2010-<strong>2011</strong> MOOT TEAMS<br />
We take the Sopinka Cup!<br />
The Western Canada Moot Team brought home the Sopinka<br />
Cup from Ottawa for the first time in our college’s history.<br />
jason Demers, Evan Thompson, kayla Demars-krentz and<br />
Andrew kuzma were the top team at the national Trial<br />
Advocacy Competition. They were coached by Ashley Smith,<br />
a sessional lecturer at the college who works at Macpherson<br />
leslie & Tyerman llp in Saskatoon. At the individual level,<br />
international win<br />
The Mediation Advocacy Moot Team placed in<br />
the top 10 in two categories (Mediator and Client/<br />
Advocate) and received recognition as one <strong>of</strong> the<br />
Outstanding New Programs in Dispute Resolution<br />
in London, England at the International Academy <strong>of</strong><br />
Dispute Resolution’s Tenth Annual International <strong>Law</strong><br />
School Mediation Tournament, March 25-26, <strong>2011</strong>.<br />
The whole team won an award for Outstanding<br />
New International Mediation Program, given to<br />
those selected as the best new programs at the<br />
competition. Teams compete in groups <strong>of</strong> three<br />
students, so the U <strong>of</strong> S was represented by two<br />
teams. Team members Gillian Gough, John Sanche<br />
and Sabina Arulampalam were one <strong>of</strong> 10 teams to<br />
win Overall Outstanding Advocate/Client Team, and<br />
Arulampalam won one <strong>of</strong> 10 Overall Outstanding<br />
Individual Mediator awards. A total <strong>of</strong> 23 law<br />
schools from around the world were represented by<br />
34 teams for the competition.<br />
Evan Thompson won best cross-examination and best overall<br />
advocate. To reach the national competition in Ottawa, the team<br />
placed first at the Macintyre Cup, february 12-13, in Edmonton.<br />

our moot team posed with three justices from the Supreme Court <strong>of</strong> Canada (from left to<br />
