More Student Successes<br />

Nicole Hamm is one <strong>of</strong> only four university students from across the province selected to the<br />

<strong>Saskatchewan</strong> Legislative Internship Program in <strong>2011</strong>. Her internship started in January <strong>2011</strong><br />

and ends in July <strong>2011</strong>.<br />

In August 2010, law student Alicia Myroon received the Edward K. Rowan-Legg Award at the<br />

Canadian Bar Association (CBA) Canadian Legal Conference, for her contributions to the CBA<br />

as a student member <strong>of</strong> the organization.<br />

Thomas Posyniak was the winner <strong>of</strong> the first annual Constitutional Affairs Essay Contest,<br />

which was launched in spring 2010 by the Institute for Research on Public Policy’s Policy<br />

Options magazine. Posyniak’s essay, “The National Dimension <strong>of</strong> Climate Change: A<br />

Constitutional Foundation for a National Greenhouse Gas Reduction Policy,” was among<br />

27entries received from 11 universities across Canada.<br />

New students entering Graduate Studies at the college were<br />

welcomed with a barbecue on September 14, 2010.<br />

A group <strong>of</strong> 33 <strong>College</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Law</strong> students laced up their sneakers<br />

to Run for the Cure on October 3, 2010. In so doing, they<br />

raised $7,800 and won the school team challenge, handed<br />

out to the school team with the highest fundraising total in<br />

Saskatoon. Here, looking fabulous in pink, are several <strong>of</strong> the<br />

male participants on the team.<br />

Nkasi Adams is in the second year <strong>of</strong> her LLM program. She is writing her thesis on issues<br />

related to Forest Conservation and Indigenous Rights. Earlier this year, she was invited to<br />

participate in a United Nations Workshop on the Rights <strong>of</strong> Forest Peoples which was held at<br />

the UN Headquarters in New York, NY.<br />

Adryan Toth has recently completed the first year <strong>of</strong> his LLM program, and presented some<br />

<strong>of</strong> his work at the Cambridge Doctoral Symposium on Legal Theory in Practice at Cambridge<br />

<strong>University</strong> in Cambridge, UK. He also recently presented his work at the McMaster <strong>University</strong><br />

Philosophy <strong>of</strong> <strong>Law</strong> Conference in Hamilton, ON.<br />

Led by Pr<strong>of</strong>essor John Kleefeld, first-year students spent a<br />

week in January <strong>2011</strong> focused entirely on the required Dispute<br />

Resolution Program. Through short instructional modules,<br />

demonstrations, simulations, role play exercises and 10<br />

written assignments, the students experienced an intensive<br />

introduction to client-centred advocacy skills, including<br />

interviewing, negotiation, mediation and pr<strong>of</strong>essional ethics.<br />

First-year students took turns playing the roles <strong>of</strong> client and<br />

lawyer during the mandatory one-week Dispute Resolution<br />

Program in January <strong>2011</strong>.<br />
