Water-Transport<br />
SON-BEEL IS WATER –WAY<br />
• More than 50 country Boats are plying every day on regular Transport<br />
Service. About 300 families fully depend on income from Boat Services<br />
for six months. Similar number <strong>of</strong> families are engaging in Boat<br />
making factory in a form <strong>of</strong> rural Artisans . Most <strong>of</strong> poor families<br />
traveled by country Boat.<br />
• Inland transport services can be promoted to link up 4 AP with Dist.<br />
Head Quarters.<br />
• Establishment <strong>of</strong> organized boat making Industry will fetch earning<br />
source.<br />
• Cargo Services has promising future as means <strong>of</strong> transportation <strong>of</strong><br />
goods including PDS and other essential commodities.<br />
SON-BEEL IS SOURCE OF DRINKING WATER SUPPLY<br />
• • SON-BEEL touches 9 numbers <strong>of</strong> G.Ps. directly and double <strong>of</strong> the<br />
number along the inlet and towards the outlet.<br />

TRADITIONAL FISHING GROUND<br />
• • SON-BEEL is traditional fishing ground for ages. More than<br />
35,000 families are directly dependent on the Beel for traditional<br />
fishing.<br />
• About 500 families are engaging in Net Making and Fish Marketing<br />
Network.<br />
• Kalibari Fish Market and Fakua Railway Station Markets Kaliganj and<br />
others survive due to Fishing Trade.<br />
• Inland Fishing /Captive Pisciculture has promising scope.<br />
• Dry Fish Manufacturing Industry has lucrative scope.<br />
• Fish Production can be boosted.<br />
• Prawn Cultivation and other nature will add additional source for the<br />

• As human civilization occurs at rive basin, Several Markets were<br />
established in and around SON-BEEL proper and along the inlet and<br />
outlet <strong>of</strong> Son-beel water body.<br />
• Water-Way gives cheapest but the only means <strong>of</strong> transportation <strong>of</strong><br />
goods and commodities.<br />
• Internal Water transport system can boost rural Economy in this<br />
region.<br />
SON-BEEL IS AGRICULTURE LAND<br />
• • SON-BEEL is Rice Bowl <strong>of</strong> South <strong>Assam</strong>.<br />

• More than 40% <strong>of</strong> areas around water body has evergreen forest.<br />
• Son Beel is breeding ground for reptiles and other various aquatic<br />
species.<br />
• Siberian Birds rested for three months a year.<br />
• Presence <strong>of</strong> water-body increase moisture which promotes plant<br />
growth and sustain environment.<br />
• Concept <strong>of</strong> Biosphere reserve will pave ways in promotion <strong>of</strong><br />

SON BEEL IS A SEA<br />
(SUMMER SON-BEEL)<br />
• SON-BEEL is a small sea comprising up to 35 sp. Km in summer that<br />
reduced to 10sq. km in winter.<br />
• To retain the water body upto 20 sq km with suitable structural design<br />
through out the year will enhance its viabilities<br />
