<strong>Triax</strong> is to be characterised by a distinct, modern,<br />

high-quality graphic profile which is consistent with<br />

the values the company st<strong>and</strong>s for.<br />

This <strong>design</strong> <strong>manual</strong> describes <strong>Triax</strong>’s graphic line,<br />

including the rules for the use of <strong>Triax</strong>’s <strong>design</strong> elements<br />

<strong>and</strong> logo.<br />

It provides an overview of the different elements of<br />

our <strong>design</strong> programme <strong>and</strong> gives you guide lines <strong>and</strong><br />

inspiration for their use. In the <strong>design</strong> <strong>manual</strong> you will<br />

find a number of links to templates to facilitate your<br />

correct use of our <strong>design</strong>.<br />

2.0 Communication strategy<br />

Introduction<br />

Communication does not just happen. It must be<br />

organized, developed, <strong>and</strong> built. The first step in the<br />

process is to define a communications strategy.<br />

A good communications strategy allows <strong>Triax</strong> to exercise<br />

better control over our marketing efforts.<br />

Purpose<br />

The overall objective with the communications strategy<br />

is to support the <strong>Triax</strong> vision <strong>and</strong> mission statements:<br />

Vision: It is our vision to be the preferred<br />

provider<br />

Mission: It is our mission to develop,<br />

manufacture <strong>and</strong> market the<br />

quality solutions that our custo<br />

mers will need<br />

This communications strategy has been elaborated<br />

in order to outline guidelines for external market<br />

communication <strong>and</strong> to be of assistance to sales<br />

managers <strong>and</strong> product managers when planning<br />

marketing activities.<br />

The <strong>Triax</strong> communications strategy is therefore primarily<br />

aimed at <strong>Triax</strong> sales managers, product managers<br />

ad agencies, <strong>and</strong> DTPs.<br />

Division<br />

It must be clear from which <strong>Triax</strong> division – <strong>Triax</strong> Multimedia<br />

or <strong>Triax</strong> Cabinets – marketing materials are<br />

coming. Depending on the type of material this must<br />

be illustrated as follows:<br />

Solutions for reception, distribution <strong>and</strong> storage of<br />

video, audio <strong>and</strong> data<br />

The communications strategy has been elaborated<br />

as a result of the br<strong>and</strong>ing strategy developed <strong>and</strong><br />

implemented in 2007. The purpose of the br<strong>and</strong>ing<br />

project was to:<br />

Develop <strong>and</strong> implement a sharper <strong>and</strong> more clearly<br />

defined <strong>Triax</strong> corporate br<strong>and</strong> strategy based on<br />

<strong>Triax</strong>’ core values. The strategy must be based<br />

on <strong>Triax</strong>’ existing business strategy <strong>and</strong> include a<br />

communications strategy<br />

Develop <strong>and</strong> implement a clear sub br<strong>and</strong>ing strategy<br />

for our product br<strong>and</strong>s: <strong>Triax</strong>, Hirschmann,<br />

Lenson <strong>and</strong> Wolsey<br />

Develop a model/plan/concept for transforming<br />

Hirschmann to the <strong>Triax</strong> br<strong>and</strong><br />

Br<strong>and</strong> structure<br />

All marketing materials must support our overall<br />

br<strong>and</strong> structure.<br />

<strong>Triax</strong> pursues a single br<strong>and</strong> strategy, which means<br />

that all products as a basic rule use the br<strong>and</strong> name<br />

<strong>Triax</strong>.<br />

However, we have the possibility to use other product<br />

br<strong>and</strong> names (tactical product br<strong>and</strong>s) such as<br />

Hirschmann, Lenson <strong>and</strong> Wolsey if necessary in order<br />

to optimize local opportunities <strong>and</strong> needs:<br />

• The Hirschmann br<strong>and</strong> name is used on existing<br />

Hirschmann products <strong>and</strong> in special cases new<br />

products as long as we decide to use the br<strong>and</strong><br />

name (probably 3-5 years).<br />

• The Lenson br<strong>and</strong> name is primarily destined to<br />

function as the alternative channel br<strong>and</strong> in cases<br />

where we would otherwise envisage conflict.<br />

• The Wolsey br<strong>and</strong> name is primarily destined<br />

to function as the alternative low price br<strong>and</strong> in<br />

cases where we need to go lower in price<br />

<strong>and</strong> specs.<br />

Web<br />

The <strong>Triax</strong> homepage must be the platform from where<br />

all marketing materials are derived. Coordination of<br />

online <strong>and</strong> “offline” marketing materials is essential<br />

<strong>and</strong> as <strong>Triax</strong> is an online company, the web is to be

the place from where marketing materials are derived.<br />

Valid<br />

This strategy is valid from 1 May 2008 <strong>and</strong> its guidelines<br />

should be applied to all sales <strong>and</strong> marketing<br />

materials from <strong>Triax</strong> Multimedia <strong>and</strong> <strong>Triax</strong> Cabinets.<br />

Target groups<br />

At <strong>Triax</strong> we distribute products to different target<br />

groups:<br />

BtB: wholesalers <strong>and</strong> installers<br />

BtC: retailers split between<br />

radio/TV shops <strong>and</strong><br />

hypermarkets<br />

<strong>Triax</strong> operate on several different markets <strong>and</strong> the<br />

customer/target group mix differs a lot between the<br />

markets.<br />

Differentiated communication strategy<br />

As different customers have different needs <strong>and</strong> preferences<br />

<strong>and</strong> as rules <strong>and</strong> good practice for communication<br />

is very different on our markets, we follow a<br />

differentiated communications strategy. This means<br />

that we should aim to meet <strong>and</strong> attract our customers<br />

with a local attitude <strong>and</strong> according to the target<br />

group’s dem<strong>and</strong>s.<br />

Our promise, values <strong>and</strong> sales arguments<br />

Promise<br />

Our promise must be printed on all sales <strong>and</strong> marketing<br />

materials:<br />

The promise consists of three words which have all<br />

been selected carefully in order to cover both divisions<br />

in the <strong>Triax</strong> Group: <strong>Triax</strong> Antenna Systems <strong>and</strong><br />

<strong>Triax</strong> Cabinets.<br />

The explanation for choosing these three words are<br />

statement. It should be embedded in all elements of<br />

our sales materials: text, images etc.<br />

We have to be faithful to our values in our marketing<br />

materials <strong>and</strong> we should always have these in mind<br />

when elaborating materials. And, whenever possible,<br />

marketing materials should include elements <strong>and</strong> text<br />

that support these values.<br />

materials must always be <strong>Triax</strong> promise <strong>and</strong> values.<br />

However, sales arguments are an important part of<br />

these materials as well <strong>and</strong> must be selected carefully<br />

in order to address the target group with terms,<br />

that the target group is familiar with. This means, that<br />

there must be a differentiated choice of sales arguments<br />

in our materials dependant on the target group<br />

in question.<br />

Beside, it is important to bear in mind that sales<br />

arguments are rarely technical features but instead<br />

technical features that have been “translated” into<br />

advantages/benefits for the customers/target group.<br />

Tone of voice<br />

So, how do we graphically <strong>and</strong> text-wise <strong>design</strong> <strong>and</strong><br />

elaborate our marketing materials? And which media<br />

are most effective?<br />

AIDA(S)<br />

Whenever marketing materials are elaborated the<br />

communication model: AIDA(S) is useful as a checklist<br />

<strong>and</strong> guideline on an operational level.<br />

The AIDA model describes the basic process by<br />

which people become motivated to act on a purchase<br />

<strong>and</strong> is based on external stimuli from sales representatives.<br />

The motivation to make a purchase depends<br />

on:<br />

A Attention (Awareness)<br />

-attract the attention of the customer/make your product/offer<br />

aware to the customer<br />

I Interest<br />

-raise customer interest by demonstrating features,<br />

advantages, <strong>and</strong> benefits<br />

D Desire<br />

-convince customers that they want <strong>and</strong> desire the<br />

product or service <strong>and</strong> that this will satisfy their needs<br />

-lead customers towards taking action <strong>and</strong>/or purchasing<br />

(S) Satisfaction<br />

-satisfy the customer so they become a repeat customer<br />

<strong>and</strong> give referrals to a product<br />

Text<br />

Basically, all text must take its starting point in <strong>Triax</strong>’<br />

customer focused mission. The reader must get the<br />

impression that this is a company concentrating on<br />

adding value to its customers. That <strong>Triax</strong> delivers<br />

better solutions than its competitors who make us our<br />

customers’ preferred provider. <strong>Triax</strong> is the company<br />

that predicts the future needs of our customers <strong>and</strong> is<br />

on track with how they think.<br />

The tone of voice must be informal, modern <strong>and</strong><br />

always match the target group <strong>and</strong> market. We<br />

should only use words <strong>and</strong> terms that the reader<br />

underst<strong>and</strong>s <strong>and</strong> is familiar with. We want to meet our<br />

customers at eye level.<br />

We must write text that reflects that <strong>Triax</strong> is proud of<br />

its products <strong>and</strong> company but in a way where <strong>Triax</strong>’<br />

reliability is not lost. That means that we should avoid<br />

self-praise, too many superlatives <strong>and</strong> empty phrases.<br />

<strong>Triax</strong> texts must leave an impression of competence,<br />

honesty, openness <strong>and</strong> quality.<br />

Important are short sentences written in an easy,<br />

underst<strong>and</strong>able language <strong>and</strong> with precise expressions.<br />

A modern language that is obliging.<br />

Sales arguments must illustrate our technical competences,<br />

but – at the same time- “be translated” from<br />

being technical features to being customer benefits.<br />

Images/photos<br />

Images are an important part of <strong>Triax</strong> marketing<br />

materials. We must emphasize to include images of<br />

people/users <strong>and</strong> not “just” products.<br />

In some cases, we should use intelligent images that

instead of showing the product, gives the reader<br />

thoughts that e.g. reflect one or more USPs. One<br />

example could be an image reflecting simplicity. This<br />

must often be supported by a headline that catches<br />

the eye <strong>and</strong> in an intelligent way supports the “translated<br />

meaning” of the image.<br />

Design<br />

<strong>Triax</strong> uses a modern <strong>and</strong> flexible visual <strong>design</strong> on<br />

marketing materials <strong>and</strong> we emphasize visual mechanisms<br />

that makes <strong>Triax</strong> easy to recognize (eg. consistency<br />

in use of promise, logo etc).<br />

Less is more! It is important that <strong>Triax</strong> - in it’s writing<br />

- prioritizes short sentences <strong>and</strong> clear messages in a<br />

<strong>design</strong> where white space is important. See <strong>manual</strong><br />

for more details on <strong>design</strong> issues.<br />

Media<br />

It is our opinion that we have to use a mixture of<br />

media that are suitable for both mass marketing as<br />

well as relationship marketing. It is however essential<br />

to carefully select a media mix that most effectively<br />

increase sales in the short as well as long run. Too<br />

much mass marketing might not always give the<br />

best result eventually, even though it reaches a larger<br />

audience <strong>and</strong> even though exposure to the product is<br />

maximized.<br />

Relationship marketing focuses on the individual <strong>and</strong><br />

creates loyal customers as it focuses on keeping <strong>and</strong><br />

improving relationships with current customers. It is<br />

easier <strong>and</strong> requires less efforts to keep current customers<br />

rather than acquiring new ones. The primary<br />

goal of relationship marketing is therefore to build <strong>and</strong><br />

maintain a base of committed customers who are<br />

profitable for <strong>Triax</strong>.<br />

When using time <strong>and</strong> efforts on marketing materials it<br />

is important to measure the effect. This is often very<br />

difficult but still important. <strong>Triax</strong> Marketing welcomes<br />

feedback from sales managers <strong>and</strong> hopes to learn<br />

from this feedback <strong>and</strong> thus improve the outcome of<br />

our work.<br />

In too many cases the market communication is done<br />

accidentally <strong>and</strong> in an ad-hoc manner, <strong>and</strong> more by<br />

habit than by insight. One should therefore try to<br />

measure the effects of the various parts of the mix.<br />

This can be done in a number of ways.<br />

- Counting the number of telephone calls, faxes <strong>and</strong><br />

e-mails received following a particular marketing<br />

effort. If this is the only way impact is checked it<br />

might be a good idea to separate different efforts in<br />

time, otherwise we shall not know which efforts<br />

were effective <strong>and</strong> which were not.<br />

-Counting the number of hits on the web page. This is<br />

easily done through a counter.<br />

-Marking coupons to be sent in. This is the traditional,<br />

pre-web way. If coupons are used then this is still<br />

a good way of measuring effects. Even though the<br />

advertisement may be exactly the same, each dif<br />

ferent medium (magazine, newspaper) should con<br />

tain a unique code enabling you to measure the<br />

effect of each one.<br />

-Asking applicants where they received information,<br />

fill in the application form.


2.0 Communication strategy<br />

Beside from producing marketing materials, <strong>Triax</strong><br />

Marketing are happy to give advice/consult with<br />

1) elaboration of business plans, launch plans, cam<br />

paigns, etc.<br />

2) planning of marketing activities <strong>and</strong> choice of<br />

media<br />

3.0 Logo<br />

<strong>Triax</strong>’ logo is a central basic element in the <strong>design</strong><br />

line.<br />

The logo is the br<strong>and</strong> by which <strong>Triax</strong> identifies itself<br />

towards the surrounding world. Therefore, there are<br />

strict dem<strong>and</strong>s on how the logo may be applied.<br />

The construction of the logo follows a firmly determined<br />

frame which must not be broken. The <strong>design</strong><br />

<strong>manual</strong> allows a number of variations of the basic<br />

form of the logo, but also the variations are subject to<br />

rules in terms of size, colours <strong>and</strong> proportions.<br />

With red drops <strong>and</strong> black letters or only in black on<br />

white or on lightly coloured background .<br />

Letters in the logos are typed in Helvetica Bold.<br />

<strong>Triax</strong> logo should be used also as group logo.<br />

There must be at least 10 mm margin round the logo<br />

where other elements must not be placed.<br />

The TRIAX name in text<br />

In headlines <strong>and</strong> product names the word "<strong>Triax</strong>"<br />

must be written in capital letters to ensure optimal<br />

value of recognition (eg. above). In regular body text it<br />

is written in the normal way: "<strong>Triax</strong>".


4.0 Typography<br />

Font <strong>and</strong> font management<br />

An important basic element is typography which<br />

correctly <strong>and</strong> consequently applied is a good identity<br />

creating tool.<br />

<strong>Triax</strong>'s <strong>design</strong> <strong>manual</strong> allows the use of three fonts:<br />

• Arial for prints <strong>and</strong> office material.<br />

• Max for headlines in printed matters, signboards etc.<br />

• Helvetica Neue for body text.<br />

• Verdana for web.<br />

Maximum readability is obtained by using the typography<br />

optimally.<br />

Use clear headlines <strong>and</strong> well organised body text with<br />

the right proportion between type size (point size) <strong>and</strong><br />

leading (distance between the lines).<br />

It is important that the leading is sufficiently large so<br />

that the text is perceived as lines <strong>and</strong> not as an area<br />

of characters. Use your layout psoftwares autoformat<br />

as indicator.<br />

For short lines, left alignment is to be preferred,<br />

because in that case the space between the words<br />

will be uniform – as opposed to justified alignment. In<br />

order to avoid ’orphans’, the space between the characters<br />

sometimes has to be increased or decreased<br />

without spoiling the overall picture.<br />

6.0 Design elements<br />

Purpose<br />

Design elements are boxes, lines <strong>and</strong> other '"building<br />

elements" which use the same principles. Thereby<br />

a coherent look can be achieved across different<br />

media. Design elements are flexible, <strong>and</strong> they can be<br />

containers for other content.<br />

Red line<br />

Purpose<br />

The red line has three functions. It separates<br />

picture content <strong>and</strong> text content areas. It is a<br />

recognizabe <strong>design</strong> element that creates consistency<br />

across different publications. White text<br />

can be used inside the red line to promote other<br />

business areas.<br />

The white text on the red line can be used to<br />

show diversity <strong>and</strong> variety.<br />

The TMP 5x / 8x Series is an excellent solution<br />

to the dilemma in many st<strong>and</strong>-alone multi switch<br />

installations: The more users/subscribers you<br />

want to supply from one multi switch, the longer<br />

<strong>and</strong> different the cables will be. Using traditional<br />

multi switches this will present subscribers with<br />

very different signal levels, <strong>and</strong> can cause all kind<br />

of problems.<br />

Easy adjustments.<br />

All TMP multi switches feature a unique attenuator for<br />

each polarity, which enables you to secure a uniform<br />

level no matter where the multi switch is placed.<br />

Near or far away from the dish <strong>and</strong> LNB, the same<br />

switch can be used.<br />

One system, many subscribers.<br />

TMP units with 24 or 32 subscriber outputs has an<br />

additional feature to compensate for long, medium <strong>and</strong><br />

short subscriber lines. This is settable in groups of four<br />

output lines using a slide switch for 0, 6 <strong>and</strong> 12 dB<br />

attenuation (long, medium, short).<br />

These features provide you with the best of two worlds:<br />

Small footprint, one unit for many subscribers versus<br />

long <strong>and</strong> short cables <strong>and</strong> different cable losses.<br />

Save the environment.<br />

In addition the TMP Series is equipped with a Switch<br />

Mode Power Supply which gives You minimum Power<br />

consumption, <strong>and</strong> low Power Dissipation.<br />

This secures a long product lifetime, <strong>and</strong> characterizes<br />

Purpose<br />

The <strong>Triax</strong> payoff consists of two elements:<br />

1. A banner visually depicting what areas of business<br />

we are involved in: The distribution <strong>and</strong> storage of<br />

Combined these two elements communicate our<br />

Boxes<br />

Purpose<br />

Grey or outlined boxes can be used to frame product<br />

pictures, text <strong>and</strong> icons.<br />

Use 15 % grey or a radial gradient from white to 15<br />

% grey,<br />

As a general rule of thumb, use a corner radius of 2,5<br />

mm. You may have to alter that number on very small<br />

or very big boxes.<br />

There are three icon backgrounds. The icons may vary in size, but must be quadratic.<br />

7.0 Pictures<br />

Pictures must emphasize the 5 values <strong>Triax</strong> st<strong>and</strong>s for<br />

(see p. 4). If possible use product pictures with products<br />

in context, with people actually using or installing<br />

the products.<br />

Expression<br />

The picture style must express closeness <strong>and</strong> intimacy.<br />

The pictures should never be too prosaic. Use<br />

two or more pictures together to generate an impression<br />

of diversity. It is also important that besides<br />

product pictures, pictures of people <strong>and</strong> evicative<br />

pictures are used.<br />

Image editing<br />

Crop pictures closely to create calmness <strong>and</strong> at the<br />

same time focus on the essential. Corners must be<br />

rounded off with a corner radius of 2,5 mm.<br />

The pictures may be in colour or in black <strong>and</strong> white.<br />

Don't use drop shadows or borders. You may use a<br />

grey border when your background is white.<br />

9 Printed media<br />

The printed media line determines a number of layout<br />

principles. They are given by the colours <strong>and</strong> fonts<br />

prescribed by the <strong>design</strong> <strong>manual</strong> <strong>and</strong> by a number of<br />

rules for paper sizes <strong>and</strong> position of the elements in<br />

the layout. The total production of printed media must<br />

form a family.<br />

Although we produce a lot of different materials we<br />

must try to apply the following general rules to our<br />

range from 87 to 108 MHz.<br />

B<strong>and</strong> II aerials are provided with a light-alloy metal boom made of 18 x 18<br />

mm square tubes. The dipole <strong>and</strong> the elements are made of Ø12 mm tube<br />

provided with strings to damp vibrations <strong>and</strong> to prevent element resonance.<br />

was asked to install a SMATV system in the<br />

apartment complex, Bridge View Apartments.<br />

The complex consists of two buildings<br />

connected with a bridge. It contains a total of 66<br />

apartments <strong>and</strong> with 3 or more outlets in each<br />

apartment, the TV system should serve a total of<br />

227 outlets.<br />

Bridge View Apartments is a luxurious residential<br />

building, <strong>and</strong> of course TV-signals <strong>and</strong> the variety<br />

offered, should reflect high quality. A broad<br />

diversity of tenants was expected <strong>and</strong> so, the TVsystem<br />
