INT. THE BROWN'S TOWNHOUSE. MORNING. A FEW WEEKS LATER.<br />

Delia and Doctor Brown miserably eat their breakfast. We<br />

notice that Doctor Brown has the beginnings of a beard.<br />

Near<strong>by</strong> a GREY-HAIRED MAID finishes cleaning some dishes.<br />

NARRATOR (V.O.)<br />

As expected, Doctor Brown wasted no time going<br />

back to work. What wasn't expected, was what<br />

happened once he got there.<br />

INT. A PATIENT'S ROOM AT BROOKLYN SCIENCE. DAY.<br />

Andy enters. Mr. Saddlebrook lies in the bed, a wasted,<br />

sickly version of his former self.<br />

MR. SADDLEBROOK<br />

Morning, Doc.<br />

DOCTOR BROWN<br />

Ready for the big day, Mr. Saddlebrook?<br />

MR. SADDLEBROOK<br />

I hope so... Listen, Doc. I heard about the<br />

tragedy you suffered. And I'm sorry.<br />

A beat. Doctor Brown's eyes well-up. He looks at Mr.<br />

Saddlebrook for what seems like the first time.<br />

DOCTOR BROWN<br />

If you could be anywhere in the world right<br />

now, where would it be?<br />

MR. SADDLEBROOK<br />

Hershey, Pennsylvania. It's where I grew up.<br />

I've kept my parents' farm there.<br />

DOCTOR BROWN<br />

Go there. Now. Today.<br />

But I --<br />

MR. SADDLEBROOK<br />

DOCTOR BROWN<br />

I can't live your life. At best I can prolong<br />

it <strong>by</strong> eight months, maybe a year. Most of that<br />

time you'll spend barely coherent and recovering<br />

from surgery. And all so this hospital can brag<br />

about its statistics with terminal illnesses.<br />

But those statistics don't measure quality of<br />

life, and if you have even the slightest hope of<br />

preserving your own, you'll get out of this bed<br />

and leave as fast as your legs will carry you.<br />
