reSidential education
Social responsibility is Student Housing’s
educational priority. Students will learn academic
success skills, good decision-making about drug
and alcohol use, self-advocacy, communication
through conflict, living in a diverse community,
and involvement and connection to KU.
By living in a residence or scholarship hall,
Jayhawks will demonstrate personal responsibility
for themselves, contribute to their community and
connect to the ever-changing global community.
academic SucceSS
On-campus residents get better grades than
students in other living environments. More
than 7 percent of on-campus residents earned
a 4.0 grade-point average during the last three
years. On-campus students also posted an overall
grade-point average of 3.09 compared to 2.89
for off-campus students. That’s in part because of
trained staff, study groups, and upperclass mentors.
academic retention
Better grades mean better retention. On-campus
housing residents progress toward graduation at
a 10 percent higher rate than off-campus students.
Graduating in four years is a KU standard
of excellence.

We take the extra step to help you reach goals:
• Internet is included in your housing rate.
Wireless is available throughout the hall and
wired Internet is also available in individual
rooms. You may connect four devices at a
speed of 10 megabits per second, or upgrade
your speed and number of devices for

• Study lounges are in every hall and classrooms
are featured in GSP and Templin residence halls.
Writing Center and other tutoring services are
available where you live. KU’s new residence
halls opening in August 2015 will feature
academic spaces.
• Print stations are provided in each hall.
• Learning communities allow students to live and
learn from others with the same academic interests.

• Resident Assistants will develop an academic
success plan with each resident. They’ll also set
up academic “check-ins” throughout the
semester to help residents reach their goals.
