THE MARVELLOUS FLIGHT<br />

Just by hearing <strong>the</strong> instructions of<br />

Ashtavakra, King Janaka's spiritual illumination<br />

was instantaneous. What he attained bubbled<br />

out of his mouth as a song of illumination,<br />

repeatedly punctuated by pregnant<br />

exclamations of ""Oh!'' (Ahmo). What followed<br />

was all an expression by Janaka (supplemented<br />

amply by Ashtavakra) of <strong>the</strong> inexpressible, a<br />

description of <strong>the</strong> indescribable state of an<br />

enlightened Buddha as a Jivanmukta remaining<br />

established in <strong>the</strong> natural state of <strong>the</strong> Self. In<br />

<strong>the</strong> Indian T.V. and in foreign countries too,<br />

sometimes <strong>the</strong>re is a programme called<br />

Jugalbandi where two musical maestros of<br />

different systems meet on a common platform<br />

and sing <strong>the</strong> same Raga in <strong>the</strong>ir respective<br />

traditions. In exactly similar way, both<br />

Ashtavakra and Janaka speak alternately in<br />

identical terms supplementing each o<strong>the</strong>r, <strong>the</strong><br />

former from his long established state of
