
health of
mother
and child
Projecting Delivery Date from
the Menstrual Period:
The day of delivery or labor is just a projection
or merely an estimate. It is not important
that the baby would be delivered on this exact
date. Normally the delivery time is from 270-
290 days after the last menstrual period.
How to stay safe from the
stress of pregnancy:
If the pregnant woman is under any form of
mental stress then it directly affects the
health of the unborn child. Famous
Psychiatrist Leni Swati has written in her best
seller book 'World of the unborn' that, 'the
most important time in the life of a human is
the time actually before its birth.' The baby in
the womb is a conscious living being and its
unconscious mind keeps the memories of
this time intact in it. Such a baby could easily
assimilate the feelings of mother. A pregnant
woman should try to stay happy and optimistic
for the future of her baby.
The pregnant women should cover her head
with a towel and enjoy sunlight everyday for
sometime during pregnancy for calcium,
phosphorus and vitamin 'D'.
Mother creates a
new life. One creator
who creates a
new life form out
of their life should
be taken care of.
The diet of a pregnant woman:
During pregnancy the baby in the womb is dependent on its mother for nutrition and for which the mother
has to consume about 300 calories in excess to her normal dietary consumption. And so she specifically needs
energy, power and nutritional elements from time to time and a table is being given here in the same context-
Dietary Plan from the first month to the ninth
month after conception: As per
'Charaksanhita' a pregnant woman should
indulge in such food which is favourable for
her health.
Post Conception
First Month:- The pregnant lady should
drink sweet milk every morning and evening,
one spoon butter in the breakfast along with
one spoon grounded sugar and 2-3 powdered
black pepper mixed nicely. After this 2-3
pieces of coconut and 5-10 gm of fennel seeds
Seventh Month:- Same as sixth month
along with consuming 'Somghrit' regularly.
Eighth Month:- Consumption of milk,
pure ghee and 'Somghrit' should be continued.
Light dinner in the evening as in this
month women experience constipation normally
and so liquid should be added into the
diet. If the constipation still persists, 1-2
spoons of 'isabgol' could be consumed with
milk in the evening.
Ninth Month:- Normal diet should be continued
as other months just 'Somghrit' consumption
should be stopped completely.
Work that could be done during pregnancy-
1] The pregnant lady should try to stay
happy.
2] The expecting mother should read good
literature and should think about high
ideals of great people from the history.
3] Loose fitted clothes should be worn during
the pregnancy, tight clothes might
affect baby's health and it might lead to
some sort of handicap.
4] The daily life style should be regulated
and at regular intervals light food should
be consumed.
5] Should not stay empty stomach for long
duration during the pregnancy and light
food should be consumed at regular intervals.
6] If the lady is not feeling well, she should
eat sweets in moderate quantities.
7] Oily food items should be avoided.
8] Patience must be maintained during the
pregnancy and sex should be avoided.
9] Before consuming any medicines a regular
medical practitioner should be consulted.
10] If any deformity is found in the breasts of
the pregnant lady then it should immediately
be consulted.
Exercises
Highly strenuous exercises, hard work, jumping
should be avoided. Morning and Evening
walks are suggested in an open area.
The pregnant lady should go for regular
checkups, once every month for the first six
months and then onwards every 10-15 days.
During the last three month, blood pressure,
blood and urine should be tested frequently.
8-10 kg weight gets added on to the mother
and if weight gain is going out of control then
sweet and oily food should be reduced.
Tetanus etc. vaccines should be injected at the
right time during the pregnancy. Expecting
mothers following the sacred life style thus
could give birth to a healthy, beautiful and
best excellent child could be delivered.

The most
important
time
in the life
of a
human is
the time
actually
before its
birth…
The baby in
the womb
is a consciousliving
being
and its
unconscious
mind keeps
the memories
of this
time intact
in it…
Yoga
Ayurveda
Perspective
Ajit Singh
is the most ancient science of Bharat
(India). This science bestows us the
knowledge of of veda. And it is considered as
'Upaveda' also. In Rigveda, there are so many
mantras (magic spells) regarding Ayurveda are
available. Atharvaveda (Atharva science) is a treatise
that gives us detailed description of all diseases and
suggests their treatment . Ayurveda is considered to
be the sub-veda of this Atharvaveda. This is a science
of Yoga, which deals with age, health, welfare of
mankind. The prime goal of Ayurveda is - the treatment
for an ailment and prevention of a disease
(vyadhi-upasrishthanam vyadhiparariparokshah
swasthasya swasthyakshanam, Su. Sa. 1 - 12)
Ayurveda trol) to 'Pratyahara' (withdrawal), external
means of yoga is accepted. And the
rest 'Dharana' (concentration), 'Dhyana'
(meditation), 'samadhi' (union) are considered
as internal means. Yoga philosophers
considers that 'when the eight
parts of Yoga are accomplished, then all
kinds of impurities would be vanished
and immence prudence lights within.
Broadly speaking, external yoga practice
would be accomplished with the practice
of 'Hatha yoga' (kind of forced yoga)
and internal Yoga practice would be
accomplished with the practice of 'Raj
yoga'. First of all, Nath traditional sages
named those practices as 'Hatha
T
here is an interesting account
for the emergence of Ayurveda,
in the beginning of charaka
and susrita samhitas. Those are main
sources to know the tradition of
Ayurveda. Acharya Bharadwaja is considered
to be the pioneer of 'Kaaya
(body) chikitsa (treatment)' in the
modern times. In his tradition, 'Caraka
Samhita' has sublime regard as the
'greatest treatise' on medicine. Acharya
Dhanvantari was a pioneer of 'Shalya
Cikitsa (surgery)'. And 'Susrita
Samhita' is the authentic treatise in this
regard. Acharya Vagbhata wrote valuable
foundings on 'Ashtanga Hriday'.
And this article is based on these great
refereces.
yoga'and 'Raj yoga'. They said 'Without
Hatha yoga, Raj yoga is not achieved
and Without Raj yoga, we never imagine
the accomplishment of Hatha yoga'.
(Hatham vina rajayogom rajayogam
vina hathah. Na siddhayati tato
yugmamanishpatteh
Hence, for the accomplishment of complete
yoga, we need to practice two types
of exercises. To make it more legible, we
may say Hath yoga is a kind of yoga
which gives more importance to practice
with body and Raja yoga is a kind of
yoga which gives more importance to
practice with mind.
According to Hath Yoga, we can cure
many disorders, by the practice of
Asanas, Pranayama. While practicing
these YogAsanas, Pranayama, patients
can be relieved of diseases. Now a days,
Yoga
Prominent volumes of Yoga
In 'Patanjali Yogasutras', we find Eight
chapters of Yoga. So it is also known as
'Ashtanga Yoga'. From 'Yam' (self-con-
people suffer with many more diseases.
But whatever the disease may be, by the
regular practice of Asanas, Pranayama,
we control them and restore the normal
condition. Asanas, Pranayama show
miraculous results in patients.
Shatkarma
The Scholars of Ayurveda advised many
more remedies to cure the diseases and
restore health, in which Panca
Karmas…Snehan, Swedan, Vaman,
Virechan, Basti karmas are prescribed
prominently.
Indian sages, Yogis and Sanyasis advocated
Shatkarma (six actions) in which
1. Dhoti 2. Basti 3.Neti 4. Nauli 5. Tratak
6. Kapalabhati are the prime parts.
By practicing Astanga Yoga and Hath
Yoga etc, we get a healthy, sound and fit
body. And by the way, our inner soul
gains serenity, enthusiasm and a clear,
flawless, subtle intellect. Ayurvedic
medicines brings balancement among
vata, pitta and kapha. And Asanas,
Pranayama and Shatkarmas bestows
health to a person without taking any
external medication. The scholars of
Ayurveda thought that 'Satwa', 'Raja'
and 'Tam' etc qualities maintaining all
the three worlds. Just like that vata, pitta
and kapha qualities support our body to
sustain.
'Caraka Samhita' is the greatest treatise
on medicine. In the field of medical science
it is the book is ultimate authority.
We find Sankhya, Yoga, Nyaya,
Vaiseshika, Meemaamsa, Vedanta etc six
Astika (theistic) Darshanas (philosophies)
alongwith vyakarana (grammar)
etc. philosophical sutras (rules) in this
great volume, which are beautifully
depicted in a lucid style .
'Caraka Samhita'is an ancient treatise.
The great sage Caraka considered
Ayurveda is an eternal health science
and presented such kind of incontrovertible
arguments, in support of his
perspective. Ex- Ayurveda and its
knowledge belong to ancient period,
because the creation of Soul and conscience
are also ancient.
Thus Ayu (age) and Ved (science) are
eternal things. Thus Ayurveda is eternal.
The good and ill things and natures that
effect Ayurveda in this world always (in
the past, present and in future) are also
permanent. Their qualities, nature and
effect are also permanent. Ex - Fire
always burns things, in future also it does
so. In the same way, Caraka samhita provides
health in the present times means,
it protects our health in future also.
1] In Atharvaveda, physiology, medicine
and treatment parts are discussed
in detail.
2] Ayurveda is considered as upa (sub)
-veda of Atharvaveda. In
Atharvaveda some medicines like
Apamarga are also described.
Caraka Samhita is considered to be the
best medicinal science of Ayurveda,
which is a self - complete one in treatment
and prevention of diseases.
Yoga Education
One doubt is arised in Caraka
Samhita,'Katidhapurush?yash?r?r?dhy?
ya'?, means…Where the whole pain is
eradicated? Again answer is supplemented
by Caraka by saying - 'Yoga and
moksha (salvation) annihilate all pains,
In Moksha the core part of the pain is
fired off. Yoga is the ultimate means that
bestows Solvation.'
Characteristics of Yoga
Pleasure and Pain are related to the soul,
senses, conscience and money. When
our mind is consistent in our soul, then
it withdraws from pleasure and pain,
then the body would also be in control,
he would be in self - control. This state is
known as Yoga Samadhi. Yoga
Philosopher Maharshi (sage) Patanjali
told - 'Yoga stops all kinds of activities of
mind.'
Maharshi Patanjali considered that there
are five types of differences in the activities
of mind. Ex- Pramana (evidence),
viparyaya , vikalpa, nidra and smriti.
Pratyaksha, Anumana and Agama are
the three types of Pramanas. Mithya
jnan is viparyaya. Only unreal sound
knowledge is vikalpa. Nidra (sleep)
\supports the knowledge of Abhava
(Absence). And the matter which is felt
in our inner sense is called 'smriti'. All
these five feelings give us either pleasure
or pain. We can stop these feelings by
'Abhyasa' (practice) and 'Vairagya'
(uninterestedness). When these
Abhyasa and Vairagya are stopped, then
there would be no happiness or ache.
And in the absence of samskaras (good
and bad) there would not be rebirth.
Then the doors of salvation are opened
for us.
In Caraka Samhita, body should be
in control of soul, that means…
When our practice is accomplished
in Yoga, our body with all its five
elements, goes under the control of
Atman. Atman (soul) empowers our
body. If we decide to do a thing, we
would do it all by ourselves. We
would not be craving for sensual
pleasures then. And even the body
exists, we may lead our life without
Maya or Avidya, ignorance. Thus we
would become 'emancipated while
still alive'.

Yoga
philosophers
considers
that 'when
the eight
parts of Yoga
are accomplished,
then
all kinds of
Condition of
Hindi in
India
was recognized as official language of the country after the independence
in 1947. For centuries, Hindi has been our national language
or a language which connects people of one region to
another. Muslim rulers are credited with spreading the language
to Bengal and Assam. During the rule of Khilji dynasty, Hindi was
a language which connected people of north Indian cities and
towns. In 1265 AD, Alauddin Khilji invaded Devagiri in south
after which Hindi reached to South India. It is Hindi which is
credited with spreading Bhakti Andolan (Devotional Movement)
of medieval era in every household. Hindi is still a connecting
language or national language in this country. From Itanagar and
Izol to Kutch in Gujarat and From Kashmir to Kanyakumari in
Tamilnadu, Hindi connects people of this country. People of
Tamil Nadu have no problem in communicating in Hindi.
A
ccording to the census of 2001,
about 551.4 million people (55
crores) spoke Hindi in India. It
is estimated that this number has gone up
to 75-80 crores in 2011. The news papers
in Hindi and other Indian languages are
most read in the country than English
news papers. English news papers are
confined to the big cities like Delhi,
Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai. They
have no reach to the average citizens. The
demand for books published in Hindi has
also grown significantly. This fact was
number of Hindi readers thronged in the
book fair. Given the growing demand for
Hindi books and reality of the market,
Penguin Publishers had set up a separate
stall for Hindi books. According to a
report by National Book Trust (NBT), a
significant rise in the number of Hindi
publishers was witnessed in this book fair
in trade and advertisement. Hindi programmes
still growing. English is also predominant
in computer studies and internet. In our
proceedings and verdicts are made
in English. Moreover, Hindi is nowhere to

Hindi is the
language
which produced
unmemorable
literary creations.
But
unfortunately,
this language
is being
avoided by its
own people...
ironically the
youths of
present generation
are
showing
aloofness
towards Hindi
in India but at
the same time
it is being
seen that
Hindi is
acquiring a
respectable
position in
the foreign
countries.
Hindi is getting
special
recognition in
Britain and
USA.
be seen in the proceedings of Supreme
Court. It presents an ironical face of our
judicial system that people don't get justice
in their own language.
How longer this situation will continue?
When will our judiciary
allow us to communicate
before it in Hindi or other
Indian languages? Today, the
demand for education in
English medium is significantly
growing. Also the craze for English
medium public schools is growing.
But given the fact that 37 percent people
of this country live below poverty line
and they can't afford such a huge expanse
on English education. For these people
survival is the biggest challenge and they
earn their two ends meal with a great difficulty.
Even the government's official language
is English. English is predominantly
used in government and private offices.
The communications between union government
and state governments or among
state governments takes place in English
language. Every year, Hindi Divas, Hindi
week and Hindi related other functions
are observed in the government offices
where the promotion of Hindi language is
discussed as a major agenda. But in reality,
use of Hindi is hardly witnessed the in
government offices. Now it is a time to
change our mentality. Most countries in
the world use their national language as
their official language. Most of the government
works are done in their national languages.
But ironically, our ministers find it
very difficult to take oath of their office in
Hindi. In 2009 and 2010, most of our
union ministers took oath of their office in
English. Again it was a shameful incident
when a ruckus was created in the Lok
Sabha over use of Hindi in the house on
Aug'13, 2010. That day a union minister
was replying to a question in Hindi. An
MP created ruckus over it when due to
technical problems he could not be provided
with the English transcription of the
minister's reply. To some extent we can say
that Hindi is more respected or honoured
in the foreign countries. First in July 2007,
an International Hindi Conference was
observed at the UNO head office in New
York. The event was inaugurated by UNO
Secretary General. Again in 2009, a Yuva
Hindi Sansthan (A Hindi institution for
youth) was set up in New York for promoting
this language among people of
Indian Diaspora. This institute had organized
a ten days language camp between
June 19 to June 28, 2010 in Atlanta-
Georgia state in which 100 representatives
participated. This camp programmes was
sponsored by US government and other
major educational and research institutes
and reputed universities of the United
States of America. US government recog-
nizes Hindi as a major language of the
world which opens the door for Hindi education
in government schools and colleges
as a major foreign language in USA. US
government recognizes Hindi as a language
which has a major role in promoting trade
and diplomatic relationship between India
and USA. According to another news
report, Hindi is significantly spreading in
Hungary. Significantly, most of those who
are learning Hindi are the natives. It is witnessed
that people of all hues, like doctors,
engineers, women, students and senior
people also showing interest in learning
Hindi. Maria Ntzashika, a Hindi teacher in
"Indo-European Linguistic Institute"
appeals the government of India to release
more fund for scholarship so that more and
more people from Hungary could visit
India to learn Hindi especially for PHD
degree. A lot of Hungarian literature has
been translated in Hindi and vice versa.
Maria herself is associated with Hindi and
India for over 25 years (Nai Dunia, Noida,
05.09.10). Mahatma Gandhi
Antarrashtriya Hindi Vishwavidyalaya,
Wardha, is playing an important role for
the promotion of Hindi across the world.
The university is making best efforts in
association with foreign universities to promote
Hindi as an international language. It
is working as a coordinator to cater the
studies of various subjects in Hindi medium
in the foreign universities. For the sake
of readers of Hindi across the world, this
university has provided the texts from
Bhartendu era (1900) to 1950 for free on its
website. The total content of Hindi literature
available on its website
'hindisamay.com' amounts to over one lakh
pages. Now it is high time to promote
Hindi as a global language and an official
language of UNO. Our Foreign Minister
has estimated that this campaign will cost
about 14 million dollar annually. Its good
thing to promote Hindi globally and work
to get it recognized as an official language
of UNO. But at the same time, we need to
explore the answer of the question… are we
doing justice with Hindi in our own country?
It is constitutional responsibility of the
government of India and all state governments
to get Hindi recognition as India's
official and national language. Our political
leaders, Members of Parliament and
members of state legislatures also have
onus for promotion of Hindi. Are they not
interested in promoting Hindi and other
regional languages which are used by over
1000 million people in this country.
English, which actually rules over people of
this country, doesn't have any acquaintance
with the large part of people who live in
rural India. How longer this foreign language
will be allowed to rule over our fellow
citizens. We have to ponder over the
condition of Hindi in this country.
Hindi: A
simple and
magnificent
language
Mahatma Gandhi gave
a speech on BBC after
independence of India.
In his speech, he said
that 'tell the world that
Gandhi has forgotten
English. If am made an
autocratic ruler of
India, I will immediately
stop education
for our children in
English medium. I will
ask all the teachers not
to use English as a
medium of education.
I won't wait till curriculum
Use of Hindi is a must
for our national
integrity and brining
prosperity in this
country. I have no
problem in letting our
youth studying foreign
languages like English.
But I can't tolerate it if
they are aloof to their
mother tongue, if they
feel ashamed in speaking
in their mother
tongue or they avoid it.
I just can't tolerate it to
see that Indians have a
disdainful attitude
towards Hindi or other
Indian languages. If
the English language
gets a place in our
country for only two
days, it will be enough
to smudge our own
culture and civilization
forever. We need some
from English to Hindi
is just nothing but a
lame excuse.
Netaji Subhash was born in Bengal and was avid supporter
of his home state and mother tongue but for the unity
and nationalism, he supported Hindi to become a the national
language. While in India, he continuously pressed to declare
Hindi as national language and in support in Berlin, Germany,
he established Free India Centre. When he announced free
India Government, he accepted `Jai Hind` as slogan for mutual
greeting.
Kusum Budlakoti
`Jana-gana-mana` and for
national language, he supported
Hindi. It is very clear that
Subhash Chandra Bose had farsightedness.
He knew that to make
India powerful and impressive, a
national language is required and
only Hindi could be the national
language.
While speaking in the Congress
convention, held at Calcutta on 29
December 1928, as the Chairman
of the Welcome Committee, he
supported Hindi as National language
and the manner in which he
spoke clearly shows his love for
Hindi. In his speech he said that
probably among us, there are a few
people who are afraid that Hindi
speaking people want to force
national language asHindi. But this
doubt is baseless. The objective
behind promoting Hindi is whatev-
Subhash
continued with Hindi in future. He
said that he loves Bangla more than
his beloved mother but to interact
with other people in different
regions of the nation, knowledge of
Hindi of essential. He said that
youths of Independent India shall
also learn Germanor French or any
of the European languages besides
Hindi to stay afloat atthe international
standard. Otherwise they
would not be able to competeother
youths. He said that he wants to dispel
one misconception that Bengla
people areanti-Hindi or have indifferent
sentiments. This misconception
prevails not only in illiterate
but even in educated people. He
said that it is totally baseless and it
is my duty to contradict it. I do not
have vainglory but still I would like
to clarify that besides Hindi speaking
people, if any other language
people have promoted Hindi, than
it is Bengalis. Whatever Maharshi
of Hindi and Devnagari, whatever
late Bhudev Mukharjee did, can
asked. In Punjab late Naginchandra
Rai made relentless efforts to popularize
Hindi, which is really unforgettable.
He said `I have heard that
the work was done by Bengla
speaking people in 1880, when
Hindi speaking people in Bihar and
Punjab did not recognize the
importance of Hindi and many
were even opposing it. These people
could be said as true guide for
agitation launched for Hindi. In
joint province (now Uttar Pradesh),
the owner of Indian Press late
Chintamani Ghose had served
Hindi throughout his life as it is
difficult to find his comparison
even in Hindi publishing industry.
Justice Shardacharan Mitra had
also done praiseworthy work to
spread and popularize Hindi.
`Hitwarta` was launched by a
Bengali person. `Hindi Bangwasi`
is still being published by a Bangla
speaking person. Many Bangla
speaking people are still promoting
Hindi. It would be ungratefulness
to forget Amritlalji, who is serving
Hindi since past 45-46 years.
`Kavivar` Ravindranath has translated
100 poems of Kabir in
English and Kshitimohan of Shanti
Niketan did research on saints and
seers and thus, helped Hindi a lot.
Since last 15 years, Nagendranath
Basu is doing relentless service
with `Hindi Kosh`. Ramanand
Chatarjee is also serving Hindi.
Many tracts and books in Bengla
language have been translated in
Hindi, which has improved knowledge
of Hindi speaking people. I do
not boast but want to ask politely
that after knowing all this, still anyone
has courage to say that we are
opponents of Hindi.
Bhut means past in Hindi. But normally
the people imply that Bhut means ghost.
Actually it is a wrong notion.
Just think, how can something that has become
past, will return? ‘Bhut’ or ghost is nothing but
our misplaced belief. Just get rid of such things
and be brave.
Our fear is
Actually tha Ghost
There
was a boy who was highly afraid of
ghost. His family members started
sending him to a saint to get him free
from the ghost fear. But even on the way to the
saint, the boy would move fear of ghost. One day,
it was a dark night. When the boy reached to the
saint that night, he was doused in sweat and was
heavily breathing. The saint asked… what happened?
The child replied… sir, actually a ghost
came across me when I was on the way to your
place. I was barely survived. The saint gave him a
small packet of powder and said that if you meet
the ghost again, just rub it on his face, he will
never frighten you again. Next day the boy again
came to the saint. He was looking happy. He said
that he rubbed the powder on the face of the
ghost. The saint replied… it’s great! The ghost will
never come to you. Then he passed the boy a mirror
and asked him to look into it. When the boy
looked into the mirror, he was ashamed to she
that he had rubbed the powder given by the saint
on his own face. The saint smiled and said, “Son!
There is nothing like ghost or witch. It’s just your
wrong notion. You were afraid of your misplace
beliefs. Just get rid of such things and be brave.
Actually thousands of people are living under the
impression of such wrong beliefs.”
Lesson
Dear children! Actually those who are dead are
Bhoot or past and their dead bodies are like ghost.
Rest of all are wrong beliefs. Those who believe in
the existence of ghost are always in pain while those
who are free from such notions are always happy.

Wheat
Wheat bran is
very good for
our health
J.N. Somani
bran is miscellaneous medicine to prevent constipation. The use of
wheat bran gives following advantages also.
1] It prevents our excrement from getting dried.
2] It causes a good stimulation in our intestine which is very natural. You can
experience it by the behavior of animals when they are discharging their
excrements.
3] It keeps our excrements soft which allows their easy discharge. Easy discharge
of excrements means no stress on our arteries. Stress on our arteries can cause
diseases like piles, gastrointestinal diseases and weakening of our digestive
system.
4] Bran has a rough appearance. But when it comes in contact with saliva it
becomes soft, it absorbs a large quantity of saliva which is very useful in
digesting our food.
5] Bran is very useful from every point of view. By removing bram from our
meal we are doing a great injustice to our health. The chapaties made of flour
without bran are harmful as it is very difficult to digest it.
6] Bran makes our stomach clear. It helps in discharging all the excrements out
our bowels and keep the stomach clean and clear which is very good for our
health.
7] Give importance to bran in your meal. Add as much amount of it in your
meal as possible. Add it in your flour for making Chapaties. Add it in vegetables,
milk, curd, salad, honey and enjoy your meal. Make Laddu by adding
husk in jiggery.
8] Its regular use keeps away the deadly diseases like cancer. It also helps in healing
the sores in the arteries of our digestive system. It also protects us from
tuberculosis and heart diseases. Bran also protects us from cholesterol. Using
bran for bathing is very effective in skin diseases.
9] Eat bran rich diet regularly if you want to keep yourself healthy.
10] Those who use sufficient amount of bran in their diet, are always protected
from the diseases like appendicitis, intestinal diseases, piles, and anal cancer.
11] Bran is a greatly useful in reducing weight. If we use sufficient amount of bran
in our diet, then we don’t need to reduce our meal for losing weight. It automatically
helps us to lose our weight.
12] Bran is very effective in fighting blood sugar.
13] Bran rich biscuits, chapattis made of potato and bran and Halwa made of bran
are very tasty and healthy.
14] Add bran in carrot Halwa. Bran makes Missi roti (chapati made of a mixture
of various types of flours). Bundi raita (A recipe made of curd) added with
bran is very delicious.
15] Add bran in Idali, dosa and Kachori for delicious taste and good health. Add
bran in Sarso ka Saag (a vegetable made of mustard oil).
16] But always be careful that the bran you add in your meal, it has to be clean,
fresh and germ-free.
17] Regular use of bran in our meal sharpens our mind, make us intelligent
because bran keeps our bowels clear. That means there is no constipation.
Constipation is the root of almost all diseases.
18] Bran has a basic nature. Its this nature is very helpful in fighting diseases.
19] Among all kinds of fibers in our meal, wheat bran is considered to be the best.
20] Bran is rich in proteins, vitamin A, fats, carbohydrates, calories, fiber, sodium,
potassium, copper, sulphur, chlorine, zinc.
Lipstick or
lead-stick
pink, ripe and pulpy lips are seen as the centre of
Beautiful attraction in the personality of a woman. A slight
contraction or expansion in the muscles of lips reflects different
expressions on the face of a lady. Sometimes such changes
reflect erotic expressions; sometimes they reflect hatred and
jealousness. Expressions of lips also reflect pride and depression.
For a child, a mother conveys love and affection by changing
expressions of her lips.
Our poets have composed
superb songs and poetries in
admiration of the beauty of
lips. Expression of love and affections
are not possible without kissing. A
woman always tries to look beautiful.
She always cherishes a dream to be a
centre of attraction for everyone. For
this she uses various cosmetic products.
If you are a lady and use beautyproducts,
just think twice before using
a lipstick… just be sure that your lipstick
doesn't contain deadly chemicals
like lead. Certain researches have
revealed that your lipsticks also con-
tain blood of animals besides lead.
Laboratory researches
by some
institutes revealed
shocking facts
Since ancient time, artificial colours
are used for making lips appear beautiful.
Natural colours were used in the
beginning, but later readymade lipsticks,
lip-glows, lip pencils came in
practice. Today, lipstick is the cosmetic
product which is used the most by
women. They never forget to carry a
lipstick in their purse. But is the lipstick
safe for your health? Have you
ever cared of the fact that your lipstick
might contain deadly chemical like
lead. In 2007, a US based organization
'Campaign for Cosmetic' conducted
an impartial laboratory test of 33
international lipsticks brands. The
result was astonishing. A high
amount of lead was found in the
products of most of the brands.
For the next two years, consumers
and USA senators
pressed FDA. Later FDA agreed
to conducting research and make
its findings public. Its report also
revealed the similar results and found
that huge amount of lead is present in
most of the products. But no effective
step was taken to ensure the safety of
consumers. Consumer Education and

research society of Ahmedabad also
conducted laboratory test of 43 brands
of lipsticks produced by 19 companies
in India. It was found that all brands
contained lead. The lipstick which
costs Rs 10 in the market contained 2-
17 PPM lead while those which cost
Rs 100 and more contained 11-23
PPM lead. The lipstick product which
has long durability contained higher
amount of lead.
Conduct a test
before use
There is a simple method to know
about the presence of lead in your lipstick.
Take a bit of lipstick on your
palm and rub it with your golden ring
for some time. If its colour changes
and it becomes black, it is an indication
of the presence of lead in your lipstick.
Presence of lead in
the lipstick is
hazardous for the
health of the user
Scientists have not yet made it clear
that which amount of lipstick is safe
for a lipstick user. If a lady uses lipstick
many times in a day, the lead present
in it keeps accumulating in her body.
A woman unwillingly eats about two
kilograms of lipstick in her life if she
regularly uses lipstick. Lead is very
dangerous for our artery system. It
reduces the mental abilities of a
woman. It reduces the memory power
and IQ of a woman. It badly affects the
nervous system which enhances irritation
in a lady. Lead also badly affects
the menstruation cycle of a lady and
can make her impotent. It can be
responsible for miscarriage of pregnant
leady. Lead can also badly affect a
man and can make him impotent.
During pregnancy, the lead present in
the body of a mother somehow diffuses
in the blood of the unborn child. It
can cause dangerous deformities in
the child after birth. Lead is responsible
for weakening our immune system
and in many cases it has been found
that it is responsible for deadly diseases
like cancer.
I am giving you the tips to keep your
lips healthy and beautiful by applying
natural methods. I believe that hemoglobin
present in our blood is sufficient
to make one's lips look beautiful.
Hemoglobin which is made of iron
keeps every part of our body bright,
glowing, healthy and energetic. To
maintain a good level of hemoglobin
in your body you should regularly eat
fresh green vegetables, fresh and juicy
fruits and protein rich diet.
Just apply following methods to keep
your lips beautiful and healthy.
Take 4-5 petals of rose, mash them
and extract the juice and apply on
your lips just two or three times a day.
It will keep your lips soft and beautiful.
You can prepare a milk cream by
adding milk cream in the juice of rose
petals. Just apply this preparation on
your lips for 20 minutes and wash it
with water and see the results. It will
make your lips very bright and glowing.
The same way you can apply biet
juice 4-5 times every day on your lips
and wash it after 20 minutes. It will
give you a glowing beauty. You can
apply olive oil, clove oil or ghee on
your lips. It will also make your lips
soft and shining. It is also useful in
healing the wounds and cracks on
your lips. To keep your lips soft and
shining you can also apply a mixture
of olive oil and lemon juice or honey
added with sugar. Let us also use
Ayurvedic and natural methods for
our health and beauty.
Today, lipstick
is the
cosmetic
product
which is
used the
most by
women.
They never
forget to
carry a lipstick
in their
purse. But is
the lipstick
safe for your
health? Have
you ever
cared of the
fact that
your lipstick
might contain
Bhagat Singh was born in a reputed Sikh fami-
were Khalsa Sikhs, who played key role in theestablishment
of Sikh state under the guidance of Maharaj Ranjit
Singhand opposed aggression of notorious Pathans in
west and atrocious Britishpeople in the east. To sacrifice
for the nation, the family was rewarded by Sikh rulers
he age of Bhagat Singh was not
even 14 years, when he was associated
with revolutionary organizations
of Punjab, fighting for the sake of the
nation. In 1921 non-cooperation movement
of Mahatma Gandhi did not succeed and
some youths decided to adopt a different
way from Gandhiji's non-violence. A new
group emerged in Punjab, which was Babbar
Akalis. The real revolutionary life of Bhagat
Singh began from Kanpur when he became
an integral part of an organized revolutionary
party. KK Khullar had, in his book
`Shaheed Bhagat Singh- kuch adhkule
panne` mentioned that once a lower court
asked Bhagat Singh as what is meaning of
revolution for him? He said revolution does
not necessarily mean violence. Personal
revenge, bombs and firearms too have no
place in revolution. Revolution's
meaning for us is to bring change in the
present system, based on injustice.
Production and laborers are essential components
of the society but an atrocious section
deprives them from their genuine
rights. Thus, farmer, who produces grain for
millions does not have adequate food, weaver,
who supplies cloths to the world does not
have adequate cloths for himself and family.
Mason, black smith, carpenters construct
palatial houses but live in dirty and seedy
houses as untouchables.
Millionaires and exploiters in the society
spend millions of rupees to meet their obsessions
but many people do not have money to
meet both ends. These discrepancies in the
society would ultimately lead to anarchy in
the society. The situation could not be prolonged
and it is clear that the society is on a
volcano, which could erupt anytime. If the
civilization system is not saved, it would collapse
ultimately. The situation needs drastic
change and the change could be brought by
those, who believe in socialism. Till this
His youthfulness
They dreamt of freedom
And celebrated day of death,
change is not made, people exploit others,
nations exploit others, pain and ,insult generated
as a consequence would continue. All
discussions to end confrontation, war and
bring peace make no sense. The meaning of
revolution is to establish a system in the
society which does not face such dangerous
situation, in which prominence is being
given to sovereignty of the depressed class in
which humanity and the society gets free
from the capitalism and disaster of war. This
is our motive and taking inspiration from
this philosophy, we have given an adequate
and loud warning. Revolution is the birthright
of a human being. Independence is the
ageless and birth right of every person. The
life and death of Shaheed Bhagat Singh
clearly says that a person could be suppressed
but not his views. Personality like
Bhagat Singh takes birth once in a century.
He embraced death to make sure that others
may live.
Bhagat Singh's mind was disturbed and was
pained at the lost glory of the nation. He
restored the lost pride and also the confidence.
He gave a new direction to the concept
of independence. In his opinion, independence
without freeing the nation from
poverty, hunger and illiteracy is incomplete.
In his opinion independence means something
beyond capturing the bungalow of
viceroy or increase in number of seats in
Parliament. Freeing India from the shackles
of Britain was just a part of his strategy. He
wanted to get rid of all shackles. He wanted
a true social democracy in which weaker
section gets security and 86 percent illiterate
persons could get educated. He wanted to
make slum dwellers happy, whose life has
been crippled due to loans they had taken
and illness. Such people make 92 percent of
the population of the nation, living in 5 lakh
villages. Bhagat Singh had made a planning
to bring happiness to the faces of millions of
deprived and oppressed people, suffering
from decades. This is the reason as why
Bhagat Singh is different from other freedom
fighters.
Bhagat Singh, a prominent figure in the freedom
struggle of the nation, laid his life for
the sake of nation and embraced death.
There are many such fighters and they were
so happy to die for the nation that they
gained weight before going to the gallows.
Writing the history of these fighters is not an
easy job as planning are always kept top
secret and only a few had information of it.
Decentralised development
necessary for growth
of nation -Swami Ramdev
Karma, knowledge and devotion are messages from
mother earth
13 new swadeshi sales counter would be opened -
Acharya Balkrishna
Farming of herbals would bring beauty and happiness
on hills
Haridwar. A training camp of members of different NGOs, who
came from remote hilly areas of Uttarakhand held at Patanjali
Yogpeeth. Agriculture is a very sacred work and in the core of
everything, it is mother earth. Yoga controls depression and
hence practicing yoga is essential. Only decentralized development
could take the nation forward. In the hilly areas, development
of herbals shall be done, which would bring prosperity and
greenery to the hills.
Yogrishi Swami Ramdevji Maharaj expressed these views in
Patanjali yogpeeth while addressing trainers of NGOs, working
in the hilly areas of the state. Revered Swami Ramdev welcomed
all the brothers, sisters who had come from remote hilly areas of
the state and blessed them. He said Uttarakhand is the land of
holy men and deities. He told that as old is the universe so is our
Himalaya and in fact, it is the originating point of universe.
Swamiji said that NGO constituted for the upliftment of the people,
living in hills would bring regular earning and prosperity. He
said that you are earning with pure and sacred means. In ancient
time, seers and kings did farming. Even Maharaj Janak ploughed
land. Agriculture is a sacred job
and a source of grains. In fact, land is the pivotal point, which
energizes the mankind. Many new sources of earning are coming
in the market regularly but we shall adopt swadeshi. We would
have to uplift villages and poverty ridden people.
The nation would move forward with decentralized development
and we all shall work together to make the nation strong.

Every person shall dispose-of his duty responsibly. Swamiji said
that the life of hills is very difficult and challenging but despite all
problems we have to protect and conserve life, youthfulness,
forests and herbals. He said all citizen of the nation shall be
strong, competent and healthy so that a cultured nation could be
built. On the occasion herbal medicine expert Acharya
Balkrishna said that herbal medicines are available in India since
Vedic era. Rigveda and other sacred
and spiritual books have mentioned that availability of herbal
medicines in India is as old as 15,000 years. Many seers and holy
men were living in ashrams and gurukuls, set-up in remote
forests where they also conducted research and study on medicines.
Acharyaji said that in 13 federations, new sales centres
would be established where products of Patanjali yogpeeth
would be available and also, they
would purchase farmers' produces. Acharyashri said that he
want to promote herbals being found on hills. He exhorted all
the people to plant herbal saplings in the backyard of their hous-
Address - In Patanjali Yogpeeth, Acharya Balkrishnaji
Maharaj addressing trainers of NGOs.
es. It would further beautify Uttarakhand. He expressed concern
on the large scale migration from the hills. He said that to stop
migration Patanjali yogpeeth is promoting agriculture with the
help of non Government Organisations (NGOs) so that large
scale migration could be stopped. He told that the people would
return to forests, which would improve greenery and prosperity.
This is also an oath, taken by Patanjali yogpeeth and every effort
is being made to meet the challenge.
Guru Purnima celebrated in Patanjali II with traditional
fervor
Company of `sadguru`
tides over problems
Swami Ramdev
Guru Purnima is a festival of dedication and submergence
Haridwar. On the occasion of Guru Purnima, the occasion
was celebrated in Patanjali Yogpeeth (two) with traditional
fervor and gusto. The participants expressed gratitude towards
guru and pledge to follow the path shown by him. In company
of guru, a devotee could reach the stage of extreme of spiritualism.
Devotion for guru has long tradition. Many devotees,
who have
come from abroad and over 500 districts of the nation, put
vermillion on the forehead of Yogrishi Swami Ramdev, performed
arti and took his blessings. On the occasion Yogrishi
Swami Ramdev said that we are the children of almighty. He
said that on the occasion he bows to the almighty, parents and
gurus as it is rightly said that `guru Brahma, guru Vishnu and
guru is Maheshwar. Guru is Brahma. India is a nation of seers
and spiritual leaders. He told that on the occasion of Guru
Purnima, all shall take pledge to make India a world leader. He
said that we shall live and think according to our saints and
seers, who were in ancient period. For Guru Purnima, he said
that this is a festival of devotion. Whatever we get in the life
period shall be accepted but never forget the basic tradition.
Swamiji said that our culture and tradition, both are very
ancient. Swamiji also talked of `shikha`, `sutra` and 16 `sanskars`.
He said that we should respect all castes, creeds, reli-
gions without forgetting basic culture of Vedas. This is the
basic rule of our religious tradition. He exhorted that we shall
not forget our basic values in the modern time. Swamiji said
that we want this nation to be religious as 99 percent people
believe in super power and god. India has been the nation of
seers and religious peoples. He said that we never believe in
hatred or division of the society. We want India to be spiritual
nation and all religious leaders agree to it. On the occasion
Herbal medicine expert Acharya Balkrishnaji Maharaj said
that in Indian tradition, Guru has been placed at the top in
the hierarchy. According to our tradition, no knowledge
could be gained without guru.
Parents are the real while almighty is the true guru. The tradition
of teacher and student is very old and
mythological books like Vedas, Upnishads,
Ramayan, Mahabharat and others have
many related stories. Sri Ram, Sri
Krishna, Upmanyu, Eklavya,
Chadragupta Mourya, Chatrapati Shivaji and
Swami Vivekanand all were the model students,
to be followed. He said that Saints, Gurus and
Acharyas have a living standard and if we all could
bring ourselves with that standard, we could also
have living standard of a saint. On the occasion,
many persons put-on `yagyopavit`. After Yagna, the
programme concluded. Swamiji said his followers to
dedicate their energy to the nation, which would be
his guru dakshina. He also congratulated all the people
of the nation and world on Guru Purnima.
