To 43 mm.<br />
Distribution<br />
In <strong>Australia</strong>, south-eastern <strong>Australia</strong> from <strong>New</strong> South Wales (Nadgee Reserve) to South<br />
<strong>Australia</strong> (Spencer Gulf) <strong>and</strong> south-eastern Tasmania, southern South America (Miers 1881),<br />
Tristan da Cunha (Sheppard 1957), <strong>New</strong> Zeal<strong>and</strong> (Hurley 1961), South Africa (Kensley<br />
1978), <strong>and</strong> an unlikely record from the Solomon Isl<strong>and</strong>s.<br />
Remarks<br />
Paridotea ungulata is an easily recognised species with a characteristic excavate pleotelson<br />
<strong>and</strong> acute posterolateral angles. The pleotelson <strong>of</strong> P. miersi could be described in the same<br />
way but it is different in detail; the latter has smaller dorsal coxal plates than P. ungulata.<br />
We have examined material from South Africa <strong>and</strong> <strong>New</strong> Zeal<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> can see no differences<br />
between these <strong>and</strong> the <strong>Australia</strong>n specimens. For this reason, we have no hesitation in<br />
